I had to include an album track... 65. Five O'Clock 500Total Points: 488 Average Rank: 54.2222 Standard Deviation: 7.612125 ( SMALLEST!) castleoblivion26 - 42 LBTrocks - 46 DistrictTwelve - 49 Cody Wants Out... - 54 mamasaid - 54 bboat11 - 55 gardyfan - 61 someguy - 63 tim - 64 FOLLOWING: Kanenrá:ke The opening track from Alabama's greatest hits compilation initially titled For the Record, but later changed to The Essential in a 2005 re-issue, this also marks as the only track to have not been released as a single. The two newer tracks that followed, "Keepin' Up" and "How Do You Fall in Love", became singles and will be seen much later on. Despite this track not having a last place ranking from any one of us, the mere fact that it was an album track was enough for it to get booted out in last place. castleoblivion26 has a near top-40 loss while three others lose a bottom five.

I honestly didn't flat out dislike anything here, but "Five O'Clock 500" was definitely underwhelming. Not upset to see it leave first!

I'm not upset to see this gone here. While there are many songs from Alabama that I really love, there are a few that I really cannot stand and this song is more in the meh category for me.

And that 'someone' is me :kii: 64. Which I think is good since I found no redeemable qualities about this song whatsoever. Sadly, two people lose their top 40 entries already.

I really hope that that gif represents "Dancin', Shaggin' On the Boulevard"... 63. Two different people lose a top 40 with one of them being a top 30 this time. Not a bad song by any means, but pretty forgetful imo.

Okay, I know what you're thinking: "WTH does 'California Gurls' have to do with Alabama?". Well, back when that song came out, I began to consider Katy a major sell-out when I really dug her pop-rock sound from her debut album (btw, she's pretty much abandoned that sound by now and is no longer relevant thank the Lord ). The key term in that last sentence was SELL-OUT, which critics considered this group to have done when this got released in '99... 62. God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You (feat. 'N Sync)Total Points: 455 Average Rank: 50.55556 Standard Deviation: 17.47935 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 3 Billboard Hot 100 Peak: 29 DistrictTwelve - 16 LBTrocks - 32 Cody Wants Out... - 41 mamasaid - 50 tim - 60 castleoblivion26 - 63 bboat11 - 64 someguy - 64 gardyfan - 65 Following: Kanenrá:ke DistrictTwelve becomes the first one to lose a top 20 while LBTrocks loses another top 40 with this and I suffer from a near top-40 loss as well. Personally, I don't think the song is that bad, but I do understand all the criticism it got and is still getting apparently.

Rounding out the bottom five is the first #1 hit for the group. Which one will it be?

I ranked this low because Alabama is better than this. Not to say this song is necessarily bad, or that they did a bad job with it but it just wasn't them and for that alone I ranked it as low as I did. Glad it is gone early.

Okay...since no one's gonna guess... 61. Face to Face (feat. K.T. Oslin)Total Points: 435 Average Rank: 48.33333333 Standard Deviation: 8.529361 ( 2ND SMALLEST!) Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1tim - 36 bboat11 - 42 Cody Wants Out... - 42 mamasaid - 43 someguy - 48 DistrictTwelve - 51 gardyfan - 52 castleoblivion26 - 59 LBTrocks - 62 Following: Kanenrá:ke Evidently, Alabama doesn't have that much of an impact on Pulse since they couldn't escape the bottom five without having one of their #1 hits nixed. It's a shame really since I'm a pretty big fan of (most) country groups, but not that surprising to me. tim now becomes the fifth person to join the top-40 losses club, while bboat11 and I dodge another bullet by having near top-40 losses. Meanwhile, LBTrocks loses his first bottom five placement.
I will do a recap tomorrow morning and throw in a few more tags while I'm at it!

Obviously there are some songs I would have liked to have seen out earlier than some of the ones revealed, but overall I'm not upset at all. I haven't lost any of my favorites!

I’m a big fan of K.T. Oslin, so her inclusion on “Face to Face” song (albeit a very small one) moves it up a few notches for me.

I really hope that that gif represents "Dancin', Shaggin' On the Boulevard"... Dancin' On The Boulevard is one of the more polarizing songs on this list...for me it's top 10. I find it so much fun every single time I hear it..... Netflix the movie "Shag"...explains it clearly

I never thought of Alabama as selling out for releasing a cover of "God Must've Spent a Little More Time on You" since it just seemed to be the trend at the time. Mark Chesnutt covered "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" if only because he was pressured by his label to do so; Brooks & Dunn covered John Waite's "Missing You" which didn't do well for them; even Dwight Yoakam covered "Crazy Little Thing Called Love."
Without a doubt, though, there was a downturn in the quality of country music that began in 1999 and lasted until 2001 came around. It really seemed to be going through an identity crisis lol.

