I'll nominated this, Post Elvis, Pre Beatles era from 1963 This is one of my mom's favorite songs omg I never thought I'd see it on pulse! She was a literal child when it came out so maybe that explains why she likes it so much

It felt strange seeing βLaffy Taffyβ and βCrank Thatβ hitting #1. βLaffy Taffyβ still felt like a local/regional hit.

Expand your horizons, there's been horrible songs hitting #1 on the Hot 100 since the very early days.

Laffy Taffy I think "You Sexy Thing" hit #1. If it did then that one as well It only hit #3 OK well then "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi is the worst #1. But thats just ones i know of. Im sure theres some songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s that would qualify

Someone Like You is the worst.
Somebody That I Used To Know, Shape Of You, Perfect, Hello, Shallow and Someone You Loved are close.
The 2000s decade was so much better in terms of not having that many "slow/generic" pop songs going #1.

I'd be surprised if you heard anything by most of them tbh so what even do you know

I'll nominated this, Post Elvis, Pre Beatles era from 1963 Billboard's #1 single of 1963! LOL! Yes, just before the Beatles, this is what the kids were listening to.

If we are talking about slow songs in particular, Ebony and Ivory is horrendous.
