When it comes to rap music I am so clueless that even google can't help me. That's absolutely fine. If it helps, this is the last one of the chapter. These last three songs have all had varying degrees of popularity and quality, and the latter is absolutely subjective, but I don't think you'll hear too many people arguing about this next song. Widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential rap songs ever released, a song that has lasted long after it was first conceived at the request of Spike Lee for his seminal film Do the Right Thing, a song that remains as powerful as it has always been, even thirty years later, because the issues Chuck D raps about haven't changed all that much in thirty years...this is the enduring, lasting influence of "Fight the Power". NINETEEN EIGHTY-NINE, THE NUMBER, ANOTHER SUMMER...SOUND OF THE FUNKY DRUMMER!
What we got to say Power to the people no delay To make everybody see In order to fight the powers that be
SONG #17 Public Enemy - Fight the Power

And yet another HARD SWERVE! This time, we're heading to Europe and to a sound that we kind of, sort of touched the surface of in the first Journey, but not really. This 2005 song, off of their third album, is widely considered to be this group's most popular song, They took their name from a song by a influential band, a band which featured one of the most prolific producers of the modern era. I've used at least one of their songs before in a previous Rock Tournament. This song was also featured on a FIFA soundtrack in a World Cup year.

Doves - Black and White Town? Right FIFA year (technically, the World Cup game that year was a separate release), wrong song.

Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch There we go. Book Two, Chapter Five: They Persisted
I think that the first Journey went over pretty well, all things considered, but there were a couple of flaws to be found, particularly in some of the songs and artists that I left out, and particularly when it comes to the women. Now, I felt like I made some good choices in the female artist and vocalist department in the last Journey, but there were also DEFINITELY some artists that I did not touch on that were glaring omissions. The first artist of this chapter is definitely one of the most glaring, as Ladytron has long been a favorite artist of mine, and it's absurd that they had to wait until NOW to get the treatment they deserve. But it's okay, we're taking care of that omission now, and with, arguably, their most popular song.
Everything you touch you don't feel Do not know what you steal Shakes your hand, takes your gun Walks you out of the sun

From Europe, we go to...well, Europe, though we are moving on from England and over to Sweden for this next artist. This former teen pop star wound up becoming one of the more synonymous acts in her genre. She'd wind up releasing a #1 hit in the UK, and the follow-up project was one of the biggest critical successes of the current decade so far. This song is not the big hit off of that project, but it does feature one hell of a music video.

It's time you (we?) had the talk. And speaking of artists I overlooked for the previous Journey, HELLO, ROBYN! I was actually well familiar with Robyn before her critical darling phase, as she was a teen pop star in her early days. "Show Me Love" remains one of my favorite songs of its kind from that era, actually. Robyn, of course, morphed from being a teen pop star to being a critical star, with songs like "With Every Heartbeat" and "Dancing on My Own". Both of those are really good songs, to be sure, but the song that I wanted to showcase is the song that really had me falling head over heels in love with Robyn all over again. It doesn't hurt that the music video for this song is a one-take masterpiece.
Tell her not to get upset Second-guessing everything you said and done And then when she gets upset Tell her how you never mean to hurt no one
SONG #19 Robyn - Call Your Girlfriend

This duo has come a long, LONG way in the last fifteen years. They went from being a indie darling act to an indie act dabbling in pop to a pop act dabbling in indie...to taking things full circle and just flat out becoming a pop duo last year. This song is from their most recent album and is still probably my favorite from that album. It also wasn't the first single, so, no, it's not that one, but it did get a music video.

Tegan and Sara - Stop Desire? So close. Boy, Tegan and Sara have come a long way, haven't they? I remember when they first broke out with "Walking with a Ghost". I've tried listening to that song now in the context of what Tegan and Sara have become almost fifteen years later, and I can't do it. Then again, I always felt like this was always going to be the endgame for Tegan and Sara Quin. Hearthrob was the duo starting to embrace their pop insides, and Love You to Death would see them fully embrace it, but it's always entertaining to remind myself how they started out and then come back to where they are now. I won't lie, though...I kind of like where they are now more than where they used to be.
Now I wanna write a love song Even though you never ever ask me for one Write you a letter, send sweet poems Ask you for forgiveness, tell you I was wrong
SONG #20 Tegan and Sara - U-Turn

The next band are decidedly less well known than any of the previous three acts featured, but this Canadian band are probably well-known lately to people who frequent the Alt/Active forum, thanks to my insistence on showing them off in just about any rock tournament that I can, particularly taking from one album of theirs. I've used the first song and the second song on this 2010 album for previous Rock Tournaments...so, naturally, song #21 is the fourth song on that album.

