Hey guys! Since my Kidz Bop rankdown got...little interest, I thought I'd try again with something a bit less controversial -- a genre that feels fairly well liked amongst most of the rock posters, myself included. Now I should say that I use the term alt metal VERY loosely, and there may be songs on here you disagree with fitting the genre label I've applied to them. However, it's a broad term in itself, and I wanted to create a wide array of different styles and eras of this movement plus a blend of well known and obscure rather then just having it be 20-30 nu metal songs. All songs on here are great alt metal songs handpicked by me that I hope you enjoy c: I'll be revealing clues to the songs in two or three groups, starting with ten clues and revealing the next group after all the songs in the previous group are guessed. I'm looking at having about 25 songs on this rankdown, but it may be as low as 20 or as high as 30 as I'm still finalizing the list. Anyways once all the songs get revealed, you should know the drill by now. DM me the list of songs ordered from 1-25 (or however many songs I end up including) with 1 being your favorite and 25 being your least favorite, then I'll total up each person's scores and post the results. I don't plan on doing deviation, but if someone else wants to do that then be my guest! I'll announce a deadline once all the songs are revealed. Clues: 1. The second longest song off this band's debut record, it's still just over 4 minutes. 2. Does this band still make music this good? Oh no. 3. Green Baron said this is one of his favorite songs, but he may be a little too young to understand it. 4. A one hit wonder, but this isn't their big hit. Did okay on alt but no one remembers this song, besides maybe Shawn Mendes? 5. A tragically appropriate song for 2017. 6. At the beginning of this song it mentions both the name of the album and the song, then addresses it to the listener. 7. The closing track off this band's 1994 album, a fake fade-out magnifies this song's length. 8. The only real commercial hit for this recently reunited post hardcore band. 9. Something eventually broke this band's lead singer. 10. Despite this song's unusual structure, it still performed okay when it was released as the second single from this band's third album. The same cannot be said for this band's most recent second single. Revealed songs: 1. System of a Down: Peephole 2. Bring Me the Horizon: And the Snakes Start to Sing 3. Faith No More: Midlife Crisis 4. Orgy: Stitches 5. Thrice: Hurricane 6. Queens of the Stone Age: A Song for the Deaf 7. Failure: Small Crimes 8. At the Drive In: One Armed Scissor 9. Soundgarden: Blow Up the Outside World 10. Slipknot: Vermillion 11. Deftones: Cherry Waves 12. Nine Inch Nails: March of the Pigs 13. Rammstein: Sonne 14. Primus: Laquer Head 15. Marilyn Manson: The Beautiful People 16. Stabbing Westwards: Save Yourself 17. Islander: New Wave 18. Hurt: Talking to God 19. 30 Seconds to Mars: Edge of the Earth 20. Korn: Falling Away From Me Spotify playlist:

5. A tragically appropriate song for 2017. If you are thinking about Alternative charts, could the song "Failure" be the answer?

Nope, although "Failure" is actually pretty close to the answer for one of the other songs! Is there gonna be any DED song in this list? Haha nope, I decided to resist that temptation

could this be "Bat Country"? It was kind of all over the place mucially. tho I loved it.
I'm thinking because "God Damn" sucked and barely scraped the Active Top 10?

^ If it IS Avenged Sevenfold, then it would be "Beast and the Harlot", not "Bat Country", as "Bat Country' was the first single...but "Beast and the Harlot" did not perform all that well at all. In fact, its peak was (much) lower than "God Damn"...so I don't think that's the song.

Alright, added some additional clues. Hopefully it should be easier now: Clues: 1. The second longest song off this band's debut record, it's still just over 4 minutes. By one of the definitive alt metal bands of the early 2000s, who have recently reunited. They have one of the most viewed rock songs on YouTube, though it's not this one.2. Does this band still make music this good? Oh no. Off this metalcore band's critically acclaimed fourth release, who Daryl also pulled a different song from for his rankdown. I nominated this particular song for a rock tournament a while back.3. Green Baron said this is one of his favorite songs, but he may be a little too young to understand it. One of the oldest songs in this rankdown, by a band who is considered to be one of the pioneers of this genre. The theme isn't inherently inappropriate, just "grown up." 4. A one hit wonder, but this isn't their big hit. Did okay on alt but no one remembers this song, besides maybe Shawn Mendes? This band's name however, is quite "inappropriate." Their one hit was a cover.5. A tragically appropriate song for 2017. Also off a critically acclaimed album that Daryl pulled a song from for his rankdown. I've posted multiple times on this song's thread about how much I love it, and it's my likely #1 for the 2017 active rankdown.6. At the beginning of this song it mentions both the name of the album and the song, then addresses it to the listener. ALSO from a critically acclaimed album that Daryl pulled a separate song from. This song and the song Daryl chose are both fan favorite deep cuts, and both are over six minutes.7. The closing track off this band's 1994 album, a fake fade-out magnifies this song's length. From an influential 90s band that never achieved much commercial success but has a cult following. The fact that these guys never broke out is really a small crime.8. The only real commercial hit for this recently reunited post hardcore band. Despite the fact that these guys only really have this one hit, they have a fairly large following and are considered extremely influential. This song was on rockband 3.9. Something eventually broke this band's lead singer. Aka, the singer tragically died this year. Calling these guys alt metal may be a slight stretch, but I'm counting them.10. Despite this song's unusual structure, it still performed okay when it was released as the second single from this band's third album. The same cannot be said for this band's most recent second single. This song came out in 2004, whereas the flop song I'm referring to came out ten years later. The frontman of this band has a song charting on active right now, though it's by a different band of his

#10 is Slipknot's "Vermilion".

One Armed Scissor... yeah this is a LOOSE definition of Alt-metal Meh, can't say I didn't warn you. They are in a different scene but at least in theory, OAS feels sonically pretty close to an alt metal song, and plus would you rather rank that or 20 DED songs? #4 has to be Orgy so I'm assuming they have a song called Stitches? Oh, of course. "Their one hit was a cover" and "Shawn Mendes" should have been a dead giveaway for me. I suck at guessing hints. (I would have chosen "Fiction (Dreams in Digital)", but that's neither here nor there. ) You guys got it! And I like Fiction as well, but I like Stitches a bit better and I also thought it fit the theme better as well. 1. Water? (If not that, Peephole?) 7. Small Crimes 9. One Step Closer? It's Peephole, but Water is actually a really good guess as it fits all the criteria as well. Small Crimes is correct too, but One Step Closer isn't (though that's a good guess). 2. Bring Me the Horizon - "And the Snakes Start to Sing" 5. Thrice - "Hurricane" 7. Failure - "Small Crimes" Yup x3! Only got two left until I reveal a new batch of songs and clues -- if no one can get them I'll set out an extra clue for both, but you guys should be able to.
