The second single off 2013's Prism, it underperformed, missing the top 10 in the US and the top 20 in the UK.
I get why it wasn't big looking back, but it really grew on me after underwhelming at first, especially the backing music.

Meh, it's one of the better songs on Prism, but it kind of fades into the background for me. I think Legendary Lovers or International Smile would have been a much better choice for the second single if I'm honest.

One of the better songs on Prism but ideally not the best pick for a 2nd single Especially when you have Legendary Lovers, Birthday, Dark Horse,Walking On Air, & International Smile on the same album

Really like this. The music video is great and the despite missing the top 20 in the UK, it went silver (200k+ sales) and regularly gets used as background music on TV shows in the UK.

The music video is stunning, the song itself was quite good, but just as good as many tracks in PRISM indeed. I get why PRISM is overlooked in comparison to Teenage Dream, but I think that tracks like Unconditionally, Ghost, Double Rainbow, Walking On Air and Legendary Lovers were wayyyy stronger than Teenage Dream album fillers.

Urghhh awful single choice! ANY other song on Prism would have been a better option.
It's just such a bore. If they wanted a ballad It Takes Two was miles better. I'm sure most disagree...I Just hate the chorus so much.

Without a second thought, my favorite Katy Perry song ever. Also, the only song since 2013 that I absolutely loved from the first listen and I knew it was going to be one of my all time favorites.
PS: It is the third longest-running #1 song on my chart ever with 14 weeks at #1! Just wanted to say this lol.

Unpopular opinion, but I loved this when it came out and was glad it was chosen as the second single. I thought it would've been another number 1 for Katy.
I especially love the production- it's beautiful.

Glad to see this actually get some love here. This song is gorgeous and might be the last Katy single I truly loved.

This was an awful single choice. It was such a misstep in her career.

Terrible single choice. Pretty video though. But once someone started the Uncle Deshawn Ali joke, I could never seriously listen to it again.

This is one of the weirdest cases where I didn't care about a song when it was released, but I ended up liking it (and growing on me) after a longer period of time. I guess the reason of this was because I went straight to "Dark Horse" and I didn't give "Unconditionally" a chance because of the aforementioned, although I wish I would have to.

"Unconditionally" was sandwiched in between two huge hits so it's easy to forget it. The public wanted DH after "Roar" and the label had no choice but to sever ties with this gem.

This was Katy's personal choice for a follow-up, which she had earned at that point... but "Roar" then "Dark Horse" then this would have been a much better path.
Tbh that era was full of wasted potential.

This is such a gem in her catalogue. It feels weird to say because it felt out of date based on radio trends at the time, but 7 years later, I personally think it's aged better than most of her big hits.

I have so many lovely memories of this song. At the time, I had to walk half a mile from the bus station to my office and this song fit so well with walking through the brightly colored autumn leaves in the park I would walk through.
But I do agree that they should have waited to send this third after DH did its thing. I think that would've set up the Prism era to do better, but somehow they just couldn't recapture lightning in a bottle with the single choices despite many strong tracks on Prism.
