it's just ok to me. Not something I would seek out. Sidewalk Talk is better.

I've never heard Gambler in my life. In late 1985/early 1986 Gambler was THE song of the summer in Lima, Peru, where I lived back then. Summer is during those months down there. I loved the song so much. Don't know why it wasn't officially released as a single in the U.S. I guess it was so it won't interfere with the Like A Virgin singles performance.

I've never heard Gambler in my life. Please put it on your list of things to do this Friday! I didn't know it until 2008 when a friend recommended it. I loved it immediately and I still do.

I wish I would've bought the OG Angel/Into The Groove 12" single when I saw it in a record store years ago. I loooooooooooooove the Extended Dance Mix of Angel.

^It's out there. :)
I like "Gambler." The Virgin Tour performance was even more rock-oriented.

Is this Back That Up track going viral? I’ve never heard it. Not Madonna coming thru w a viral hit song! Sorry if I’m late the party, just pleasantly surprised.

Gambler is great! Especially around the 1:30 mark.
I have to say I am loving the remix album and the single releases. I had never heard of the Up Down Suite but it is straight up fire. Where is this Madonna these days!?!

Sharing a playlist I made called "Madonna: Lush." No, these are not songs she sang while drunk. These are songs that have a softer and sweeping vibe to them. Some ballads and some dance tracks...just without a hard edge to them. They moved me in some way. Madonna:Lush

I remember Gambler being played on MTV a lot, around the same time as Crazy for You and Material Girl. Vision Quest started to be mentioned as a Madonna movie, even though she is barely in it as just a singer in the bar.
I always loved this song and wished it was released as a single. This was around the time where she was so huge and had multiple singles in rotation around the same time. CFY and MG were in the top 5 at the same time. Into the Groove was out at the same time as Angel. Somewhere in there Gambler was getting airplay as well. It was commercially released in Europe at the same time Dress You Up was being promoted in the U.S. So they held back both Gambler and ITG back as singles, even though both were getting airplay. This was the beginning of my sophomore year in HS. I was a happy little closeted teen gay bopping around in my room to Madonna.
Apparently, she also recorded a third song for Vision Quest called "Warning Signs" but it was never used and has never leaked. I wish I could hear it.
Update: the 7" version is currently sitting at #22 on iTunes.

“So why now for this long-awaited debut? “It was Madonna’s personal request,” according to a representative at Rhino. It’s the latest release in the ongoing catalog campaign announced in 2021. While “Gambler” is the final Madonna reissue from Rhino/Warner in 2022, Rhino promises “more fun things to look forward to in 2023” and that “Gambler” is “just a small glimpse of what fans can expect” next year.”

August- "Gambler" didn't appear on any U.S. airplay chart, though, while "Into the Groove" appeared on multiple ones- all unsolicited airplay, at that. Radio would play the song from a recording of the video off MTV before the 12-inch single was released. Things were different in the UK, as the four LAV singles, the two VQ tracks and ITG all had regular, 45 singles released.

Is anyone else disappointed by the rollout of Lola’s first album? Call me crazy but I was hoping that she would at least attempt to carry on the legacy of her mother and try a career in mainstream pop/dance music. Her new music feels very outdated, doesn’t have any buzz or promotion or anything interesting to offer (other than an explicit song title like “Not Pussy”). It basically feels like a vanity project by a spoiled celebrity kid.
Don’t get me wrong. Not everyone can be Liza with a Z but it doesn’t even look like Madonna groomed her in any way for a music career which is perplexing since you’d think she’d want her daughter to succeed.

I think Madonna lets her kids chart their own paths, like every good parent should and just as she charted her own path.

^Thanks for the info. No. 10 for the '90s- not too bad. Surprised she didn't have more '80s songs played 48 or more times in that time frame.

I personally have ZERO interest in her and I honestly I don't even really like her. Rocco I'm FAR more interested in.