The Birthday Massacre - Control I guess you're not...in the dark about The Birthday Massacre. Let's not beat around the bush here: It was inevitable that The Birthday Massacre would show up in one of these Journey rankdowns. After all, I've included them in multiple Rock Tournaments, and I've tried to introduce them to as many people as possible over the years. Even still, they're criminally overlooked, a band that deserves even more of a cult following than the one they actually have. I could have went with a number of songs for TBM, but I decided to stick with the album that I like the most from TBM, with a song that I have not submitted yet for anything on Pulse...as far as I know.
Two faced, too poised to shed a tear No memory to speak of Past in the night we didn't hear The fading breath of your love

If Green was able to guess the previous hint as easily as he did, this one should be a layup. This next song is another popular rock tournament staple from me, though just for the one song that is being revealed here. This artist was the bassist of two very popular Alt bands, and this song is the only song of hers to actually do much of anything in the US in terms of radio success.

Auf der Maur - Followed the Waves A layup...blocked by peacebone. Fair enough. Really, you knew this song was coming at some point, right? Seemingly as much as The Birthday Massacre, I've pushed this song any time that I can. I almost feel like it would be a forgotten song at times if it wasn't for how often I STILL talk about it. When this song was first released, it was my everything. Years later, it has not lost its impact. Melissa Auf Der Maur will certainly be remembered more for being a bassist in Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins, but she had a brief solo career, too, and my goodness, the first solo song she released remains her best. This is one of my favorite epic rock songs, male or female.
Feel me sneaking around again Am I hanging around again? Can't you see That my heart lies My heart lies to you

Okay, time for another swerve on this roller coaster, and it's one that's going to take us back...WAY back. This 1980 song is the title track of one of the most influential albums of its genre. It was this band's signature song and a song that wound up being hugely influential on another big movement within the genre. The name of the band came from a song from the singer/bassist's previous band.

Motorhead - Ace of Spades I'm so excited to finally get to include them in the Journey... Book Two, Chapter Six: God Save the Queen
Out of all of the omissions that I noticed from my first Journey rankdown, this next band was THE big one. When I realized what I had done and left these guys out, I tried to figure out a way to fit them into the first Journey rankdown without it seeming too out of place. I just couldn't figure out a way to do it. To make up for it, I basically created a chapter that specifically allows for them to get their just desserts. The fact of the matter is that there cannot be a Journey series that takes a look back at the long and winding road of my music fandom that DOESN'T include this trio, a band that played a huge role in me falling in love with heavy metal, and particularly this song. They are Motörhead, and they're gonna kick your ass.
You know I'm born to lose And gambling's for fools But that's the way I like it baby I don't wanna live forever And don't forget the joker!
SONG #23 Motörhead - Ace of Spades

This next song is probably not this band's signature song, but it is the title track of the band's 1990 album, and it's a pretty damn popular song in its own right. The album this song is featured on is notable for being the last album to feature this band's legendary vocalist for fifteen years, as he wanted to focus on another project. This song is currently featured in Green's Sports Soundtrack rankdown...which almost made me remove this from my rankdown, but I just could not justify getting rid of it.

Judas Priest - Painkiller Time to rip off this bandaid... I won't lie, I was kind of miffed when Green included this in his Sports Soundtrack rankdown, because I thought that meant that I was going to have to replace this song for another song, maybe even another song of theirs. The more I thought about it, though, there was simply no way that this song was not going to be included here. It's, by far, my favorite song of this band, and it would be wrong for me to include any other song of theirs. It also didn't hurt that I couldn't think of another band and song that needed to be here more. So, Judas Priest, it's safe to say that it's time for you to unleash the painkiller.
Faster than a bullet, terrifying scream Enraged and full of anger, he's half man and half machine Rides the Metal Monster, breathing smoke and fire Closing in with vengeance soaring high
SONG #24 Judas Priest - Painkiller

Look, I wanted to do a great hint for this song, how it's probably one of their most popular songs, how it's possibly their most popular song before the arrival of their main vocalist, and how it's STILL performed live frequently...but, really, this is a band that, after the previous two reveals, likely needs no introduction. When there's Motorhead and Priest, there's also...
