Has anyone purchased the “Celebration” DVD? I’m wondering what quality the videos are.
I purchased the “ Madonna: The Video Collection 93-99” on VHS back in the day, but I want the full collection, because let’s be honest, she’s the video QUEEN.

By the time the tour starts, I am sure her hair will be back to blond, she will have eyebrows again, and will be back to her classic makeup. I think she is playing around with her look right now becsuse she has the time to have some fun right now.

So there's people saying Madonna looked unrecognizable at the Grammys and like...huh? Yes, she has had a lot of work done but in what world can you not tell that was Madonna? I honestly find the confusion funny lol. All this reminds me of how they used to trash Cher over her plastic surgery, she then said this famous quote: "If I want to put my tits on my back, it's nobody's business but my own."

I honestly find the confusion funny lol. Eh, it's Madonna being Madonna aka getting people to talk about her, which helps break through the clutter. If Madonna looked *normal* - most would never know she was on the Grammys. None of this noise changes anything. Fans are still fans. Her tour will be massive. Whatever she does to her body is her prerogative - even though I believe she would've aged beautifully naturally. It's super-bizarre that it's been 11 years since M's last US Top 10/(Top 80!) hit. I thought for sure she'd get hits via major features.

I thought the quality is good but I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I've never noticed anything off with the videos when I've watched them through the DVD. I do like the tracklist of the DVD set though as it includes some of my favourites that didn't make the Celebration CD version. Overall, the whole Celebration collection (CD/DVD/Vinyl) is iconic in my eyes.

I think the difference is Cher also got press for looking amazing for her age, not Pete burns comparisons, though I do agree with Cher’s quote; it’s their business what they wanna do with their bodies. I think Madonna could have aged gracefully and would have been celebrated given her idgaf attitude, but she made different choices and that’s fine for her.

This is what the younger gay populations fails to get. They fail to realize the roads that were open to them by the voices of people like Madonna, Harvey Fierstein, Harvey Milk, the generation who first faced the AIDS crisis in the 80s, those who stood up for themselves at Stonewall, etc. I am happy that GLAAD is sticking up for Madonna. It wasn't so long ago that someone like Kim Petras or Sam Smith would have had no shot at a label contract, let alone winning a Grammy. Remember when Elton John was married to a woman to hide who he was? Remember what a huge controversy it was for David Bowie to play with gender norms? The level of vitriol I have seen thrown at Madonna these past few years is absolutely disgusting. She has always been a target...in the beginning it was because she was too sexual / sexy..now it is because she is not sexy enough and looks old, has had surgery, etc. Lets say she never touched her face, her body, her ass, etc. The fact that they are comparing a 64 year old women to what she looked like at 25 and complaining that she doesn't look the same? For f*cks sake.

Also, some use unflattering angles/shots of M from that night, when she looked perfectly fine in others, and in the backstage video. Of course you can tell it's Madonna- well, unless you're unaware of what she's looked like in recent years. Most 64-year-old women don't wear their hair that way, dress that way, etc. etc. But we know M's not the typical 64-year-old woman. I agree that she will probably be back to blonde and looking more in line with what people think looks like Madonna. I also have the Celebration DVD- it serves the purpose well. Some of the soundtrack videos have notes at the end about where they come from, but better to have that on there than not have them at all.

Madonna portrays this flawless looking youthful image on social media and when people see the real M it's not the same and they react. She's had A LOT of work.

^But her social posts are filtered up the wazoo and look a lot less like her.
Rock on, as always, M.

Every single artist, performer, public figure does face filtering on their social media. If you think someone like Beyonce, Mariah, Gaga, etc look like they do if their Instagram pics, you are very mistaken. There were very public before and after photos of Beyonce showing her acne and other imperfections before her face was photoshopped for her instagram. Gaga has had her nose slimmed and waist cinched in photos, etc. For some reason the focus is always on Madonna because she is more outspoken, dares to show her body, or dare she age.
I find the attacks on anyone absolutely ridiculous. Also, the general public should be smart enough to see that every celebrity photograph has been retouched.

This is hyperbole as the halftime show was definitely 'a thing' before Madonna did it; this acts like the Prince, Michael Jackson, etc halftime shows were meaningless (not to mention the coverage the Janet Jackson show got, though that was notable in a different way of course). I mean this is also hyperbole since the main talk has been Beyonce losing/Harry winning AOTY (as well as Bonnie Raitt winning Song, and then some other items)...but ok. Madonna certainly deserves praise for many things, and it was lovely seeing Kim Petras give her props at the Grammys. Out of that, there is no need for fans to also go overboard with statements that aren't really true since there is enough to mention that is actually true.

