also of note is that "swang" is (I believe) the first song to make a year end chart in canada to not make the top 40, it only peaked at #41

Woah how'd Location flop in Canada? Isn't Khalid Canadian? no he isn't, "location" didn't do too badly though (it peaked at #48) considering how I don't think it got much airplay over here honestly though it's weird to me how little canada-only hits there are in this list, "reminding me" I think is the only one there lmao

Canada Hot 100 3 Closer The Chainsmokers Featuring Halsey Almost I Gotta Feeling level (year end #1 in 2009, #10 in 2010). A little surprised it was higher in Canada than US but glad that it was. I think it's only the 2nd song in Canadian chart history to be top 10 both years after IGF.

Chained to the Rhythm and Malibu were so much more successful in Canada (#34 and #44 year end) than US (#73 and #89 year end).
And Congratulations only peaked at #14, but managed #17 on the year end! Pretty impressive.
And for those curious, The Weeknd's Starboy spent 8 weeks at #2, 7 weeks at #1, and 17 weeks overall in the top 3 (#32 for 2016 YE, and #6 for 2017 YE, pretty impressive!)
It's these small differences that make me really appreciate having a Canadian chart lol.

Another interesting tidbit: Love on the Brain and Chained to the Rhythm basically had opposite performances in US and Canada ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) Love on the Brain - #33 US, #73 CAD Chained to the Rhythm - #73 US, #34 CAD

Unforgettable was huge in Canada - 27 weeks in the top 10 (only beaten by Shape of You and Despacito!)
Find it funny how Selena (Bad Liar - #11 CAD vs. #20 US) and Miley's hits (Malibu #4 CAD, #10 US) did much better in Canada than US, while Demi's did the opposite (Sorry Not Sorry peaked at #18, while it was #6 in US).

Also, Jon Bellion's All Time Low is #75 on both charts (CAN & US).

The Chainsmokers are the only artists that repeated as lead artist in the top 10 of the Hot 100 in both 2016 and 2017 Year-End, with 2 songs (yeah, Closer was in both years as we all know) in each. Justin Bieber did repeat in the top 10, but with Despacito as a featured act. Rihanna with Wild Thoughts also repeated in the top 20.

The addition of streaming in late 2014 also helped shift the power balance hard away from Canadian-focused acts since now the metric that benefitted them the most only accounted for 1/3 of the chart on a good week. The combination of factors manifest themselves pretty hard when you compare the year-end lists:
2013: It's a Beautiful Day, One in a Million, Kiss You Inside Out, Stutter, Here's to Never Growing Up, Breathing Underwater, Crazy All My Life, True Colors (Charity Single), Anything, I Was a Fool, Kiss Goodnight, Closer, What I Wouldn't Do, Red Hands, This is What it Feels Like (feat. Trevor Guthrie), Inner Ninja, Stompa
3 Top 20 YE, 5 Top 40 YE, 17 Top 100 YE
September 2014: Streaming added to formula
2014: Satisfaction Guaranteed, Higher, Fall, Wonder, Move Like a Soldier, Don't Kill the Magic, Seeya, We Are Stars, Jealous (I Ain't With It), Heaven in Our Headlights, Chills, Anything, Goodbye, Hideaway, Crazy for You,
0 Top 20 YE, 3 Top 40 YE, 15 Top 100 YE
Summer 2015: The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes begin to rise to worldwide consciousness
Fall 2015: Drake gets worldwide-big with his pop stuff, Justin Bieber finally asserts chart dominance worldwide, and Alessia Cara breaks through the US
2015: Better to Be Loved, Let Your Hair Down, I Really Like You, Bungalow, Jackpot, No Way No, 2 Heads, Rule the World, Sound of Your Heart, Something Big
0 Top 20 YE, 1 Top 40 YE, 10 Top 100 YE
2016: Hello, Might Not, Lose Control, Lay You Down Easy, Fireproof, Spirits, 2 Heads, Wild Things
0 Top 20 YE, 1 Top 40 YE, 8 Top 100 YE
2017: Portland, Party Monster, Reminding Me, Friends, 2U, Signs
0 Top 20 YE, 0 Top 40 YE, 6 Top 100 YE
Note that on the 2017 list especially, all the songs except Reminding Me were hits in America, just not year-end tier hits.

Can anyone tell me which issue of Billboard is the 2017 Year-in-Music issue? Looking at the issue descriptions on Billboard.biz, the December 16th issue is billed as the Grammy Nominations Guide. The, just released, December 23rd issue also says nothing in the product description about this, either. Last year's year-in-music issue was the issue dated December 17, 2016.

^No way because of LWYMMD. If look hadn’t come around then yeah, but look had 3 weeks on top and that was when desp. Was plummeting. It wouldn’t have mattered. LWYMMD week 2 was 60k and Despacito was around 46k. It could have easily been at #1 with stronger airplay

Having found PDF versions of, both, the 12/16 and 12/23 issues, they have ads for the year-in-music issue stating that it will be available December 22nd (making it the December 30th issue, this year...later than usual). We'll find out in a few days. I've been buying the year-in-music issues every year since 1994. It might be "old news", by now, but it's kind of a tradition.
