"Sharing my vision with global audiences has been profoundly meaningful to me. The opportunity to bring its message and the incandescent artistry of all involved to an even wider audience comes at a time when music is so deeply needed to remind us of the sacred bond of our shared humanity."

It's Friday again...you know what that means...a new tracking week...so get your acoustic guitar and start streaming American Life this week. Remember, were working backwards from newest release to oldest.
This album was not a favorite when it first came out, but as the years have gone by, I really like it now. Intervention is beautiful and I like Easy Ride. Don't really hate anything, but American Life as a 1st single was always a head scratcher.
What about you?

I still feel that American Life was a highly underrated album. I never thought it was that bad. Fave tracks are Easy Ride, Nobody Knows Me, Mother and Father, and I'm So Stupid.

Wolfy- that link shows the number of weeks in the top 200; the 354 weeks covers its run in the top 100. Also of note- for a number of years, a rule for "budget albums" kept TIC off the main albums chart, so it lost a good number of weeks there. Not sure what other big albums were affected by that rule.

I am sure Taylor will pass her in the next couple of years. Not sure about Rihanna, as she has not released anything in quite a while and her Hot 100 fortunes have started to wane a bit. Only 6 of her last 16 singles have hit the Top 10.
I feel like Drake should have a big asterisk next to him name, as 16 of his Top 10s are a feature and 10 other ones feature an assist from other artists.
Madonna on the other hand only has two singles that feature another artist, GMAYL and 4M.

Newer artists have an unfair advantage of charting because now when they release new albums every song can chart thanks to streaming. In the 90s album tracks never had a chance of charting.

It does seem that today, it is much "easier" to get a hit and a lot of the songs that come out are almost disposable (unless you are older than 35). Artists come and go much more quickly too, as the streaming world makes it easy to move on to the next thing. Had streaming and / or soundscan been utilized from the beginning of M's career, you probably would have seen some of her songs have much longer runs at #1..particularly monster hits like LAV, LAP, and Vogue. You would have also seen songs like Gambler and Into the Groove chart.

Yes- one really needs to look at top acts up through, say the mid-to-later 2000s, and then that period to the present. How can one compare an era where album tracks could not chart, to an era where they could? Not to mention how ridiculously common collabos and featurings have become during the modern era. Though Billboard accounts for that and more those on its all-time-acts list.

If streaming was around during True Blue, all 8 songs would've debuted inside the Top 10.

Must be the algorithm, but whenever I leave Spotify choose songs to play on its own after having listened to a pop female song, Hung Up comes up ALL the time.

Madonna would have had album bombs with every album probably from Like a Virgin to Confessions. Comparing her number of hits and top ten appearances to artists in the last five years limits what she could have had if the charts operated similarly over time.

Comparing her number of hits and top ten appearances to artists in the last five years limits what she could have had if the charts operated similarly over time. not only that, but deep album cuts like Skin, Sky Fits Heaven, Paradise (Not For Me), Impressive Instant, Nobody's Perfect, Nobody Knows Me, and a PLETHORA of others might have "Dark Horse'd" the actual singles. It really is unfair to compare the artists of today with the 80's and 90's artists. That's why I like to stick to Mediabase.

Today is Friday...you know what that means...a new tracking week...so put your cowboy boots on and start streaming MUSIC this week. Not really one of my favorite albums, will listen to every track. The best for me is Amazing, Runaway Lover, Music, Impressive Instant. I know for some, those are their least favorite!

Ah yes Music. Nominated for 5 Grammys with first week sales of 420,000 copies, making it her first album to top the chart since Like A Prayer.
My picks: What it Feels Like for a Girl Gone Amazing Don’t Tell Me Paradise (not for me)

On the one hand, she had hits that could’ve performed much better, likely top 10s: Beautiful stranger, American pie, You must love me; or higher due to their strong videos: Human nature, Bedtime story, American life, Me against the music She could’ve had other singles chart: for sure Gambler, Into the groove, Where’s the party, Spotlight, Fever Maybe Dear Jessie (a UK single), Love song (just for curiosity a duet with f’ing Prince!), Sooner or later (viral Oscar performance); some due fo their videos: Drowned world, Hollywood, I want you, Over and over, Love makes the world go round, Bye bye baby as popular album cuts.

In the UK, The Immaculate Collection jumps 12 spots to No. 85; this is its 355th week inside the top 100. On the Albums Streaming chart, it climbs 15 spots to No. 70, a new peak; this is its 19th week on the chart.
Thanks for regularly poasting the Spotify info here, areyouready. Most songs in the top 30 saw gains.

I always forget that La Isla was a much bigger hit outside the US, which is why it keeps showing up as her most streamed song WW more often than not. It hit #4 in May 1987 (3 weeks) but was #1 in many, many countries. In fact, it was the #1 song of the year on the European chart (measures across all of Europe).
I have always liked the song, but I must admit, I re-visit it far less frequently than the rest of her catalog from that era. She has just played it so many times on tour and neglected so many others, that I am just a little tired of it. However, I applaud the longevity. Anything that keeps M streaming is fine in my book.
