The prayers calling for "Biker Chick" to be out were unanswered because you're all godless heathens who tanked Jo Dee's inspirational anthem about the Lord! "That's God" is officially the first country radio single to be eliminated from the rankdown, rounding out our bottom 5. Unfortunately this makes me the first to lose a Top 10 placement (in my own rankdown!), though many of you can rejoice in losing their #27 another low song on your lists. I'm not totally alone in my loss as two additional Top 20s are lost here as well.
Someone please tell me one good thing about Biker Chick other than Jo Dee's name on it...
Idk... it's just a fun song. I like the guitar and the melody. I think it's a great song for Jo Dee's voice too. I like the 'edgy' sound it has and I think it suits her well stylistically.
The "biker chick chick" part in the chorus is annoying though, I will give you that. But the rest of the song offsets it enough for me to enjoy it.

I swear if you ranked this above "Heads Carolina, Tails California", "Stand Beside Me", "Bye Bye", "Bring on the Rain" or the rest of Jo Dee's incredible classics...
Ah I remember when I used that gif in a rankdown! Good times!
Legit tho I like the lyrics of "That's God" but musically I don't find it very interesting. It's good, just not great. Glad it's out before "Biker Chick"

But I know you did and I still love ya
"Bring On The Rain" is so not incredible... I actually find it to be one of her most overrated songs. It's basic af. I don't dislike it, but have also never understood the mass amount of love it gets.
I will say though.. one of the songs you listed made it higher than "Biker Chick" on my list, and one of them is just one spot lower than "Biker Chick." ... I promise some of Jo Dee's incredible classics did very well on my list . I love Jo Dee. Really, I only truly dislike my bottom 3.

I honestly LOVE Biker Chick. It was a terrible single choice but it is such a random song and the topic will absolutely never be repeated in any other artist's catalog. That originality is enough to beat trash like "That's God". I may be the highest ranking for Biker Chick, because I think it is AMAZING.

- First my second least favourite songs got eliminated - yey :) Noel is still way better than Unbreakable but it's a little boring - I just don't see myself listening to this song again. - That's God is beautiful song. I like the melody, lyrics and instrumentation (esspecially when there is only piano) that goes well with her voice. - Will you love me is a nice song. Nothing outstanding but good song overall.
And all that hate towards Biker Chick - I agree that it's time to be eliminated but I don't think it's bad song at all.
Oh look, here I was rooting for Biker Chick to go and I finally lose my #32. That's God is so boring to me, that I forgot it existed. Doesn't help that it is about a topic I care nothing about....

No one took my bait.
The surprise is... that LBTrocks was not the only one who loved "Biker Chick" and kept it out of the bottom 5! He loses his first Top 10 here, but I experience a back-to-back Top 10 loss as well, and two others see a Top 15 placement run out of gas. On the flipside, five of y'all can say goodbye to your last place rank, the most of any song in the rankdown ("Unbreakable" had four). This leaves only tim and BlueShades874 with their #32s still in!
austin what was all this talk about you being the highest ranking for "Biker Chick" lol? ;)
I knew I would be the highest ranker of this.... but yes, .indulgecountry ranking this in his top 10 is a rather unexpected twist.
I looooove "Biker Chick." The production is fantastic (love all the fiddle -- that fiddle riff at the beginning & around 1:13 where it happens again -- and guitar fills) and I love the way she sings the song. It's a really random and outlandish premise for a song, but it's a lot of fun and she puts a lot of personality into it like only she can! The way she wails the lines "big ole bike" and "long pipes," and her phrasing on "long-haired dude" are just so enjoyable to me. Looooove the melody of the pre-chorus a lot, too, and even the "biker chick-chick" is catchy af.
It shouldn't have been a single (especially as the follow-up to the Delicious Surprise era where she lost serious momentum at radio after the lead single) because it was too "out there" topically and it's got a polarizing nature to it musically to where I can understand why many don't care for it... but I basically love literally everything about it, lol.

Great it's out!
I always love hearing .indulgecountry talk about his love for this song (and now LBTrocks & codyj100) and wish I could get into it but I just can't. I do wonder if maybe it's just because I blame the song for ending her radio career? I feel like if they had put "I'm Done" out instead of "Biker Chick" it would've got her another hit.
Then again right around that time Curb just stopped getting hits from anybody except one artist at a time so probably not.

I really don't hate "Biker Chick" but I don't like it either. It was easily #32 for me though because it just isn't a good song imo and she has so many strong songs.
The two Christmas songs would probably do better in a Christmas themed rankdown but maybe not. I like them both well enough but neither truly stick out to me.
Also the live track if it was a studio version it would have been higher. It is a good song and she sounds incredible on it but as I like just about everything a lot I couldn't justify a live track being higher than the studio tracks that I like a lot.

I actually dislike this song for the same reasons you like it. (Surprise, surprise!) I don't mind the "Biker Chick Chick, Biker Chick Chick, Wooo!". What gets to me is the way she sings "Bike", "Pipes", and "Dude". Especially the way she sings "Dude". To me it takes away from the meaning of the song, because she doesn't sound into him at that point.
This rankdown is about to get SERIOUS though. I'm scared!

I think "Delicious Surprise" killed her comeback momentum & put her on life support, and then "Biker Chick" caused her to flatline.
That said, I think "I'm Done" is her weakest 'kiss-off' song she's probably ever done. It just feels so... cheap compared the others. I like it for what it is, but not compared to all of her superior songs in the same vein. I don't think believe it would've been much of a hit either way... I do think the third/fourth singles from Delicious Surprise peaked much lower than they should have thanks to her losing momentum after the title track went to radio. Both "It's Too Late to Worry" and "Not Going Down" sounded like easy Top 20 hits to me.

I agree, especially about "Too Late To Worry". Had it been really second like I think it should've been, I think it could've been a possible number one.

My thoughts exactly. It should've been a big hit for her. </3

"Here," Jo Dee Messina's most recent recording, is the next to go. Released alongside the announcement of her cancer diagnosis, the already poignant song is made all the more impactful. Musically it is very spare and quite different than anything else she's released, but her powerful-as-ever vocals are front-and-center on this track, though its newness and uniqueness didn't help it go the distance with a strong catalog like Jo Dee's. It made it the furthest out of any of the songs in this rankdown that weren't official country radio releases though, thanks in part to a Top 10 ranking and a handful of Top 20s. BlueShades874 loses their #32 on this reveal though, meaning only tim is still waiting for his last place song to be eliminated.
"Here" wasn't bad upon first listen, but the repeated 'here' in the chorus is really bothersome to me. It's not her vocals, it's the arrangement of the actual song. The word 'here' feels so out of place and it really sticks out like a sore thumb in a negative way. Totally prevents me from enjoying the song. The song is very 'flat' especially in the vocal arrangement. It feels like a song I'm close to enjoying, but it just isn't happening.
