Alright everyone I have decided to do my own personal rankdowns going forward. Taking inspiration from gravey's favorite Female songs for this but this will be my Favorite Female Country Singers. I will choose 1 song from each to represent the artist. You are ranking the songs not the artist but the artist are the inspiration for the rankdown.
I originally planned on 40 songs only but as I put it together I had 46 artist that I wanted to include. I will spotlight the ones I do not include as I'm doing the reveals but for the rankdown it will still be 40 songs total.
I'm looking at a January deadline for this one so I am going to be revealing Artist and Songs one at a time. Plan is to have them all revealed by mid-Dec and then deadline to submit will be in January.
A few notes on how I chose the artist:
I focused mostly on solo artist but there are a couple groups/duos. I eliminated any group or duo that included a male singer completely from being included here so artist like Little Big Town, Lady Antebellum, The Wilkinsons, Joey + Rory, etc will not be included.
I tried not to include songs that have been in rankdowns before which for some artist is difficult to do so this didn't work out perfectly but it does mean songs like "Independence Day", "Whatever You Say", "Follow Your Arrow", "Cry", and "The House That Built Me" were all excluded.
I did not include current singles as I feel the newness of the songs would help them too much over the older songs. This means songs like "Every Little Thing", "Legends", and "I Could Use A Love Song" are not gonna be included (which extends to me not including Kelsea Ballerini or Carly Pearce as those are either the only song I like from them or the only one I know right now).
With all that being said, hope that some people are excited to see what songs I have chosen for this and will participate in this! Will have the first reveal later on tonight so stay tuned!

It should surprise absolutely no one that Martina McBride is going to be a part of this which is why she will be the first revealed Artist and Song. Picking the song for this was not easy as there are WAY too many songs I love from her. As there has already been a singles rankdown for her that eliminated all her singles. Plus all the songs on the albums Eleven, Evolution, and Wild Angels were eliminated. As there are plans to do rankdowns for all of her albums I decided to do a song that is not from one of her albums. The few that I was deciding between included "Little Bits of Lightning", "Harper Valley PTA" and, "Through Your Eyes" Ultimately I decided to go for a very unknown song from her because of the emotional connection I have for this song. I dedicated this song to my Grandmother years ago when she was battling cancer which she did beat it at that time. Unfortunately it came back and was not able to survive it the next time but she was a fan of Country music and probably the reason I am the fan I am today. This song is called "You'll Get Through This". I chose this song because I am hoping more people here it, it is an absolutely beautiful song about keeping hope even when all seems lost. This song was never included on any of Martina's albums and was not a single but instead was released on a compilation for a charity. Truth be told I don't know much about that charity but know that this song was worth getting the album. The album was The Mercy Project and featured Amy Grant, Point of Grace and Donna Summers to name a couple of the other artist on the album. The album was released in 2002. Note: This song is not on Spotify so you will have to rely on youtube to listen to it but it is beyond worth it!

Time for another reveal. I will not be doing reveals every day but as it is the beginning I wanted to post this one! Will probably be a few days before the next reveal! My next Artist rankdown is who this song is for. Patty Loveless is easily up there as one of my all time favorite singers. The way she can sing is incredible. Maybe not incredible in the way Martina's voice is but incredible in the way the emotions come out of her voice. Cannot wait to do her Singles Rankdown tbh but that is for later. When it came down to picking a song from her I did end up choosing a single of hers which means it will be included in the rankdown I'll be doing for her but as this song is easily among my favorites and has not been in a rankdown yet I decided to choose it. Something about this song spoke to me as a kid and I will say it reminded me of my parents when they split and is actually 2 songs that came out around the same time that have similar reasons for me to pick them. This song was a top 5 hit for Patty Loveless in 1995 and came from her incredible When Fallen Angels Fly album which included incredible songs like "Here I Am", "I Try To Think About Elvis", "Ships", and "Halfway Down".

