Just got three absolutely fantastic ideas for rankdowns. 1) 25 "classic" songs ranging from the 60s-90s from some of the biggest artists of all time. Here Comes the Sun, Like a Rolling Stone, Sweet Child of Mine, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Superstition, Bohemian Rhapsody, Billie Jean, Me and Bobby McGee, etc.2) 25 "emo" songs from the 2000s for that middle school throwback feel. Miss Murder, All the Small Things, All Around Me, I Write Sins Not Tragedies, Check Yes Juliet, MakeDamnSure, Misery Business, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, etc. 3) 25 "teen pop" songs from the late 90s-early 00s. Whole Again, I Want It That Way, Just the Girl, Candy, I Do!!, (There's Gotta Be) More to Life, Backflip, MMMBop, etc. I just don't know which one to start first! So, yeah, I decided, lol. SonglistAerosmith - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun Billy Joel - Piano Man Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone Eagles - Hotel California Elton John - Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time) Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child of Mine Janet Jackson - That's the Way Love Goes Janis Joplin - Me and Bobby McGee Journey - Don't Stop Believin' Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven Madonna - Material Girl Mariah Carey - Always be My Baby Marvin Gaye - Ain't No Mountain High Enough Metallica - Enter Sandman Michael Jackson - Billie Jean Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Prince - Kiss Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson Stevie Wonder - Superstition Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) No submitting yet. I wanted your guys's take on the list. I did limit it to 25 artists only for the first rankdown in this series. If it's successful enough to get a second installment, I would plan on switching out several of the artists and keeping some, but using different songs, etc. Most of these songs were picked by thinking of an extremely successful artists and grabbing their #1 song from Spotify.

I don't have thoughts on what to chop and change on your list (if it gets altered at all) but based on that list I'm ready to go all in on 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody', and tank Madonna.

Just f my s up with this song list. I have a clear #25, but I sure as hell don't have a clear #1, because there's a TON of great songs.
I'd switch "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" for "Dream On", personally, but I imagine most people wouldn't.

I'd probably tank Aerosmith regardless so at least for me, IDC which song you go with.

This is actually perfect now that I decided I wasn't going to do the Classic Rock rankdown I had previously brought up. A lot of these songs were in my list for that.
This is a very solid list. I would have preferred "The Boxer" over "Mrs. Robinson", but I get why that's the Simon & Garfunkel song used.

This list is EXCEPTIONAL
I'd personally switch out Kiss with When Doves Cry, but that's just me and I still love the list

YAS @ these selections!
I'm surprised Material Girl was chosen to represent Madonna and not, you know, Like A Prayer or Vogue?

Great list of songs and I will definitely do this.
I would only potentially swap out "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" for "Dream On", "That's The Way Love Goes" for one of Janet's Control era classics, "Material Girl" for either "Like A Prayer", "La Isla Bonita", "Live To Tell", or "Express Yourself", "Always be My Baby" for "Vision Of Love" or "Fantasy", and "Kiss" for either "When Doves Cry" or "I Would Die 4 U" or "Purple Rain".

will definitely participate in this one. I know every song so will enjoy re-listening to most of these. I see only maybe 2 songs I don't like so this will be hard.

Well...you weren't lying about these being Gold Standard songs. I really like almost all of these. I might do this, but I'm going to be busy in the next few months and I'm already doing two of these lists.

UPDATESurprisingly, or maybe not, I've already received two lists! There is a very clear number one at the moment, with its final score being half that of the current number two song. Will we have a clear winner that never lets go of the top spot? All of the songs with female lead vocalists are in relatively the same area with one exception. In fact, all of the females are together, broken up only by Simon & Garfunkel. The female song that is separated from the rest is 8 spots away from the others. Are we looking at a total female blowout or female domination? As far as the losers go, one song seems to be the favorite for last place, with a final score of two points larger than the #24 song. Since we only have two lists, there are plenty of ties. (Ties will be broken by standard deviation in the final list.) 4 & 5, 13 & 14, 15 & 16, and 21 & 22 are all tied. With these two lists, there are two songs with #1 rankings, currently coming in at #1 and #6. Two songs also have #25 rankings, currently coming in at #14 and #24. Those that have submitted lists (in alphabetical order): craziaskowboi★Disco★

UPDATEWe're now up to five lists submitted, and things are heating up! Our #1 is still the same and now has an even more commanding lead, with the #2 song having nearly 4 times as many points as the #1. Our #2, however, is new, and has a decent lead over the #3 song. #3 and #4 are fairly close together now. We still have two ties at #13 & #14 and #23 & #24. Our #25 song has also changed twice since the last update. The block of females has also since split and now they're spread across the entire list. There are also no pockets of genres as each genre is currently being represented in the top five. However, the bottom five seems to be ruled by rock songs. Highest standard deviation currently belongs to a rock song sitting at #9. Lowest standard deviation is, of course, #1.
