So, it may be an unpopular opinion, but I prefer Gucci Gang to Thunder. You have to understand, it is Lil Pump's best song. That, and I at least feel some sort of hype after listening to it, while Thunder is Imagine Dragon's worst song, and it is also just annoying. Like, really, that is it's only quality.

Interesting historical factoid about the Beatles: although I Want to Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, and Please Please Me were their first 3 charting singles, they were NOT their first 3 singles to be released. Please Please Me, From Me to You, and She Loves You were actually their first 3 singles to be released in the US, but only on smaller independent labels and hence failed to chart due to minimal promotion. It wasn't until Capitol first started taking notice of their potential did they chart, picking up IWHYH and propelling it to No. 1, and then SLY and PPM charted after (From Me to You as well, although it missed the top 10).

Considering I hate both songs for the EXACT same reason (lazy, repetitive songs that just take up space on the H100), I don't really have a preference here, but THIS is Lil Pump's best song? I've never heard any other Lil Pump songs, but I know he has a bit of a fanbase. I was hoping he would have another song at least AS good as Gucci Gang. Maybe like a "Tiimmy Turner" to go along with his "Panda", y'know?
Anyway, "Gucci Gang" is a pretty cool and unique song. It's understandably polarizing, and it makes interesting use of repetition. It earns its place on all the "Best of 2017" lists that I've seen it on.
As for "Thunder", it just really isn't my type of song. If it stands out to me at all among other Alternative songs, it's that it's a bit more folksy than average. And I don't consider that an appealing aesthetic.
But that said, it's hard for me to sit here and complain about Thunder when it's not like there are a dozen Alternative songs on the chart. I'll let them have this one, y'know. No need to get mad at them "taking up space" when the genre doesn't actually take up very much space.

Okay, don't get me wrong, I'm not the biggest fan of Khalid. But why did Young Dumb and Broke have to become a hit, when Silence is a way better song? His voice suits Silence so well, I hope it doesn't keep falling. :sip2: YD&B is catchier and simpler to lyrically connect with than Silence. Also, YD&B isn't competing with another current Khalid pop single, while Marshmello is also pushing Wolves and put out that Bright song with Migos recently. |

Justin certainly has enough power to get a #1 debut. It will depend on a few factors, but it isn't unreasonable. Let's hope he brings the heat! Yeah, even if it doesn't debut at #1, it could very well get there during Super Bowl week. I suspect it'll be the "Million Reasons"-esque highlight of his halftime performance, and look what happened with MR. Things are looking good for JT. |

The only thing working against the number one debut for Justin is his streaming. He clearly kills it with sales (CSTF). Airplay loves him too. But think of every week it almost beat one Dance but lost out because of streaming. Now we have a just as big streaming song. I think the first week at number one will be easy but holding on will be hard.

It got a second boost from 12/31 to 1/1 which is best explained according to the theory posted just above this comment. |