If anyone wants to be tagged in results let me know! Also I want to say that there will most likely be artist missing from this that I should be including. @walker9 and Troublemaker I will say only 1 artist each that you guys mentioned made the list. Hope you both will still participate as there are a lot of great songs and Female Country singers included in this!

Time for another reveal. Mary Chapin Carpenter was a HUGE force in Country music in the '90's. She had multiple huge hits that truly have stood the test of time. She may not have the name recognition that some other Female Country singers from the '90's have but she is still remembered decently well. Radio still plays quite a few of her songs from time to time (at least where I live). Songs like "Passionate Kisses", "I Feel Lucky", and "Down At The Twist and Shout" still are heard regularly. One of the earliest Country songs I can remember is one of her songs. Never understood the lyrics until I was older but I absolutely loved the sound of this song and it is why I chose it to be a part of this rankdown! Could not do a Female Country rankdown without her! The song I chose from her was "He Thinks He'll Keep Her", this song brings back a lot of good memories for me so nostalgia definitely plays a big part for me here! here is a live version that includes Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis, Suzy Bogguss, Trisha Yearwood, Kathy Mattea and Emmylou Harris singing backup below is incredible, watch it! (oh and small hint all but one of those artist is in this rankdown) Tags: (will add anyone who wants to be tagged) bboat11 someguy zaclord 🌈 Cody Wants Out...

I'm just starting to listen to these 3 reveals, and I just have to say I always forget how much I love "You'll Get Through This". I could definitely imagine some people finding it boring, but hopefully that won't happen here. Martina's vocal performance is absolutely killer. This is definitely one of her more diva-sounding performances, and she totally nails it! It almost sounds like she is singing from deeper in her chest than normal, because her tone is SO rich and resonant, and she proves that she has the precision and dexterity to pull off a song filled with melisma and sound just as powerful as the greats like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. The way the song builds is incredible as well.