Here's the recap that I promised I would give this morning, but didn't get to for real-life reasons (had a trig student; they're my #1 priority after all ): Last night, the bottom five Alabama songs were revealed with very little damage done to our own rankings (a handful of top 40s here and there, but it could always be worse); anyways, the top 60 remaining songs are as follows: My Home’s in Alabama Tennessee River Why Lady Why Old Flame Feels So Right Love in the First Degree Mountain Music Take Me Down Close Enough to Perfect Dixieland Delight The Closer You Get Lady Down on Love Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler) When We Make Love If You’re Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band) (There’s A) Fire in the Night There’s No Way Forty Hour Week (For a Livin’) Can’t Keep a Good Man Down Touch Me When We’re Dancing You’ve Got The Touch She & I Tar Top Fallin’ Again Song of the South If I Had You High Cotton Southern Star Pass It On Down Jukebox in My Mind Forever’s As Far As I’ll Go Down Home Here We Are Then Again Born Country Take a Little Trip I’m in a Hurry (and Don’t Know Why) Once Upon a Lifetime Hometown Honeymoon Reckless T.L.C. A.S.A.P. The Cheap Seats We Can't Love Like This Anymore Give Me One More Shot She Ain’t Your Ordinary Girl In Pictures It Works The Maker Said Take Her Sad Lookin’ Moon Dancin’, Shaggin’ on the Boulevard Of Course I’m Alright She’s Got That Look in Her Eyes How Do You Fall in Love Keepin’ Up Small Stuff When It All Goes South Deep River Woman (with Lionel Richie) Old Alabama (with Brad Paisley) Christmas in Dixie Angels Among Us tim bboat11 mamasaid gardyfan .indulgecountry castleoblivion26 fearlessarrow LBTrocks DistrictTwelve zaclord 🌈 someguy Kanenrá:keI've also tagged some people that weren't able to participate simply to let them know that results are unraveling. I'll most likely do a recap like this every five or ten reveals done. I will resume with 60-56 shortly...

tim so you're sayin' country music isn't going throught an identity crisis now?!? 60. Of Course I'm AlrightTotal Points: 433 Average Rank: 48.11111 Standard Deviation: 14.70072 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 22 DistrictTwelve - 27 someguy - 34 bboat11 - 35 mamasaid - 38 gardyfan - 51 castleoblivion26 - 58 tim - 61 Cody Wants Out... - 64 LBTrocks - 65 Following: Kanenrá:keKicking off the top 60 is the least successful single from Dancin' on the Boulevard. Four people lose a top 40, including one with a top 30, while tim, LBTrocks, and I lose another one of our bottom fives. I definitely would not be able to tell y'all how it goes at this point, so I guess that goes to show how memorable this song actually is.

Man, y'all did this song dirty... 58. Deep River WomanTotal Points: 427 Average Rank: 47.444444 Standard Deviation: 15.81227 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 10 Billboard Adult Comtemporary Peak: 28 Billboard Hot 100 Peak: 71 someguy - 22 bboat11 - 26 Cody Wants Out... - 38 DistrictTwelve - 46 tim - 53 LBTrocks - 53 mamasaid - 60 gardyfan - 64 castleoblivion26 - 65 Following: Kanenrá:ke So... this is my very first top 40 loss and two others lose a top 30 as well, with someguy having a near top-20 one! Two others lose their bottom five, including a last-placer from castleoblivion26 . Honestly, I didn't think this deserved bottom 10, but I guess that's what happens when (i) you're a sucker for harmonies...of all sorts, and (ii) Alabama is only featured in a Lionel Richie single, which was one of the least successful ones from his multi-platinum album Dancing on the Ceiling all across the board (except the UK). It also doesn't help that there's a big slew of 80s year-end RDs happening right now and I only made a teeny-tiny dent in one of them.
To put more salt in my wounds, I lose two top 30s back-to-back, which were also #1 singles for the group in the 80s. Man, this was such a flop of a rankdown.

“Deep River Woman” was a first time listen for me (and maybe others) which may have led to its low ranking especially when put up against the rest of their discography. I actually really liked this and enjoyed the way Lionel’s vocals blended in with Randy’s.
I ended up going on a Lionel kick for a bit after this and had “Stuck On You” on repeat for days...so much so that I ended up singing that song at karaoke one drunkenly night lol.
