"Cheap Whiskey" is an amazing song!!! The lyrics are so powerful and evocative!! Aaaaand, Patty's version absolutely pales in comparison to Martina's original, so I am thrilled to see it finally leaving... Most of the issue for me comes down to production. If Patty had covered this song on one of her real albums, it probably would have had an opportunity to rival Martina's. But unfortunately she chose to turn it into a bluegrass song, which imo sucked out every ounce of emotional power from the song. Martina's version is so good because the dark production and her vocal work together to sell the message behind the song. Whereas Patty is just singing another song with a banjo. I'm impressed that "House Of Cash" was able to last so long! As a song from one of George Strait's albums, it had a heavy disadvantage even if Patty's part is equal to George's. The George Jones duet had no business outlasting this one, imo, other than the fact that it was a big hit so maybe more are familiar with it? "Can't Get Enough" is so catchy! I am also surprised to see it last this long. But what in the world is with the awkward break in the title though? Like, why would you take a perfectly good song and just choose to make it 100x more polarizing? This song actually came on my radio a couple months ago, and I thought something was wrong with my radio (How awesome to hear Patty on the radio at all, though!) "The Trouble With The Truth" was pretty good. But I must say that I was a little disappointed with it just because of how strong everything around it was. On an album era that also contains "You Can Feel Bad", "Lonely Too Long", and "She Drew A Broken Heart", "The Trouble With The Truth" just doesn't stand out. I remember wishing I could rank it higher, but I just couldn't do it. "That's The Kind Of Mood I'm In" is SO good, and I definitely underranked it! (Even though I got a perfect ranking ) Anyway, I definitely did not appreciate this song as much as I should have at first. I have listened a few times since submitting my list, and this chorus is absolute fire! The only complaint I have is that the production sounds oddly cheap or dated or something, but tbh Patty is an artist for whom that is not entirely unexpected, so it definitely doesn't affect my enjoyment of the song! "You Will"... Same story as "The Trouble With The Truth". On an album containing the mega-hits "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" and especially "Blame It On Your Heart", followed up immediately by "I Try To Think About Elvis", "Here I Am", "You Don't Even Know Who I Am", and "Halfway Down", "You Will" left literally no impression on me... It just doesn't stack up against her mega-classics from that time period, even if it is a good song! "Keep Your Distance" is just SO good! I was really not expecting to like it as much as I did, because tbh it came at a point in her career when most of her other music tended to be declining in quality. She was losing relevance, but this song screamed HIIIIIT to me when I heard it for the first time in this rankdown. The musical arrangement and vocal performance are absolutely bonkers good! I am so glad it managed to outlast so many other late-career songs to place almost in the top 20, despite being relatively unknown! I can't wait to see how the rest of these results play out! We are pretty much getting down to just the all-time classics that I already knew, and my favorite discoveries that I have had on repeat since submitting my list!

I very much prefer "You Don't Seem To Miss Me," and I know both songs. I like the production on "House of Cash," but in general the songs underwhelms me. I find the play on words with Cash to be overdone in music. I agree. It isn't bad, it just doesn't stand out. The lack of a real hook/chorus may be part of it. All of this!

Finishing up the MCA albums here with her last album for them! Track listing1 ~ "Jealous Bone" (Rick Giles, Steve Bogard) 2 ~ "Nobody Loves You Like I Do" (Kostas) 3 ~ "I Already Miss You (Like You're Already Gone)" (Jim Rushing, Allen Shamblin) 4 ~ "Hurt Me Bad (In a Real Good Way)" (Deborah Allen, Rafe VanHoy) 5 ~ "If You Don't Want Me" (Monte Warden, Emory Gordy Jr.) 6 ~ "I Came Straight to You" (Kevin Welch, John Barlow Jarvis) 7 ~ "If It's the Last Thing I Do" (Phyllis Austin, Doug Gill) 8 ~ "Can't Stop Myself from Loving You" (Kostas, Dean Folkvord) 9 ~ "Waitin' for the Phone to Ring" (Joe Tassi, Bob Tassi) 10 ~ "God Will" (Lyle Lovett) PLACEMENTS: "Hurt Me Bad (In A Real Good Way)" - TBA "Jealous Bone" - TBA "Can't Stop Myself From Loving You" - #49 In 1991 Patty would release her 5th album with the lead single "Hurt Me Bad (In A Real Good Way)" which would prove to be another hit for her, peaking at #3. The 2nd single "Jealous Bone" peaked at #13 and proved less successful than the first single. The 3rd and final single was "Can't Stop Myself From Loving You" and that one was even less successful, peaking at #30. After the release of this album she would leave MCA Records and sign with Epic Records. Emory Gordy, Jr. and Tony Brown produced this album and Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Lyle Lovett, and Deborah Allen all sang background vocals on this album. There are a couple songs that were sent to me that a few different people feel everyone should hear. tim .indulgecountry Troublemaker Tags: George Strait Junkie someguy tim austin Cody Wants Out... dub sbp17 bboat11 .indulgecountry Troublemaker Kanenrá:ke LBTrocks sabre14 jenglisbe

"I Came Straight to You" might have been my #1 here if it had been a single. Easily one of the best things I've heard from her. THAT FIDDLE.

