Pulse Rankdown: 2017 Year End Triple A Chart (Not Revealing)

HERE'S THE SPREADSHEET WITH ALL THE INFO ON THE RANKDOWN!

1) PM me (peacebone ) the top 100 best radio format Triple A songs of 2017, all ranked to your preference. (e.g. if you like a song the most, rank it the highest and vice versa).
2) The points a song has will be totalled up based on an inverse point system. So if you rank a song #100, it gets 1 point, and if you rank a song #1, it gets 100 points. All the points from the participants will be totalled up.
3) The due date for submission is January 19, 2018, Friday, 10PM Eastern Time. No extensions will be given.
4) ALL songs must be ranked.

Here I am again, at the helm of another rankdown after the wonderful experience that was hosting the 2008 Alt rankdown. I am absolutely honored to be hosting a rankdown for my favorite radio format, a format that loves to make bold choices and play lots of underrated gems and heavily acclaimed artists that would otherwise never get any radio play whatsoever (outside of college radio, maybe).

As far as hosting goes, you should generally know what to expect here if you followed along with 2008 Alt. Ballot updates will be posted after every three lists, as usual.

This is a list that should have something for just about everyone. Once again, I absolutely look forward to seeing all of your rankings and (hot) thoughts on this excellent selection of songs!

So far I'm not as thrilled with this list as some others are. Granted there are several songs in my top 20 that weren't on the Alt rankdown, as well as a number of high rankers that did better on AAA and Alt. And there are slightly fewer songs that seriously annoy me. But just like with the Alt list, there's a whole lot of "meh". 2016 AAA was better.

Having some technical issues that are preventing me from opening Excel (and now I'll have to wait until Tuesday as I'll be away from home until then), so I probably won't be posting an actual ballot update until then. I do have enough lists to do one though. (I've gotten lists from Daryl the Beryl, wheatsquares33, and Troy...as well as my list, of course)

There is an interesting coincidence that I'll go a bit more into detail about when I do post it.

I've gotten back home, Excel is now working again...so let's start our first BALLOT UPDATE (for this rankdown)!

Our first three submitters (besides myself) are three regulars who usually submit early in the submission process: Daryl the Beryl, wheatsquares33, and Troy. (Don't worry, rockmandattebayo, your list will kick off the next Ballot Update.)

• The #1 at the beginning of the submission process* stayed there after wheatsquares33's list, only to be replaced with a new #1 after Troy's list. It's currently running away with the win by 31 points.
• Six songs have stayed in the top 10 for the entire submission process so far. Two of these have stayed in the top 5.
• The top 15 have at least 300 points.
• The song with the current highest standard deviation is at #31.
• The #100 has not changed since the beginning of the submission process.
• Seven songs have stayed in the bottom 10 for the entire submission process so far. Four of these have stayed in the bottom 5.
• The bottom 4 have yet to reach 50 points. The bottom 11 have not reached 100 points.
• Interesting coincidence - all four submitters so far have ranked a particular song at the exact same spot. Obviously, it currently holds the lowest standard deviation.

And of course, what would a Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...ties? As you can expect at this very early point, there's a whole bunch of them. We currently have ties at #8, #14, #28, #35, #37, #51, #63 (a four-way tie), #68, #75, #78, and #88.

* - As in the '08 Alt rankdown, the "submission process" as it is referred to in Ballot Updates starts from the point that I received the first list other than mine (which I always complete before announcing the rankdown). That being Daryl the Beryl's list, in both cases.

2016 is the only year that my song of the year charted. In 2012 it was Why Am I The One By Fun which flopped. In 2013 it was Gun by CHVRCHES which wasn’t a single. In 2014 it was Ain’t Got Nobody By Weezer Which was on the most criminally overlooked Weezer album ever. In 2015 it was Let It Happen By Tame Impala which would never hit the radio. But in 2016 it was Dark Necessities Which was a big hit on alt and active so I guess that counts for something. And this year it was Same Logic/ Teeth Which after the allegations against Jesse I highly doubt they’ll ever get radio play ever again.

I'll be honest, I hope that people who don't like folk music / slower music just sit this one out. I don't feel like seeing people tank songs because 'they're too boring' or 'too much folky vibes'.

There's quite a few songs on here that I think are outstanding, but we're just going to see people that don't understand the format tank them because they're too boring for them and not upbeat enough. Ex. The Lumineers are going to get shafted by some people when they fit this format wonderfully.

Just take into consideration what format you're submitting for. It's the reason I'm probably going to tank some Alternative crossover songs that don't fit this format. Like how in the world did "Something Just Like This" chart here? lol
