I'm well aware that it'll go gold or platinum. But from my own observations Luke Bryan isn't the hot selling item he once was. Well, for every artist, that’s extremely hard to maintain. And as mainstream Country fans continue to march to streaming (where it’ll eventually dominate), that’ll offset physical sales (like it is with singles). I feel like I'm repeating myself here. I'm well aware of that as well. My point is this. The Luke Bryan in 2017 isn't as popular as the Luke Bryan in 2014.

Country streaming is nowhere near as prominent as other genres so that theory must be taken lightly. We can't say album sales are down across the board when artists like Old Dominion, Thomas Rhett, Jon Pardi, and Kelsea Ballerini see INCREASES in sales. Maybe the older artists need to 1) step up their game, 2) stop trend-chasing and 3) make more interesting music.

#1 country, #1 top 200 album with 99,000 sold. Congratulations, Luke Bryan! Yikes. What a drop off from his last album's opening week (345,000 for Kill the Lights). "Light It Up" did not sell this album and definitely killed a lot of his hype/momentum leading into the new record. Even with sales naturally decreasing over time for most artists, he should've at least done about 50k-100k more given his star power and that it was a Q4 release imo (his last one came out during the summer).

I definitely agree that Luke should have sold more, but I wonder if he's the type of artist that would actually sell more with a summer release than a winter release. I wonder if the hype and momentum he would get from a summer stadium tour would be bigger than the hype and momentum from a Q4 release.

Artists don't typically launch their stadium tours before their album is released though, no? Like is that what he did last time or...? Cause I get what you're saying, but I still think "Light It Up" being a dud by his standards impacted him more than releasing later in the year did. If this album had dropped in August on the heels of "Light It Up" as a lead single, I still think it would've underperformed.

But, I agree with everything you said about "Light It Up". I just think that in general, an artist like Luke would do better releasing in the summer.
