This boring, middle-of-the-road song somehow got top-level support despite most of us not caring much for it to begin. This was consistently in the 20s before those high rankings came in. How boring is it to rank the Foos top 5, honestly? 12

#11 only has two top tens, with one of them being a top 5. This song has the 10th lowest standard deviation, and because of that, it ended up amongst the top despite not having that many rabid fans. Like the two reveals before it, this song was consistently in the mid-20s before shooting up to where it is now. And like those songs, I hate those last lists I got because all they did was boost the generic, big hits despite being obvious winner choices and large hits on the format. The reason this ended up so high was because no one ranked it in the bottom 40.

You know that ESPN movie Doc and Darryl, about the two '80s Mets players whose careers spiraled into obscurity due to heavy cocaine addiction? This rankdown should be called Doc & Dm, because oh boy they have collectively tanked so many songs. I like it! (/Barney Gumble) I don't like "Empty Walls" missing the top ten, though. Or "Psychosocial". At least "Life is Beautiful" missed the top ten (I like it enough, but it was the worst of the remaining songs), so the top 10 is an all-Red top 40 affair. 1 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 9 11 | 24 33 If I had to guess, we're going to get a "Pretender" and "Hammerhead" top two (or at least one of the Foos songs and "Hammerhead", anyway), and "Hammerhead" will get its rightful revenge. We shall find out tomorrow, though.

I figured "Inside the Fire" would be out in the mid 20s so I'm very happy it was able to finish in the top 15. Overall, I'm satisfied with the top 10 though I'm not happy about "Empty Walls" missing out. {Prediction:}1. Hammerhead 2. The Pretender 3. The Day That Never Comes 4. The Fad 5. The Stone 6. Already Over 7. Let It Die 8. Zzyzx Rd. 9. Devour 10. Rise Today

15. Empty Walls - Serj TankianIf my ranking had anything to do with this travesty missing the top 10, you can thank me later. I don't like this guys vocals at all. Makes me wonder why I ,liked "Chop Suey" to begin with ? I gave this a thumbs up because of Red 's comment only. 14. Psychosocial - SlipknotI like this one. Not as much as "dead Memories" but I dig it. Nice to se it end up so high too. 13. Inside the Fire - DisturbedThis is an outstanding song. The Message, the Music, even the MV. Everyone should have this one in their top 5. 12. Long Road to Ruin - Foo FightersHere is a song I'll rank high weather it's on Alt or Active. Great song. 11. Life is Beautiful - Sixx:A.M.Wow! Surprised this came in so high, but I'm not complaining. I'd like this one and a few others to be played on my funeral. That means 3 of my top 10's actually made the top 10.

Extra:
Anger Cage - Course of Nature This extra rubs me the wrong why. The music is decent enough, but the band seemed like a bunch of posers. They look like Maroon 5 and the song is just a rehash of all my favorite songs from that year. . LOL!

