I agree. I wonder how expensive were the Bruce shows on Broadway. Do you know?
Do you think an album full of collaborations would be the only thing that could sell at this point? But I don't know if songs of hers redone as duets with the biggest names in the business. Or fully new songs all duets?
Or her having some kind of novelty hit with a Tiktok viral thing? But something very original, well thought. But then again, as much as I LOVE her, I don't find her always that that funny when doing comedy.... And the "novelty" thing could backfire and make her look desperate.
For me I would LOVE her to go again for original music without following any mainstream pop trend. Would lover her again to go for amazing underground producers and come with something totally awesome and new. At this point I don't care for chart success anymore. Critical recognition would be great. I would still go see her live in concert at a theatre. Wonder if she would still consider doing stadiums and such ever again.

Critical recognition would be great. I would still go see her live in concert at a theatre. Wonder if she would still consider doing stadiums and such ever again. Springsteen was priced in line with other Broadway shows, generally $150+. However, it was so sold out that most tickets sold over $500 to the thousands on places like StubHub. I do not think she would ever do a duets album. That is the sort of thing that happens with artists who are well past their prime and are a nostalgia act (think Elton John, Sinatra, Streisand, etc.) I do not think Madonna would ever think of herself that way, now or in the future. Though I think it would be a cool project. Maybe in another 10 years? I think the thing that works against her and gives fodder to the internet trolls is when she tries to act like Ariana Grande or any other Gen Z act. The way she dresses at times, her social media posts, and when she tries to be funny (to your point.) Most often it comes across like the biggest stereotype of your drunk aunt who thinks she is funny, but everyone else is cringing. She is at her best when she isn't trying to do anything but be Madonna. Her stage shows are rarely cringey, because she is putting on the best show at being Madonna (naturally sexy, edgy, provocative, etc.) But when I look at her Tears of a Clown shows, I just shake my head. She is not a standup comedian and is not good at delivering punchlines. She is far funnier when she is being interviewed and just answering as herself. Lately, a lot of her fashion choices and social posts feel like she is in "costume." Sometimes she looks great, sometimes I want to tell her to wipe off the overdone makeup and take off the Frankenstein shoes.

I understand not wanting to be a legacy act and be considered old and past your prime, etc, but at the same time, does she not see her lack of chart success from the past 3 albums? Surely she must know she's spending all this money on videos and promotion and whatnot and it's basically not doing anything. She's gotta be the most stubborn lady ever.

I agree with you and much or all of what you say, August. I understand the nostalgia act comment. But perhaps that would apply if she re record her own songs? What about new songs? Hasn't she tried for a good number of years anyway to record songs, share photo shoots, hang out at parties, promote products and do live numbers anyway with the prominent young pop acts around anyway? Meaning: Britney, Justin T., Taylor Swift, Ricky Martin, Katy Perry, Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Kanye, Kim Kardashian, Maluma, Annita, etc etc etc. How different from that would be recording an album with all of them there?

She seems to have switched gears over the past year or so, acknowledging album/single anniversaries, releasing these remix EPS, And now the EPs are so much better now. It looks like they are indeed using Rhino now to help with that process since re-releases and comprehensive releases are their specialty. And her discography has been so neglected in terms of remasters, re-issues, etc. If remasters and expanded editions are something they do for albums, it needs to be done right because there have been so many instances where that process was just severely mishandled for other artists.

Well, I think a lot has to do with her own ego. I remember that she initially refused the honor of being in the UK and US Rock Hall of Fames, as she made some comment that lifetime tribute stuff is for when your career is over or you are old. The problem is that the main consumers in the US music market are skewed way young and they view Madonna as old and out of it. My nephews are 24 and 20 and they barely know who she is and are not familiar with her music. I think when she does appearances or collaborations with younger artists these days, it just does not click these days. I personally would love to see a duets project where they either reinterpret her old work or something else, but I honestly think her ego would stand in the way of that. I also think that the times she has done collabs, with the exception of Justin Timberlake, she tends to choose people who are not that huge or who are not really the right fit for her. Swae Lee, Maluma (he is popular in latin markets, but had not really had a big hit with the U.S. market), etc. I was actually shocked that the collab she did on Levitating with Dua Lipa did not go anywhere. The version that was a hit was the one she did with the rapper (I forget who it was). It is unfortunate. I think the media is vicious to her and sometimes unfairly judges her. If Taylor Swift had recorded Ghost Town in the same arrangement, I guarantee it would have been a massive smash. It is funny, I love all pop music and listen to current and recurrent stuff all the time. I keep forgetting I am 51, but alas, I am ;)

^She was inducted into the Rock and Roll HOF in her first year of eligibility; I hadn't heard about her refusing that one. She did balk at a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, though- didn't like the idea of people "walking on her," supposedly. :) The UK Music Hall of Fame wasn't around for very long; I don't recall her passing that one up, either. Wasn't she in the freshman class?
Dua Lipa's label promoted the version with DaBaby to radio; Lipa's team figured a version with Da Baby would enjoy more mainstream success. Madonna's vocals/participation were more than a "featuring," so it's too bad the label just didn't push the album version with Madonna and Missy Elliott's vocals. Then again, Madonna didn't exactly show much interest (for instance, not appearing in the video for the remix).

Afaik, stars pay $30.000 to have star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is pathetic imo. I'm so glad she doesn't have a star there.

One of the major keys to Madonna’s early success was MTV. And continuing thru the 90s and early 2000s she was still a major presence there. Once that went away and MTV became a channel for reality shows and old reruns of “Friends” her omnipresence in pop culture seemed to fade. The internet & streaming breaks new artists. She also kind of lost her knack for being ahead of the curve & setting the trends. She’s been chasing trends since Hard Candy.
But Madonna being Madonna, she will doubtfully ever want to settle into the mold of “legacy artist”. Last thing I want to see her become is a Caricature though.

Madame X proved that she stopped chasing the trends and for the first time in ages, we saw the artist Madonna somewhere in there. I'm sure she'll release good music as long as she has inspiration. And it's not an easy thing after being on top of the world for almost 40 years.

She has been looking pretty good lately. I saw some pics of her out and about, I think she was wearing a blue (or was it purple?) coat, she looked really nice. This new hair suits her too. Also, it seems she hired someone new to take photos of her or choose the best photos for her to upload or something? lol Either way, good for her! 😜

Queen has been looking good. MX- that's true, as she's one who doesn't love looking back/reflecting. On the subject of American Life, a couple of notes about the club chart- "Nobody Knows Me" didn't reach the top (promoted separately from "Nothing Fails"), and I believe "Mother and Father," which also didn't reach the top, was promoted from a project outside of the main album. So the four main singles (plus "Die Another Day," always planned to be on the album) were the chart toppers. A few songs are closing in on 30 million Spotify plays. I should start using it regularly.
