FInally Enough Love has held up decently in UK streaming- 12 weeks on the streaming top 100, without getting any higher than No. 48.

Fever (Edit Two)??? I didn't know that was a thing! It is essentially the video mix of the song. It was also featured on the European maxi-single of Fever back in 1993. I always forget that the maxi of Rain featured this great sultry remix of Waiting. Far superior to the album version in my opinion.

Just a little random tidbit.
Madonna was sued by Arabic singer, Fairuz, over an unauthorized sample of an Arabic Christian song in Erotica. It is a Christian Hymn sung on Good Friday and is called "El Yom 'Ulliqa 'Ala Khashaba." I am not a particularly religious person, but I do find certain religious music relaxing and therapeutic (Arabic, Baroque, Gregorian chants, etc). I am Greek Orthodox and the music is reminiscent of the music / chanting in our church.
Someone on Youtube did a comparison between Erotica and the original song. Aside from the fact that you recognize the sample from Erotica, I also realized the sample was used again during the Beast Within opening on the Reinvention Tour. I always felt it was reminiscent of Erotica, but I didn't realize it was the exact same sample. Take a listen:

I know it's a fact that Madonna redid the vocals for DCFMA remix, but when I heard the Waiting remix yesterday, is it more, or is there a new verse or a line or two that is not in the original?

^I don't recall any lyrics not heard on the album version. Of course, Everlast's rap was new. I forgot about that unauthorized "Erotica" sample. Definitely worked well i the context of the track.

Spotify news:
"4 Minutes" (Celebration Version) has now surpassed 200 MILLION streams on Spotify.
If the Hard Candy album and Celebration album versions were combined, the total would be 235+ million streams.

I have watched Madonna's speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame many times over the years. I just love hearing her give a sincere and heartfelt speech about her career / life. I remember she was inducted on her first year of eligibility, unlike a lot of other fantastic women who had been overlooked at the time. She got a lot of criticism initially, because a lot of the "true" musicians did not respect her as a musician and viewed her as fluff and just a provocateur, but did not respect her musicianship.
Listen to her speech and you will see how much she emphasizes her development as a musician specifically. She talks about learning to play guitar / drums, songwriting, respected clubs she played at (CBGB's, Max's Kansas City), her producers (though neglects to mention Stephen Bray), etc. She mentions, but only briefly, that she came to NYC as a dancer. The speech is mostly about music and being a musician. I think it was a shrewd move on her part and a way to say that she does belong there and she is not just a woman who makes videos and takes her clothes off. Great speech.

By my count, these are the maxi singles not yet released to streaming. I'm wondering if they're holding off on the ROL and AL singles for next year, since that's the 25th & 20th anniversaries of those respective albums.

August- I interviewed the sole remaining member of Foghat recently. We were talking about the Rock Hall (the act is not in) and how some inductees aren't rock. I mentioned Madonna, and he said, "Are you kidding me? Madonna's f***ing great." :) I remember as far back as the '90s, some in the alternative/rock community singing her praises. I think they liked the music, but especially admired and respected how she approached her work, with a rock-and-roll spirit. Of course, there will always be purists who think the Rock Hall should just be rock music- that, or have the name changed.

The gripe I was hearing was a combination that she wasn't rock AND that she wasn't a "musician." Just some dance pop singer who had no real musical talent. Well, she got in on her first year of eligibility and shaped pop divas for years to come (Sorry Cardi B, it is true.)

rock 'n roll is an attitude, and Madonna fits the bill quite easily. Of course she would get nominated the second she was qualified.

Fever (Edit One) is the version used in the video and in the European Rain 4-track single that I bought specifically to get that mix. I was so disappointed the mix wasn't included on 'Bad Girl' US Maxi-Single. I'm guessing there's other configurations that included Two. Fever (Edit Two): exactly the same video mix, but 20 seconds longer because there's an added chorus/bridge between Romeo + Captain Smith. In Edit One, there's no break. I now prefer Edit Two, so I had to buy it!

I was listening to "Me Against The Music" this morning. At the time, I was surprised that it was not a bigger hit. It had two of the biggest pop divas on it. I was never a fan of the song, but I thought it would have been a much bigger hit. But I do think it had some things working against it:
1)Madonna was in the middle of her American Life era, which had not been going well. This was released right after Hollywood, which did not exactly set the charts on fire.
2)In looking at Britney's chart performance at that time, it is very odd. Her singles were never HUGE on the singles chart, but she sold tons of albums. It was her 11th single, but none had risen higher than #9 (Baby One More Time.) She didn't hit #1 until 5 years later with Womanizer.
3)Maybe people thought it was an odd combination? Madonna was 45 at the time and Britney was 21.
That being said, it was released a month after their infamous kiss at the MTV VMAs. You would think all of that attention would have helped.

I guess I don't listen to much music anymore. About 80% of the time while driving to work and back, it's SILENCE. I like peace and quiet while sipping my coffee, and at the end of a long day, I want peace and quiet again. At the gym I occasionally shuffle thru some Madonna/Gaga/Katy album that I've purchased, or once in a while I'll put on TTH, but for the most part it's just dance music. Like oldskool rave music. And that's it!

I have a massive iTunes library and stream minimally. I think I am still old school and like to own my music directly. However, I do have an Apple Music subscription and I stream periodically. The main reason I use Apple Music is because it is really the only way to get my iTunes library to stream thru my Alexa, other than having to bluetooth my phone over to the speaker and manually control it on the phone.

I stream all the time. In the early 2000s I transitioned to itunes and amazon digital music. Amazon often had better prices. I also had the concern of not owing the music. But then I compared all the money I was spending monthly buying digital music versus a subscription with Spotify and switched. It´s been already I guess 5+ with Spotify and still loving it. Love the freedom of exploring whatever I want. I also had a massive digital collection and CD collection. It was turning into a pain also with the space on my hard drive. Nowadays I may buy one CD a year and perhaps not even. Perhaps only a very special edition, unique packaging. Months ago I sent to my itunes for the first time in years to organize some unusual stuff that is not available on streaming (or on itunes as a matter of fact), stuff like non-album tracks, b-sides, etc). I'd like sooner or later to get into some vinyl again, but I'll do it I guess just for the cool factor and nostalgia, not for practicality. Do I stream a lot of Madonna? Maybe not. For Finally Enough Love I have to say the full month after the release I played it A LOT. The album I've revisited the most throughout the years must be Erotica. I do enjoy very much going back to the first album. But for sure I don't stream her music every day.
I am looking forward though to see what they will do with the re-release of Madonna's discography. I hope something amazing, but keeping my hopes low. If it's beautiful packaging and awesome material I will buy the physical editions as collection items.

If it's beautiful packaging and awesome material I will buy the physical editions as collection items. This is why I am waiting for the curated anniversary editions and such to come out. I donated my CD collection to an underfunded local library about 7 years ago, other than rare albums not released in the US, and so I have zero of Madonna's albums in physical media. For contrast, I have all of Kylie and Janet's albums on CD still and all of Mariah's on vinyl - I want to fill this gap of Madge's releases but I am excited to see what we get through this new contract with Warner. Until then, streaming is the only way for me to listen to her!

This is footage of the dress rehearsal...which quite honestly, was better than the live show version. In the live version, Madonna forgot to sing most of her part and changed her outfit.
