Look What You Made Me Do will be out of the Top 20 tomorrow, do I think Taylor is threatened by this? Of course not, I'm actually under the belief the label pulled the song from radio to make way for Ready for It which was officially released to radio today. That song seems to have a very positive audience reception so far, I think it will be able to become an airplay juggernaut, hell even the video alone could push it back into the Top 5 after it's released this Thursday, Taylor may be on her way to another #1. Overall I think Look What You Made Me Do had a respectful run, it was merely meant as a buzz-single, to set the mood for the era, I don't think her or her label ever intended for it to be a huge smash hit akin to Shake It Off.
While on the topic of Taylor, does anyone have an early prediction of where Glorious will debut? I believe it's selling less than Ready for It did, so I don't expect a Top 5 debut, I'm currently guessing #7.

So Shake It Off was too a "buzz single" to set the mood for the era, or what was arguably one of her biggest hits.
Had that been the case here, would 'Look What You Made Me Do' be called a "buzz single" or if the other singles don't perform, perhaps a "buzz-kill" single?

Yeah, "Look What You Made Me Do" was certainly not a buzz single.

Do you really think the label thought Look What You Made Me Do would be a huge smash? It's definitely not commercial, well, not as commercial as anything from 1989. And obviously they knew beforehand that the song would be incredibly controversial. If they intended the song to burn up' radio, then releasing that song as the lead was probably not the best idea. It only spent 3 weeks at #1 because of Taylor's name, that's why I believe it was released as the lead to get people talking about Taylor again. Of course this is likely all bulls**t, but I'm trying to make some of defense for Taylor and the song.

If this song spent 10 weeks at #1 rather than 3, we might be using terms other than just a "buzz single" You said the label was setting the mood for the era. What mood do you think they were going for? Sample lyrics: "I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now." "Why?" (Look what you just made me do) "Oh, 'cause she's dead!" (Oh!) The song is different for sure but... Will the mood they are after be somber, like the song suggests? Probably not. Speaking somber, what it did end up doing was bringing an end to the slow lazy summer of "Despacito'

Ok I've stated before that Unforgettable is a really bad song but I actually feel like we need to mention that its longevity in the top 10 is really freaking impressive. I think it was at like number 9 two months ago and despite not making gains once since then (it's gone up but not gained in performance) it's still at number 9.

The song is different for sure but... I'm assuming they wanted to showcase the "new" Taylor, with a very edgy and disjointed song, or as edgy as Taylor will get without cursing. The song is basically saying "hey, I'm not little miss goody two-shoes Taylor, I'm now bad girl dangerous woman Taylor," and that personality is suppose to carry throughout the era. The song is completely refuted by Gorgeous btw, so Taylor is effectively a hypocrite.

I think her label wanted LWYMMD to be a huge single but the GP did NOT like it, the terrible callouts scores proved it. So they're pushing RFI now as the second official single for longevity. Glorious will probably debut inside the top 15, and possibly #10 at most.

Of course not, but making a song claiming you are an ultimate bad ass then releasing a song after talking about how gorgeous your lover is, it's a bit jarring. At least attempt to stick with a personality for a while, I feel like Reputation is not gonna be very cohesive. With it's current three songs it's all over the place.

At least attempt to stick with a personality for a while, I feel like Reputation is not gonna be very cohesive. With it's current three songs it's all over the place. I don't see those two concepts being as contradictory as you do (how are being confident in yourself and also about your lover opposing ideas?). I find singers who sing about independence and then release a song essentially about being co-dependent on a lover as being more directly contradictory. But still, I know as humans we are all contradictory and have moments where we feel empowered, and moments where we feel lost.

It's a nice song actually. One of the best inside the top 10. Well deserved. I'd argue. Most people that I know find it really annoying; I can't really imagine else than simple, white teen girls listening to it but hey - I'm most likely wrong and that's my opinion. But it doesn't change the fact that I wholeheartedly despise that "song".

With the music video for "...Ready For It?" dropping this week is it possible for it to somehow hit #1? I'm sure its streaming / views will be through the roof, but I don't know how the charts work as well as you guys :)
