Az Paynter I'm KIND of letting you pass because: Fantasia! But with that said, this is a very restrained Fantasia so no full hood pass for you just yet. My one criticism is bish, PICK YOUR BREATHING SPOTS. I'm having none of this stopping in the middle of a word, finish your damn phrases. That said, this was the first version that came up on the preference revealer and musically it was the most interesting. That's why it stuck with me well enough to be my #1. "virginT mother" was my biggest pet peeve there lolol.

YEESSSSSS, a huge blowout victory for Kelly/Trisha/Reba!!! Their version is honestly the only version that can come close to Martina for me. They really do bring out the best of each other, vocally. I love the format of this arrangement, how they each take a verse and then they all come together for an a cappella finish. I hear the complaints of Reba being too loud, but all I can say to that is bishes she's singing the lead part, no wonder you can hear it so well. It's what you're USED to hearing! Fantastic rankdown, overall "Silent Night" is admittedly not one of my favorite Christmas songs, but I felt like we pretty much got the best songs into the top 5. If we had swapped Boyz II Men with Fantasia, it would have been absolutely perfect!

I don't know what #notmypresident was smoking lol. He was the only person to rank Kelly or Pentatonix in the bottom half.
I was honestly surprised at how stellar Kelly's version did, as a lot of the Kelly fans kind of hated on it when WIR came out because they didn't like Reba's voice smh. My personal opinion: live version is perfection. The recorded version is almost perfection, but Reba's voice does stick out when it's her turn to sing and for some reason the mixing didn't or couldn't blend her in well, so it inadvertently ends up turning Kelly and Trisha into her backup singers when it gets to the a capella part. Not sure why that happened, as that issue was not there when they were on stage together. But even with that, it's a great rendition. The only reason that is even problematic is that Kelly shouldn't be a background singer on her own album lol, and I don't think that a capella part is supposed to have a distinct 'lead' voice on it. but we all know Kelly does not care one bit.
As for Pentatonix, their live arrangement is distinctly different from the studio version and it somehow manages to be even more flawless.

Forgot Pentatonix was my #3, I did well to have my top 3 as the actual top 3. I can overlook having all of them out of place.

I've never been a big fan of "Silent Night", but the Kelly/Trisha/Reba version changed that. They sound fantastic together.

How on planet Earth is the Boyz II Men version in the bottom half of the ranking? That was an INCREDIBLE discovery. I knew I'd be alone on the Groban love, but Groban's Christmas songs are some of my favorite Christmas songs period. Just re-reading the thread and coming back to this post; 'The Bells Of New York City' is one of Josh Groban's Christmas songs is it not? He sang that song on a televised Christmas carols show here one time when he came to Australia, and I have loooooooooved that song ever since.

Very pleased with the results! Kinda close to mine!
I realized that 1. I don't love the song 2. I think I was starting to go crazy after listening to 16 versions of the same song.
And I realized what influenced my rankings. I understand that this is a soft song but I don't want smooth and breathy vocals. Christina's version is so low because she couldn't even sing ONE WORD without doing a vocal run or something try hard.
Also, Martina's version was soft as well, it almost sounded annoying to me cause I want me some screaming. I don't know.
What I know for sure is that I won't listen to the song for two weeks, or maybe even next Christmas season lol

So...when I first saw a version of Fantasia on this rankdown I actually thought it was this...
This comes from an old Avon classic album I remember my mom playing back in the day. Anyways...needless to say Fantasia in this rankdown was still great lol.

Thought about doing this one but I didn't have enough time to listen to all of these because I've been busy, but my #1 was gonna be Kelly/Trisha/Reba so yay my input wasn't needed after all, lol. <3
I already submitted for the country edition of this that's happening in a few days down the road and there's others that I'll submit for when I get more time. Love what you're doing with this @antigonerising!

Also, Martina's version was soft as well, it almost sounded annoying to me cause I want me some screaming. I don't know. As somebody who is super familiar with all of Martina's music, that is honestly where most of the charm in her version comes from. When she turns in an uncharacteristically restrained performance, it really helps a song to stand out from her others. Especially because her voice is pretty enough that she CAN pull off soft singing just as well as powerful singing. But on the flipside, she did make her millions by belting, so it is totally reasonable to be put off when she doesn't deliver that. But that is why God gave us "O Holy Night"

Fatigue and headache :( I took my grandmother's advice to heart a little too much. Days 3 and 4 will be combined and revealed tomorrow.

For a second I thought I was gonna miss one of these and wouldn't have time to slap together a list for the other half of the double - but then I double checked and I've done the first four lists so I'm alright. Novelty + Sad were days 3 and 4, and those two are the ones being done together, right?

oblig master tag for everyone also just a friendly reminder that it's not too late to submit for the remaining 7 days of Christmas! I've been so last minute with calculating these that it's not even too late for tomorrow, really.

I didn't do my own rankdown, smh. I did Sad Christmas but just didn't feel like delaying any longer to get to this one, even if it would have only taken 10-20 minutes.

*crazyb submitted to this rankdown before the Weird Al addition, and never returned to his list to include him. I didn't want to throw out his submission but also didn't want to assign Al a random rank so I just calculated his scores based on everyone else's submissions. Unfortunately for Red I really don't think a rank from crazyb would have made a significant difference anyway.

lol, RIP me.
I expect my #2 to go out in short order, too, so here's to hoping my #4 surprises.
(Can't believe my #11 beat Weird Al. It's one of the worst Christmas songs ever.)

I don't know why I find it so odd that the Hippopotamus song is the one that had the highest s.d. here, but I do.
Then again I am probably biased. I really only fell in love with that song as a kid because the singer and I have the same first name lol