Time for another reveal. Faith Hill is another artist that just had to be a part of this rankdown! In the late '90's when I was first getting into Country music she was one of the big 3 for me which included Martina McBride and Jo Dee Messina. While I grew to love other artist a lot all three of them have remained near the top. While out of those 3 I would honestly say Faith is my least favorite she is still a favorite and there is no way I could do this without her being a part of it. Picking a song however was very difficult for me. I thought about doing a single like "Love Ain't Like That" which is one of my favorites from her but that has already been in a couple rankdowns already and since we have already had a Faith Hill singles rankdown I decided to stick to an album track that I love a lot. That being said I did debate including "When You Cry" from the Touched By An Angel soundtrack because I love her voice on that song. Ultimately I decided to pick a song from my favorite album of hers Cry! Now I just needed to decide which song from this album I would choose. Some of the songs that I thought about including included "If You're Gonna Fly Away", "I Think I Will", and "Free". I ended up choosing "If This Is The End" because she just sounds incredible on it and it is easily my favorite album track she has ever done. Time for another reveal or two. The artist that really made me a country fan. I mentioned this in the 1997 Country Rankdown but Lee Ann Womack is easily the reason I'm a fan of Country Music. There were a few songs I really liked prior to that August day in 1997 when I became hooked. Songs like "My Baby Loves Me", "She Don't Know She's Beautiful", "Don't Take The Girl", and "Strawberry Wine" are some that I loved before that day and when listening to music one day and changing the radio station I heard "Don't Take The Girl" on the radio. I would always quickly change the channel after the song I liked was playing but this particular day I was busy and didn't get to my radio in time to change it and so I was stuck listening to the next song. That song was "The Fool" by Lee Ann Womack and I was just stunned. This song was incredible and I wanted to hear it again as soon as possible so I continued to listen to the Country stations and sought out even more too so I could hear more. Lee Ann Womack's debut album is such an incredible album that I could have easily included ANY song from it here but ultimately ended up passing on all songs from it. "The Fool" doesn't get added here because it was apart of the 1997 Country Rankdown (and was my #1 for that Rankdown where it ended at #9!). Non-Single tracks that I considered included: "Make Memories With Me" with Mark Chesnutt, "Troubles Here", and "Do You Feel For Me". Her second album was the first album that I pre-ordered as I just had to have it. "A Little Past Little Rock" was just an incredible song and I still could not get enough of her voice and her music so I had to have it and I was not disappointed. Along with the other singles "I'll Think of A Reason Later", "(Now You See Me) Now You Don't", and "Don't Tell Me" the album tracks on Some Things I Know are easily among some of her best. "Some Things I Know" with Vince Gill, "I'd Rather Have What We Had" with Joe Diffie, "The Man Who Made My Mama Cry", and "I Keep Forgetting" with Vince Gill are all incredible songs. Ultimately I did not choose any of those though. When "I Hope You Dance" first came out I loved the song, and while I still love the song to this day it has definitely been overplayed and is not even close to her best song in my opinion (see "The Fool", "A Little Past Little Rock", "The Way I'm Livin'" and "I May Hate Myself In The Morning" as better songs). The album of the same name though is another incredible album. I could list just about every single song on that album because they are all incredible and would easily deserve to be chosen for this. "Thinkin' With My Heart Again", "The Healing Kind", "I Know Why The River Runs", "After I Fall", and "Stronger Than I Am" to name a couple because I just have too. If you have not heard this album because you are not a fan of the title track give it a shot because you will not be disappointed! Before I go even more overboard with describing everything about Lee Ann Womack's career I'm gonna just jump to the song I ultimately decided to include for this. That song is "Have You Seen That Girl" from her Call Me Crazy album. That album is one of my favorite albums from her with songs like "I Found It In You", "I Think I Know", and "Everything But Quits" with George Strait. Ultimately I chose a song that hits home and while I'm not going to get into the story here as it isn't something I feel like writing on a forum I will say that this song is a song that reminds me of someone in my life that I care very much about who went through something horrible and how they were after said event this song encapsulates that perfectly. Time for another reveal. One of the first songs I ever remember. Have talked about first songs I've heard before but this one I'm mentioning because it has not been in a rankdown yet and is a favorite. Suzy Bogguss has so many amazing songs and I'm not sure I'd still say this one is my favorite but it is still up there! "Hey Cinderella" Is the song I chose because I've always enjoyed this song a lot and can remember when the song came out I heard it all the time because of my Mom, Aunt and Grandmother would listen to Country Radio. Small fact about the album this song is from: Martina McBride sang background vocals on the album. Cannot find anything that says what songs but I don't think it was this song. Okay, my top 5 is full... Time to start revealing some songs that are a little easier to put low.
In other news, Suzy Bogguss was so freaking gorgeous! I only know like 2 of her songs, but I have a feeling that she would have been my celebrity crush if I had been alive and/or a young adult during her popular years...

Do yourself a favour and listen to at least her bigger hits - she has some really great songs in her catalogue.

She has a small enough catalog that maybe a small rankdown could happen to introduce people to her music, she really is great and her version of "Cold Day In July" is great.

Time for another reveal. Time for a more modern artist. Carrie Underwood is someone I've been a fan of since her first appearance on American Idol singing "I Can't Make You Love Me" as her audition song. I rooted for her that entire season and voted for her weekly. Was glad she won over Bo Bice who everyone at the time thought was gonna win. Her performance of "Alone" remains my favorite performance on that show ever. When her first album came out I got it right away. A couple of my favorite tracks from it were "Wasted", "Starts With Goodbye", "I Just Can't Live A Lie", and "Whenever You Remember". Ultimately I decided to choose "Starts With Goodbye" as the song and then last minute I switched it up to a more recent track. "Choctaw County Affair" was a song from her latest album Storyteller that I really enjoyed and so I decided to include it here.