I think had she not left her label I could see this album going to five singles. This song was great and I'm glad you pointed it out because I haven't really listened to her MCA albums all that much prior to this. I knew most of the singles but not the album tracks. Looking forward to doing the Album series with her

Hint for the next elimination: an album will be fully eliminated next! There are 3 Albums with only one song left and they are: Long Stretch of Lonesome, Strong Heart, and On Your Way Home. Which song is leaving next? ("To Have You Back Again", "The Last Thing On My Mind", or "On Your Way Home")

“You Don’t Seem to Miss Me” had 4 top 5 placements and 4 in the bottom 10. WTF? Lol.
For the record, it’s a classic in her catalog!

Here is your Top 16:
"Timber, I'm Falling In Love" "Chains" "I'm That Kind of Girl" "Hurt Me Bad (In A Real Good Way)" "Blame It On Your Heart" "Nothin' but the Wheel" "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" "I Try To Think About Elvis" "Here I Am" "You Don't Even Know Who I Am" "Halfway Down" "You Can Feel Bad" "Lonely Too Long" "She Drew A Broken Heart" "To Have You Back Again" "On Your Way Home"
Which will be the last to miss the Top 15? Someone is about to lose their #3! I will say it is from a '90's album!

At least my #1 narrowly outlasted LBTrocks' #1. That's what you get for tryna tank my favorite, heaux! :kii: Seriously though I can't believe "A Thousand Times a Day" wasn't a bigger hit for her during her prime. To me it is INCREDIBLE. It does feel like despite its chart peak, it held up as well or better than several of her higher charting performances though. Like I used to hear it occasionally on the radio, though not as much as her major hits obviously. It's the song that truly hooked me on her from the moment I first heard it.

What song are you most shocked to see in the Top 15? What song are you most surprised did not make the Top 15? Only 1 more #1 ranked song will be eliminated before the Top 10, which song will it be? Two albums will be eliminated within the next 5 eliminations, which albums will they be? Which five songs will miss the Top 10?

A bottom 5 rank for "Nothin' but the Wheel"? Omg WAT?! No way. This song is a masterpiece! :'(
What song are you most shocked to see in the Top 15? Thought "To Have You Back Again" would've been gone by now. What song are you most surprised did not make the Top 15? "Nothin' but the Wheel" ... wow </3 Only 1 more #1 ranked song will be eliminated before the Top 10, which song will it be? Hmmm... gonna guess "I Try to Think About Elvis" maybe? Two albums will be eliminated within the next 5 eliminations, which albums will they be? Long Stretch of Lonesome and On Your Way Home probably. Which five songs will miss the Top 10? Gonna guess... "To Have You Back Again," "On Your Way Home," "I Try to Think About Elvis," "Lonely Too Long," and "Halfway Down."

#1 ~ "Nothin' but The Wheel"
Guessing this was a mistake, but this would've been a much more appropriate placement for this one tbh.

Edit: Also, the number is still a typo! Isn't this #16? Lol I swear I hit the 6 lmao but obviously I didn't. It is now fixed. This song definitely deserved Top 10 at least and I was shocked with Cody Wants Out... 's bottom 5 ranking. Only person to rank this in their Bottom 20, and LBTrocks is the only other person to rank this lower than 28! Gonna try and post the next 5 tomorrow but I am closing at work and may not be able to so that may have to wait until Friday, which I have off from work so I could do the entire Top 15 if people are gonna be around! I'll try and do better with some hints. Here are some for the next 5 eliminations: When Fallen Angels Fly will FINALLY lose it's first song within the next 5 songs, but which one will it be? One of Patty's 5 #1 hits will leave us and shockingly not make the Top 10!

"You Don't Seem To Miss Me" is a good song, but just a little boring to me. It is one of those songs that I think could have benefited from being like an entire minute shorter.
"Jealous Bone" is an amazing, quintessential classic! I can't believe I had this in my 80s for the 1992 RD! However, as I am familiarizing myself with more of Patty's music, I am also starting to think that I overranked it here... It is definitely deserving of this top 20 placement, but I am not upset to see it leave now.
"A Thousand Times A Day" is a very unique song. The melodic structure feels very odd to me. But it is awesome! I love it so much! The juxtaposition of giving up vices such as smoking and drinking versus giving up on a lover is ripe with effective and well-written imagery. I'm not surprised to see it leave now, but it is VERY good!

There is no such thing as *overranking* "Jealous Bone" Not only is the song 100% my style stylistically, but I listened to it ALL the time in the 90s, so the nostalgia is real. It was a favorite of mine back then and remains a favorite of mine now. It's one of those timeless songs that just never gets old for me, no matter how many times I listen to it!

I feel like I overranked "Halfway Down" now. It still definitely belongs in the top 20 here, but it is one that has stagnated a little bit for me while I have started loving many of her other songs that I ranked lower.
