Secret can go, but I love Take A Bow. ♥️ She looked gorgeous in the video too.

Ooooh!!! A Bedtime Stories discussion!!
Time to once again shamelessly plug my favorite Madonna B-side, which happens to come from that album cycle.
More seriously though, I wonder if she worries if "Take a Bow" would kill the energy of her live shows too much. She usually does her ballads with a little more energy like "Live to Tell" or "Frozen." I also wonder if she worries about nailing the vocals on TAB, but that's just conjecture.
"Secret" always surprised me because to me it would be easy to put into a medley on tour with a lot of the dramatic imagery and storylines she usually puts together, so it's a little mystifying.
However, I feel like she didn't actually do "Bedtime Story" that often before The Celebration Tour. "Human Nature" seems to be the only thing she really revisits from that era and it's the least like the rest of the album.

Secret can go, but I love Take A Bow. ♥️ She looked gorgeous in the video too. I love BOTH Secret and Take A Bow, and she looked sexy in both videos. I especially love the locations where she had filmed them....in the hood (Harlem) and in Spain. Urban Donna >>>>>

They did release that Record Store Day vinyl of "Causing a Commotion," probably in part because if its absence from Finally Enough Love.
it may not be one of M's favorite songs, though she did sing the chorus at several Celebration Tour stops.

CAC was a personal chart topper and I still like listening to it once in a while. I bought the WTG cassette and used it a lot. Plus I managed to record an extended version from a radio show and also listened to it many many times. I had realized that there was another version with a different cadence of “point of view” in the second verse, which I found a bit weird but interesting :)

Ok, not to age myself too much, but I remember the chart battle between Bad by Michael Jackson and Causing a Commotion by Madonna. I was a Senior in HS when both songs were out in the fall of '87. My friend Laurie and I were in marching band and were avid chart watchers. Both songs were moving up the chart at the same time and I remember having a discussion (during practice) about which song would reach number one that week and we were both convinced it would be Causing a Commotion. Causing a Commotion was stuck at #2 for 3 weeks. Bad lasted two weeks at #1 and when it fell from #1, CaC stayed at #2 for a 3rd week and Tiffany jumped to #1 from #3 with I Think We're Alone Now. We were both surprised. It reminds me a situation a couple years later when Toy Soldiers leapt over Express Yourself to go to #1 while EY sat at #2 for a couple of weeks. Here is the Billboard chart from the week Bad went to #1. It jumped from 4-1 and Causing a Commotion jumped from 5-2. Attachments:

MTV has a new category in this years VMA, VMAS Most Iconic Performance. THere are 7 nominees and Madonna is in there twice for Like a Virgin. Obviously her first performance and then the performance with Britney and Christina. Frankly, I rather have seen Vogue get one of those slots rather than Like a Virgin being in there twice. It is a fan vote category, so vote often. VMAs Most Iconic Performance 24 hours of fan voting begins Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. ET on @mtv Instagram Story (1 Round, tap to vote); concludes Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. ET. Beyoncé – “Love on Top” Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, Missy Elliott – “Like a Virgin” and “Hollywood” Eminem – “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am” Katy Perry – “Roar” Lady Gaga – “Paparazzi” Madonna – “Like a Virgin” Taylor Swift – “You Belong With Me” ew.com/mtv-2024-vmas-announce-social-categories-nominees-8704383

That's a tough list because the original LAV is iconic, but LAV/Hollywood and Paparazzi are some of the most memorable award show performances of all time!

Well it certainly can’t go to Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, or Eminem.

The Rebel Heart cover is one of her best, imo.

A visit to my parents house uncovered my original 12” singles from the True Blue era. The back of the Open Your Heart single has my girlie signature on it.

Was thinking about artists who had the #1 song of the year on the year end Billboard charts. Though Madonna is the #1 solo artist and #2 overall artist on the Hot 100 (just behind the Beatles), she has never had the #1 song of the year. She has ranked in the top 10 several times at year end, but never #1. One thing that works against her is that her songs tend to move up and down the charts very quickly with short chart runs. Exceptions being Borderline / Take a Bow at 30 weeks each.
Here are her highest ranked singles on each of the year end charts where she placed:
1984 - Borderline - #35 1985 - Like a Virgin - #2 1986 - Papa Don't Preach - #29 1987 - Open Your Heart - #30 1989 - Like a Prayer - #25 1990 - Vogue - #5 1991 - Justify My Love - #21 1992 - This Used to Be My Playground - #21 1993 - Deeper and Deeper #66 1994 - I'll Remember - #13 1995 - Take a Bow - #8 1996 - You'll See - #51 1997 - Don't Cry for Me Argentina - #87 1998 - Frozen - #32 2000 - Music - #17 2001 - Don't Tell Me - #34 2006 - Hung Up - #91 2008 - 4 Minutes - #23

Yeah unfortunately her songs moved up and down quickly as she was also releasing songs quickly. Then the timing didn’t work either -eg Music. And I wonder if some changes in methodology harmed her, too. Like a prayer ranked too low for such a big hit -whereas Look Away, a song that peaked and had half its chart life in the year 1988, ended up being the #1 song of 1989.

So a 16 on digital song sales has no effect whatsoever on Hot 100 right? Wonder if Radio wasn’t there how it would change the positions.

^Digital sales have less of an impact than radio these days, so probably not much difference.
LAP first charted on Digital Songs following the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show; I think it sold in the neighborhood of 45,000-50,000 to rank No. 38. Whereas at No. 16 recently, it sold around 4,000.
