She was sixteen. Yes, but did anything from that album debut on the Hot 100?

I don't recall either one of those songs (and I'm more than old enough to remember that period), but their chart positions basically tell the story; they weren't big hits.

64 and 58 are numbers between 1 and 100 Ahhhh… but wait, does 16 count as "17 or younger?" Just checking...

Janet may not have been a big a-lister when that album was released, but that's not what this thread is about. This thread is about any artist who had a successful career and a presence in the musical landscape despite age disadvantages.

All I was saying was that I don't remember either one of those songs (and I don't). Their chart positions make it clear why because neither one of them charted very high. No where did I say that they didn't count and therefore didn't belong in this thread.

I will carry that a bit further. Chart positions NEVER tell the whole story, big hit or not. Especially looking back at older years.
The chart positions only mean popularity for that week & nothing more
In the case of these Janet songs there is more to the story, they paved the way for what was to come. Up to that point, her entertainment credits had been limited to television.

Kris Kross:
Both of them were 13 years old when "Jump" peaked at #1 on the Hot 100. They technically are the youngest people to top the Hot 100 but it was never counted since they were a duo.

Both Rihanna and Teairra Marí debuted at 17 when Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella put them both out within weeks of each other, mess.

That song blocked Bohemian Rhapsody from being a #1 Hit I love how one of the most iconic songs of all time was blocked by 2 13 year olds from being a #1 Hit

Aaron Carter was 10 (almost 11) when he debuted on the Hot 100. "Let the Music Heal Your Soul" in 1998. Granted, it was credited as "Bravo All-Stars".
He was 12 if you want solo. His song "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)" peaked at #35 in 2000.

Sammie was 12 with the jam "I Like It".
No mention yet of New Edition? They were all under 18 when Candy Girl charted.
