Originally from the "Booty Call" soundtrack, this doubled as the first single from "Release Some Tension". The song reached #3 on the Billboard Rhythmic top 40 chart. New Zealanders love "Can We"--it went #1 there in 1997!

My favorite SWV song, sad to see it go! This was the first single from New Beginning, with some of SWV's most controversial lyrics, this rose to #5 on the Hot 100 in 1996--fitting, it made it to #5 on that chart and #5 on our chart!

4. "Rain"
After "Someone" and "Lose My Cool" (cancelled) underperformed, the label decided to push the Bryan Alexander Morgan ballad from the album that R&B stations had already begun to spin...that song was "Rain". The song reached #25 on the Hot 100 and #7 on the R&B charts and is one of SWV's most well known songs to date.
This was their final entry on the Hot 100.

That quote would've been around the time I first dived into SWV's discography. Those are still probably my three favorite SWV songs (with Rain overtaking Weak as my favorite), but I've definitely grown to appreciate a lot of their deeper cuts since then.

Those are still probably my three favorite SWV songs (with Rain overtaking Weak as my favorite), but I've definitely grown to appreciate a lot of their deeper cuts since then. I think my favorite part by far of hosting a rank down is searching for fun quotes from years back to see how, or even if, posters views have changed on the songs, especially in the few thread they had for their comeback singles, to see the reactions as people heard the songs for the first time. There are so many deep cuts from them I would rank above their biggest hits and I don't think that would have been the same case for me a couple years back either. |

This is more classic than most of the female R&B group hits of the 90s. The only one I would instantly say is more of a classic than this is "Waterfalls," but I hear this way more than "Waterfalls" on the radio 20 years later. "Weak" was just a very vintage female R&B group ballad. Very simple, melodic, and they gave a fantastic vocal performance.
