"Down Home" is one that I did not know before this rankdown, and it was pretty good, but I am not really sad to see it leave here. With so many even bigger classics left, this one will not be too missed.

I love this song a lot, wish it had lasted a little longer but I didn't think it would make it this far so I am happy with this.

One away from the top 15! Here's what's still in:
Tennessee River Feels So Right Love in the First Degree Mountain Music Take Me Down Dixieland Delight The Closer You Get Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler) If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band) Song of the South High Cotton Born Country I'm in a Hurry (and Don't Know Why) Reckless Give Me One More Shot Sad Lookin' Moon
Which one of these will miss the top 15? Find out tonight!
*Two top 10s and three other top 20s will be leaving us.

Cody, I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend. I've dealt with my share of losses over the past few years...the process of a new normal can be brutal.
I spent the weekend elbow deep in Alabama...at the show in Laughlin NV...Jeff was there (he's only playing select shows these days). He was totally in the moment, sang "Working Man Blues", a concert staple and did a few hot licks on that green Parker Fly guitar. Jason (still can't remember his last name, shame on me!) fills in on the fiddle with remarkable grace and style. The look on his face is priceless when he performs...like "how did I get so frickin' lucky to be on this stage with these legends!?!?"

Perfect top 15! I think that "Sad Lookin' Moon", "Love In The First Degree", "The Closer You Get", "Reckless", and maybe "High Cotton" will be among the next 5.

Our collective tastes are so vastly different I can't project the next five...I know five that should still be in and five that should never have gotten this far.

I'm hoping "High Cotton", "Dixieland Delight", "Give Me One More Shot", "Song of the South", and "Mountain Music" misses the top 10 but I could definitely see "Reckless" and "Sad Lookin' Moon" missing even though I'm hoping they both make it.

"Forty Hour Week" played right into the hands of the common man...and it still rocks the house in concert.
There are people in this country who work hard every day
Not for fame or fortune do they strive
But the fruits of their labor are worth more than their pay
And it's time a few of them were recognized
Hello Detroit auto workers, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
Hello Pittsburgh steel mill workers, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
This is for the one who swings the hammer, driving home the nail
Or the one behind the counter, ringing up the sale
Or the one who fights the fires, the one who brings the mail
For everyone who works behind the scenes
You can see them every morning in the factories and the fields
In the city streets and the quiet country towns
Working together like spokes inside a wheel
They keep this country turning around
Hello Kansas wheat field farmer, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
Hello West Virginia coal miner, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
This is for the one who drives the big rig, up and down the road
Or the one out in the warehouse, bringing in the load
Or the waitress, the mechanic, the policeman on patrol
For everyone who works behind the scenes
With a spirit you can't replace with no machine
Hello America let me thank you for your time

15. Sad Lookin' MoonTotal Points: 195 Average Rank: 21.6666667 Standard Deviation: 16.12452 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 2 LBTrocks - 3 someguy - 5 castleoblivion26 - 9 tim - 18 Cody Wants Out... - 23 bboat11 - 24 mamasaid - 28 gardyfan - 29 DistrictTwelve - 56 Yep, this almost made the top 10, but top 15 ain't too shabby though; actually it's pretty darn remarkable since I don't really hear this on the radio anymore (that I know of). 'Tis sad, because this is really cool. Oh yeah, four people lose a top three, a top 5, a top ten, and a top twenty, respectively. Don't fret! This did great for a song with no recurrent play (again, that I know of).

The Closer You GetTotal Points: 184 Average Rank: 20.44444444 Standard Deviation: 10.39364 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 Billboard Hot 100 Peak: 38 Billboard Adult Contemporary Peak: 9 mamasaid - 4 castleoblivion26 - 13 someguy - 16 Cody Wants Out... - 17 gardyfan - 17 tim - 22 bboat11 - 23 DistrictTwelve - 35 LBTrocks - 37 Following: Kanenrá:ke...aaaaaaaaaand we're back to seeing more AC crossovers leave us already. I think this is t also the first time where every one put it in their top 40; most of us put it in our top 20 with a solitary top 5 placement.
With that being said, there are now two AC crossovers remaining: one of them is sitting comfortably in the top 10, while the other one is going to get cut right before the top 10. Out of either "Love in the First Degree" or "Take Me Down", which one of these will miss it?

Dang it, I was going to predict "Sad Lookin' Moon" based on that hint, but I didn't get home from work in time to respond! Both that song and "The Closer You Get" are great songs, and definitely deserve the top 15, but at the same time I am not at all upset to see them miss the top 10 in favor of some of their biggest classics that are still in this rankdown.
Between "Take Me Down" and "Love In The First Degree", I think that LITFD will be the one to miss the top 10! They are both great, but I'm pretty sure that "Take Me Down" might have the edge.

"The Closer You Get" is definitive Alabama. It was my #4...my entire top 5 is interchangeable depending on my mood. It should be a top 5, but maybe only for those of us who have lived the history of Alabama right along with them.

I am SO. SORRY. you guys. I have been unbelieveably busy the last few days with work, catching up on rankdowns I promised I'd participate in, and just life in general. I'm currently working on over half a dozen rankdowns, where most of them are due within the next week or so, but I'll try to get us to the top 10 tonight since I'm on Spring Break (from work)!!

We could all use one of these every now and then... 13. Give Me One More ShotTotal Points: 183 Average Rank: 20.333333 Standard Deviation: 13.75682 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 3 Cody Wants Out... - 5 bboat11 - 6 someguy - 7 DistrictTwelve - 13 LBTrocks - 23 gardyfan - 23 castleoblivion26 - 28 tim - 33 mamasaid - 45 Following: Kanenrá:ke Yep. I lose a second top 5 here along with two other top tens and another top 15. This has always been one of my favorites from them and from 90s country in general. In fact, I made my playlist for my '95 Country RD a few weeks ago and every song on there was... I probably have close to a dozen candidates for my #1...

12. Love in the First DegreeTotal Points: 182 Average Rank: 20.222222 Standard Deviation: 9.756764 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 Billboard Hot 100 Peak: 15 Billboard Adult Contemporary Peak: 5 tim - 9 mamasaid - 10 gardyfan - 13 castleoblivion26 - 17 Cody Wants Out... - 18 LBTrocks - 21 someguy - 26 DistrictTwelve - 29 bboat11 - 39 Following: Kanenrá:keFor a while, this was sitting pretty comfortably in the top 10 until the last couple of lists. Luckily, most of us put it in our top 30. I was tempted to put a crappy Luke Bryan song as a clue for this, but I resisted (hey, he sung this on the Alabama tribute album). :kii:

An easy top 5 candidate misses the top 10 next. Which one of these will it be? Tennessee River Mountain Music Take Me Down Dixieland Delight Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler) If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band) Song of the South High Cotton Born Country I'm in a Hurry (and Don't Know Why) Reckless P.S. I got a perfect ranking outta this one.
