Oh hell no. This is a mess already. Bye gravey...bye
ETA: just noticed all the #33's too. Billy and Disco I'm disappointed. It's just that all the other songs are so good that something would have to be placed lower. I do own both the import 12" and CD singles for "Horny '98." I'll need to see your #34 and #35 before I validate this comment =p

1 more before I head to work. #33 Paul Van Dyk - We Are AliveBackground Information: This song is actually a remix of Swedish singer Jennifer Brown’s “Alive.” It was released as the final single from Paul’s critically acclaimed album Out There And Back. The vocal stretch is particularly bad and it is really noticeable on the main album version and radio edit (the version for this rankdown). The busier production in the club mix and the Breakbeat mixes hides it a little better. The Breakbeat version was very popular in the San Francisco and Miami areas where Trancey Breakbeat tracks were in vogue at the time. I am not sad about any of the eliminations, so far, but I hope my #35 goes soon.

I own several of those CDs. The sequencing of the tracks was great. I loved how all of the songs were unmixed and were nearly always the remix or version that was being played on the radio. I liked or loved nearly every song they chose for those. It was nice that some hard to find radio edits that only got released on imports, promos, or vinyl were on them.

Let's do some more! #32 Vengaboys - Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!Background Information: This was the Dutch group’s 4th proper international single and 3rd one in the U.S. It was released as the followup to “We Like To Party!” which was a huge international hit. The song contains an interpolation of ABBA’s “Lay All Your Love On Me” in the first verse and they were credited as writers. It performed very poorly in the U.S. due to minimal promotion. It was their final single to be released in the U.S. with any type of promotion. “Kiss (When The Sun Don’t Shine)” from their 2nd album got a vinyl release here but that was it. "Shalalala", "Uncle John From Jamaica", "Cheekah Bow Bow" and "Forever AS One" were released after that internationally before the group disbanded. This peaked at #83 on the Hot 100. I did used to like this back in the day, enough to actually buy the CD single but for me the Vengaboys were just a phase that I quickly got over.

#31 ATB feat. The Wild Strawberries - Let U GoBackground Information: This was originally recorded by Canadian Rock group The Wild Strawberries as “Wrong To Let You Go.” So this is basically a remix of that song. ATB first produced one version on his Two Worlds album in 2000. This was in line with the sound he had been doing at that particular time. ATB did a brand new remix in 2001 with a different production. Additional lyrics were written including a second verse and the signature instrumental hook was created. This new mix appeared on his 2001 album Dedicated and it was a single. It was one of his biggest hits in Europe. ATB would collaborate with Wild Strawberries singer Roberta Harrison on additional songs after that. In 2005, for his greatest hits album, he produced a new version which featured male vocals replacing Roberta’s vocals by Jan Löchel. This time it was a downtempo production. A single mix was uptempo which used the signature hook from the 2001 version. I did used to like this back in the day, enough to actually buy the CD single but for me the Vengaboys were just a phase that I quickly got over. I bought all 3 of the singles that were issued in the U.S. ("Up and Down", "We Like To Party!", and BBBB) and a couple of the singles from the 2nd album as imports (that Airscape remix of "Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine)" is epic). I still like their singles and selected album tracks. They were good cheeky fun.

#30 Dee Dee - ForeverBackground Information: This was the debut single from the Belgian Trance Pop act released in 2001. Two of the main people behind this project had worked on Absolom (of “Stars” fame) and Ian Van Dahl. This was easily their biggest and most well-known hit. It was licensed by Robbins Entertainment in the U.S. It peaked at #12 in the UK. It was also recorded in French as "Pour Toujours". Their followup "The One" did well in Europe. #29 In-Grid - You Promised Me (Tu Es Foutu)Background Information: This was the debit single from the Italian singer in 2002. It was originally titled "Tu Es Foutu". The original version was sung entirely in French. The English version was more famous throughout the world. It went on to peak at #6 on the Billboard Dance Club Play chart. It had remixes by Benny Benassi (in the same vein as his hit "Satisfaction") and the Harlem Hustlers. #28 Chicane feat. Bryan Adams - Don't Give UpBackground Information: This was a collaboration between the British producer Chicane and Canadian singer Bryan Adams in 1999.. Bryan had asked Chicane to remix his single "Cloud Number 9" which peaked at #6 in the UK. This song was originally an instrumental and then Bryan was presented with it and wrote the melody and lyrics for the song. Bryan's vocals were heavily processed and manipulated so it wasn't super obvious it was him, but Bryan's vocals are so distinctive that one really could tell. The song was released without Bryan's name on it initially as a white label. It eventually took off in the UK and peaked at #1. It peaked at #3 in the U.S. on the Billboard Dance Club Play chart in 2000 with remixes from Johnny Vicious, Michael T. Diamond, Peter Rauhofer, and Tomski. It was re-released in 2004 with remixes by Alex Gold and Agnelli & Nelson. #27 The Tamperer feat. Maya - Feel ItBackground Information: This was the debut single from the Italian production act. The instrumental is based on The Jacksons classic “Can You Feel It”. The vocals are from Urban Discharge’s underground hit “Wanna Drop A House (On That Bitch).” The vocals are actually by Heather Leigh West however they were credited to Maya Days (who can sing too but for whatever reason they had her miming to HLW’s vocals). Only some of the vocals from that original song were used. Out of context, the “What’s she gonna look like with a chimney on her?” lyrics in the hook don’t make sense but when you consider what the original song was about and what it references, it does (the lyrics are referencing Dorothy’s house from The Wizard Of Oz falling on the witch). The song was huge all over Europe and in the clubs in the U.S. Their followup singles heavily sampled from Madonna’s “Material Girl” and ABBA’s “Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (A Man After Midnight)”. Heather re-recorded it and released it under her own name a few years back. She also re-did it with DJ Mark DeMarko. Last one for tonight. #26 Tiesto & BT - Love Comes AgainBackground Information: This was released as a single from the Dutch DJ/producer/remixer's Just Be album in 2004 featuring vocals by producer BT (Brian Transeau). Tiesto had worked on a track for BT’s album so BT returned the favor by doing a track for Tiesto’s. This got a fair amount of airplay on the Dance radio stations in the U.S. and it was a top 10 hit in Europe. The only songs I truly thought were not in the same league as the rest were my #'s 34 and 35.