It’s refreshing that so many in the media are coming forward in her defense. Madonna can’t win when it comes to her appearance The pop icon’s presence at the Grammys on Sunday night led to insults and criticism across the internet but it’s also nothing new for her, writes Ellie Muir. Her face, body, arms and hands have long been fair game for misogyny and faux concern – will it ever stop? www.independent.co.uk/life-style/madonna-grammys-plastic-surgery-b2277507.htmlOn Sunday night, Madonna appeared at the Grammy Awards wearing an outsized black tuxedo, her eyebrows bleached platinum blonde and her cheeks plumped and smooth. Everyone lost it. Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter: “Looks like she had a face transplant”; “Madonna received the ‘New Face’ award at the 2023 Grammy Awards!”; “Not the Madonna I remember.” By Monday morning, numerous news outlets had dubbed Madonna “unrecognisable” and were busy ringing up plastic surgeons to ask their opinions on a woman they’d never actually treated. That the reaction has been entirely critical of the 64-year-old pop icon is unsurprising – Madonna has long been a punching bag for the apparent crimes of not being young, publicly expressing her sexuality and not looking the same as she did half a century ago when she first became famous. This is no exaggeration. In 1993, a Smash Hits magazine spread printed the words “Calm down Grandma!” over a picture of the musician performing at Wembley Stadium. She was 35 at the time. This treatment has continued, ad nauseam, through every phase of Madonna’s career. In the 2000s, she was lambasted for her arms, with American gossip site TMZ describing them as “bloodcurdling veiny corpse arms”. In another post, they were dubbed “gruesomely muscled arms [that] appear to have been reassembled with the bony remains of a dead cow”. In the music video for her 2006 track “Sorry”, she roller skates with an entourage of young and gorgeous male dancers. Many of the visuals from the song’s parent album, her disco throwback Confessions on a Dancefloor, show Madonna, then aged 47, in a high-rise leotard, rolling around in a dance studio and meeting up in alleyways with objectively ripped dancers. This was nothing particularly interesting for that era of music videos, yet she was still berated for being “too old” for such imagery. By 2016, criticism of Madonna’s appearance had migrated down to her hands, which tabloids declared were too “veiny” and “wrinkly”. Few weeks seem to go past without Madonna drawing mockery or abuse for how she looks. Earlier this month, TV host Lorraine Kelly brutally likened the star’s face to a “boiled egg”, while Piers Morgan – who has always had a very odd revulsion for Madonna – claimed that she’d become “the most grotesque, trainwreck embarrassment in the history of world entertainment”. It’s long been acceptable to say incredibly vicious things about her in public, with few celebrity figures ever leaping to her defence. Ultimately, it seems that we like older women to be devoid of individuality or agency, and refuse them the right to be wild, unpredictable or risk-taking. Women who refuse, as Madonna always has, to sit down and be quiet. That’s why critics like Morgan are continually enraged by Madonna’s expressive presence on social media, or describe her modern work as strained or calculated rather than a natural extension of her interests: she’s recently experimented with musical genres like rap and Cape Verdean batuque, while her latest single “Back That Up to the Beat” was released in a sped-up tempo for maximum TikTok appeal. It went viral. She also continues to work with younger artists, lately the bisexual Dominican rap sensation Tokischa, who is 38 years her junior. What’s also striking about Madonna’s boxing match with ageist standards of sexual expression is that she’s one of the first pop icons to age in front of us so publicly. While many famous singers may retire into lives of tranquility or live off re-releases of old hits – many of her most culture-shifting peers, such as Prince, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston are also long dead – Madonna remains a working artist still interested in pushing sonic boundaries and working with fresh voices. And so what if she’s still doing it while slithering across the floor? In true Madge fashion, the musician seems unphased by the criticism hurled at her. In a New York Times interview published in 2019, she suggested that journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis was too fixated on the concept of age. “Stop thinking,” she told her. “Just live your life and don’t be influenced by society trying to make you feel some type of way about your age or what it is you’re supposed to be doing.” Much to the dismay of Madonna’s critics, this has always been her approach: be stubborn, be steely, never crumble in the public eye. Of the criticism of her presence on Instagram, Madonna compared it to a “crime”: “You can’t win [as an older woman] – an ass [photograph] will get you more followers but it will also get you more detractors and criticism. You’re in that funny place.” But she’s also been in that “funny place” for the far majority of her career – a 35-year-old in her bra dubbed “grandma”, now a 64-year-old dubbed “a boiled egg”. Through all that criticism, she’s shrugged. Good for her.

That SB tweet isn’t exactly wrong. The excitement around the halftime show died after the Janet scandal because we got nothing but boring performers for years. There was never any speculation or excitement over who was gonna do the halftime show. Nobody cared. Then Madonna was announced and I vividly remember it being a big deal because finally someone huge (and controversial) was doing the show again and people were excited. It was also the most elaborate halftime show we had seen. I mean, the production and set pieces alone were insane and nothing like I’d seen in past halftimes. It set the tone on how big and elaborate the production had to be for future performers. After Madonna performed, it then became a thing of “Who’s next!?” and people looking forward to it again.

The press talked about what you mentioned more, but people on social media talked more about Madonna's face. I noticed and thought about posting about it, but I didn't because she was trending on twitter for something negative. On the day of the event people talked about the show, but for the next two days the top trending moment from The Grammy's was her face. In fact, the next day Madonna's face was the only trending topic from the Grammys. The lasting impression from the Grammys was the controversy over Madonna's face. It's sparked all sorts of debates over plastic surgery and ageism. Even today, lots of people are still talking about her: The controversy is all over social media, not just twitter. Everywhere I look I find people talking about Madonna. She's also all over Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/10xb5p1/oh_honey/And... the controversy over her face got people to stream her music:

Man... I'm tired already of the news about Madonna's appearance at the Grammy! Every time I go to Facebook or Instagram there's a new article about it. People are being really nasty with her with comments and memes. For M to write a response to all this, she must have been really pissed and disappointed. She must have been feeling fabulous and so confident and sure about her Art Basel look to decide to do it again. I guess she didn't expect this reaction. I know I know, she's strong and all and this will go down in history as one of the hundreds of incidents of its kind, but deep inside here and there she's shown before her vulnerable part and this one really pissed her off (and perhaps hurt her even though she can hide it well). She's human after all.