By the way, "Life Is Beautiful" reminds me of a friend I lost 10 years ago. She'd just turned 19 years old that March, and had just been accepted into pharmacy school at the same university that her older brother and older sister graduated from. She was on top of the world that spring, especially when she, her brother, her sister, her sister's boyfriend, her two cousins and I all took a trip to California that May.
Less than a month later, on an idle Wednesday morning, she was driving to work, westbound on a rural, four-lane, divided arterial highway, in the passing lane, about to overtake an 18-wheeler in the right lane when a dark-colored sports car quickly passed her on the right, and then cut right in front of her as it moved to the left.
Her first impulse was to slam on the brakes and turn the steering wheel hard to the left to avoid impacting the other car, but that caused the back end of her car to break loose and slide diagonally across the grass median into the eastbound lanes, at which time the passenger side of her car took a direct, 90-degree hit from a minivan.
The speed limit on that highway was 55 MPH, and the police who investigated the scene estimated that her car was sill moving westbound, sideways, at 45 MPH at the moment of impact. The driver of the minivan said that she set her cruise control to 55 MPH, which means that the absolute velocity of the impact was about 100 MPH.
It was a perfect hit, with the center of the front of the minivan impacting the center of the passenger side of the car at a 90-degree angle. After that, the car rolled three times down a 10-foot embankment off the outer shoulder on the eastbound side of the highway, landing upside-down. The passenger side of the car was pushed almost halfway into the cabin.
Ironically, she did not suffer a single broken bone, or any torn muscle or connective tissue. Instead, she suffered a concussion so severe that she was likely put in an instant coma. The passenger side of the car was pushed so far into the cabin that her head slammed off the front passenger-side door at the moment of impact.
I was taking classes at a nearby college that summer, and the first summer session was fast coming to a close. I had nothing better to do immediately after class, so I went bowling for an hour or two, and arrived home around dinnertime. It was a rather uneventful day to that point, and I was completely oblivious to what happened that morning until I saw 10 missed calls and a voicemail message on my phone.
The voicemail was left by my other friend, her older brother, in panic, telling me that she'd been involved in a car crash and was badly hurt. She'd been airlifted in a coma to a hospital about an hour and a half north of where they lived. I called my friend and told him that I'd pick him up and we'd go to the hospital.
At times I was driving 100 MPH up the Interstate. I wanted to get there as soon as possible. We arrived at the hospital about an hour after I picked him up. Her parents and older sister were already there, as were her aunt, uncle and two cousins. All of them had obviously been crying.
Thankfully, I was able to get an excused absence from class the next day. I spent the night at the hospital with her extended family, and we were all encouraged that sometimes, she'd gently flex her hand whenever somebody would touch it. Sadly, we'd find out that afternoon that our optimism was completely misguided.
The neurologist who had been examining her since she arrived in the hospital noted that she still had some motor functions, but none of them were high motor functions. Her eyes wouldn't even contract whenever he shined a light into them. Even worse, her brain was swelling in her skull, and there was no way for anybody to relieve the pressure.
Late that afternoon, as I listened to her father helplessly try to negotiate a solution with the doctor, I left the hospital, resigned, in a numb fog. I had final exams to study for, and I only got two hours of sleep the previous night, so I could not stay. I had to get home.
Her brother told me the next day that the hospital pulled the plug about 15 minutes after I left.
The funeral was the same day as one of my final exams. Thankfully the exam was scheduled for the morning, though I still had to make a mad dash to the next town to arrive at the funeral on time. The crowd at her funeral was so large that people had to sit outside the church.
When the hearse took her to the cemetery, the large crowd soon followed. By my estimation, there were easily more than 100 people, and possibly even close to 200 people. At one point, when we were paying our last respects, her brother handed the microphone to me and told me to say something.
I told everybody to look around and check out the size of the crowd that came to pay their last respects and say their final goodbyes, and I said that my ultimate wish when my time comes is that my funeral would have even half as many people in the crowd as hers did, because the people who visit you at your funeral are the ones whose world you made a better place. She made the world a better place for everybody who was there that day.
The first several months without her were emotionally exhausting. Everybody who saw her at the hospital dealt with sudden negative mood swings. The start of the fall semester was just a reminder that she was supposed to be in pharmacy school.
That fall, I heard "Life Is Beautiful" on the radio for the first time, and it instantly made me think of my friend.
There's nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home...
It took a funeral to make me feel alive...
The song became a monster hit on rock radio by Christmastime, and kept reminding me that a family I was very close to was about to spend their first Christmas without her. That was the nadir, and Sixx: A.M. set the mood perfectly. Every time I hear "Life Is Beautiful," I think of my friend who died long before her time, and that first Christmas without her 10 years ago.
By the way, another song that reminds me of her is "Suddenly Last Summer" by The Motels. She died on the first day of summer that year, a summer that would break temperature records with its searing heat, but was nonetheless over the moment it began. The dreamy, longing tone of this song brings back distant, foggy, and fond memories of her.
Anyway, I guess I rambled on a bit, but now you know why I love "Life Is Beautiful" so much. Maybe I'll get to see my friend again someday.

That's practically the same reason I love the song. 2008 was the last year I had my mom before her passing, and when I heard the song, it just helped with my Depression. "Will You Swear on Your Lives, That No One will Cry, at my Funeral" was my exact thoughts at the time, thinking nobody would miss me if anything happened...but it was my first time realizing that I wasn't the only one, which gave me a little more fight

If I'm typing in this font, and I'm not hosting the rankdown, you know what that means: It's top ten preview time! As always, if I screwed up somewhere with the stats, please do not hesitate to let me know!
- This is the first top ten appearance for me--er, Red, Alter Bridge, and, of course, aSHES dIVIDE. Alter Bridge, in particular, surprised me, because I thought that "Isolation" made an Active top ten, but it did not. - Metallica are in their second straight Active top ten, after "All Nightmare Long" finished #7 in 2009. Unless "The Ecstacy of Gold" surprises, we'll likely be waiting a while before we see Metallica in another top ten, so let's see if they make their opportunity count. - Stone Sour are in their third top ten, and their first with a song that's not "Say You'll Haunt Me". Corey Taylor is a little less of a stranger to these top tens, having been in a couple of top tens with Slipknot. - Shinedown are in their fourth top ten, and they are making their second appearance with a song that isn't "Second Chance", after "The Crow & The Butterfly" finished #10 in 2010. - The Offspring are in their fifth top ten, and, incredibly, all five appearances are with the same two songs. "Hammerhead" is doing the Alt and Active double, of course, while "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" was in three top tens. - Chevelle is back in an Active top ten. Surprise! This is their eighth top ten appearance in an Active top ten, a staggering number for any band. Of course, Chevelle won the 2016 Active RD with "Joyride", but they've been unable to repeat that feat since. - The Foos doubled up yet again, with "The Pretender" and "Let It Die" now being Foo Fighters' record 13th and 14th top ten appearances in a rock chart rankdown. With "The Pretender" winning the 2008 Alt RD, they have now added a fifth #1 to their record total, and they will be looking to add their 6th #1 tonight.
