So either LWYMMD holds the #1 for a fourth week, (Albeit it the weakest #1 in a while) BY claims #1 for a week or two, 1-800, leaps over both for #1, or rockstar debuts at #1 next week. Yeah, that's my predictions for whoever takes the #1 next week. It's going to be a pretty exciting next few weeks for the #1 spot. |

I thought Cardi B was a lock for #1 but the fact that it significantly lost points this week... 1-800 might be the next one instead. It wasn't a lock for this week at all, no one predicted Cardi to go #1. But it is 100% going #1 next week, already predicted. It gained so much streams this new tracking week. |

Points Look What You Made Me Do 42,500 (-30.9%) Bodak Yellow 35,800 (-10.6%) 1-800-273-8255 32,700 (+4.3%) Too Good At Goodbyes 28,900 (NEW) My goodness. The top 5* is pretty weak. Stay peaked at #7 but had weeks above 32k. This really gives me hope for "1-800-273-8255". I didn't think Taylor would be shedding this many points so soon. I'm also surprised to see Cardi losing that many points already as well. I guess sales and streaming are really tanking for "Look What You Made Me Do", so only radio is keeping that song up, at this point. Go Logic! "1-800-273-8255" is also increasing pretty fast on radio (and finally added to HAC), where "Bodak Yellow" appears to be just about peaking now. On an unrelated note, I wonder where "What Lovers Do" is on the Hot 100 this week. Last week it jumped 46 spots to #27, but I feel like if it were top 20 this week, the article would have mentioned it, like they did with other movement in the top 20. My guess is that it's #21 or #22 this week.

EDIT: Okay, so now it was September 30th, but now it's not available, and it's directed back to the September 23rd date instead. In other words, it was updated but now it isn't.

Of course nobody is going to call the Beatles a boy band because "boy band" is a term used for mainly fluffy no-substance pop artists. But we like to conveniently forget that the fandom of the Beatles was pretty well exactly like the heights of the Backstreet Boys and One Direction. Their audiences were mainly teenage girls screaming at the tops of their lungs at concerts. The pandemonium of the Beatles was recreated again with the Backstreet Boys, N Sync and then again with One Direction and (to a slightly lesser degree) with other "boy bands" like Hanson and other teenager-focused all-male group. What the Beatles had that modern-day boy bands didn't have was the flexibility to do things with music that hadn't been done before. So they were able to win over music 'purists' eventually. If a boy band today were to attempt something like that, it would be death to their careers. Nobody would look at a member of One Direction with any sort of credibility the way the Beatles had, either as a group or solo. Even the mere mention of Harry Styles in the rock forum was a stain on that part of the board. There will never be another Beatles again because (well, other than the Beatles having the advantage of being among the first to shape the landscape of popular music) we won't allow another Beatles to be made. The audience the Beatles had coupled with the type of influencers that gave them their reputation and credibility could never align again because popularity and credibility have become so distanced.I don't believe that. Popular artists like Adele, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, etc have plenty of credibility. It's also an irony because you refer to boy bands as "no-substance pop artists," which implies pop(ular) music isn't credible. The Beatles were inherently different because from the start they were an actual band that played instruments and wrote a lot of (and eventually, all of) their songs. |
