Oh man, I can't believe Boyz II Men is out so early Their a cappella rendition of this song was pretty much perfect! It is a song that best lends itself to that kind of arrangement, imo.

You can tell who the black participants are in this rankdown Az Paynter I do get it (obviously strongly disagree); it's the crazy high falsetto to super bass contrast that makes it a classic in r&b but restricts its appeal anywhere outside of that. Theirs is the only version that even uses falsetto, now that I think about it. Much, much higher range than everyone else's. Does my #1 in any way make up for my #16? :'(

Is your #1 named either Martina McBride or Kelly Clarkson? Those are the only correct answers. Otherwise Cynthia will smother you with her wig.

I am kicking myself for not doing the Novelty Christmas, which is gonna start tomorrow. I knew like half of them, and my #1 would have been SO OBVIOUS! Oh well.

The Three Tenors were simply awful. I can understand the appeal of opera in certain contexts, but they totally ruined a Christmas classic with their robust vowels, nonexistent consonants, and old lady vibratos. I have to admit they are the ONLY people who I would let get away with such a long version. It's almost not Silent Night, but an entirely new song that just happens to sample a huge chunk of Silent Night in it: they start off with some spoken word, then go into a verse that is definitely not Silent Night or Silent Night related, then start singing SN, then add 30-second post-choruses between each verse and on the last verse of SN add some whole other 'side' verse that no one asked for, and then go back to another entirely different verse to tie in with that first verse, and THEN end with a drawn-out harmonized merry Christmas melody! If you cut out all of the song that they were *supposed* to be singing you'd still have a brand new 3-minute song there! It's the definition of doing too much...and I love every drop of it! Keyshia's was nice, but fell on the wrong side of the 4 minute marker (and came dangerously close to being on the wrong side of 5 minutes). With Demi I was actually more put off by the hack pianist than Demi herself. He sounded like he belonged in a 5th grade recital and it really brought her whole arrangement down. Christina was kind of an 'oblig' inclusion for me. I don't hate her on Christmas songs, but I'm honestly not a huge fan of her on them either.

Someone forgot to replace #12 with the Boyz II Men video. :kii: I'm so tired I legit do not even care. It didn't even hit me how drained I was until my grandmother gave me a $100 bill this evening and said 'take the rest of the week off, you are doing too much.' I wasn't too tired to take that $100 bill though lmao You can tell who the black participants are in this rankdown Az Paynter I do get it (obviously strongly disagree); it's the crazy high falsetto to super bass contrast that makes it a classic in r&b but restricts its appeal anywhere outside of that. I knew like half of them, and my #1 would have been SO OBVIOUS! Oh well. Still not too late, at the rate I'm going you could submit it 24 hours from this exact moment and it would still be on time smh. In seriousness, if you get it in by 5 pm I'll take it.

I was really intrigued by Tori Kelly's version of this song. Being on top of a building, with just her and a microphone... Very interesting concept. But she really nailed that performance! As I mentioned earlier, this is a song that really lends itself to a really light arrangement, especially a cappella, so the fact that she did this a cappella definitely helped this one to rise above the crowd for me.

I wanted to boost Tori more but I think she started off a bit under the key? Also, not sure whose idea it was for her to sing on the Capitol roof but the vid didn't make the full impact it was going for; it should have been a one-shot. She nailed the key change though.
Edit, I don't want it to seem like I didn't love her version! I actually really liked the idea of her singing outside, it's just the specific location - it felt visually 'busy' and distracting, though a one-shot camera zooming in and around her might have cut down on that. My obsession with this song leads me to love almost all versions, and so I had to really nitpick to decide where to put most of them lol

I was really wanting to like Tori's song...but something was just missing for me. I agree with @cynthiarose that it just didn't quite have the impact that I was expecting.

Josh Groban has a phenomenal voice, but his version of this song was kinda boring to me (probably because it was over 4 minutes long. Lol anyone noticing a pattern with my opinion on the best length of this song?)

bboat11 ranked Bey a bit high considering the length of the song and the sheer level of EXTRA she has going on here lol. If Temptations were the original Doing Too Much kings, mid-2000s Beyonce is definitely the queen. I didn't realize until earlier tonight that I should have made sure to clarify that this solo version is what I meant to be ranked, and not the Destiny's Child version (which is just as extra, but with harmony). I'm not sure it makes that much of a difference.

I didn't hear this version of the song! I think I ranked a really old version of this song that was her with a group... And the first thing I was fascinated by was how freaking low she went at the beginning of the song. Seriously, she hit notes that most male pop singers can't even hit... But this version you just posted is really pretty, so I am comfortable ranking it as high as I did Edit: Lol I just saw you talking about me upthread. It's true, I ranked the old version! It was VERY extra, but it was also so fascinating to me from a vocal technique standpoint that I was able to give it some major props Let's just say she pulled off "extra" WAY better than XTina did on "The Christmas Song"...
