Since we are all in touring discussion mode...I thought I would mention my other pop diva I was obsessed with in the 80s / 90s, Belinda Carlisle. Madonna and Belinda have some overlap in their background touring singers. Donna DeLory toured with Belinda Carlisle in 1988 on the Good Heavens! Tour....exactly one year after she toured with Madonna in the Who's That Girl Tour. Debra Parsons toured with Belinda Carlisle in 1990 on the Runaway Tour...and toured with Madonna as one of her three backup singers (with Niki and Donna) on the Who's That Girl Tour. Donna singing with Belinda: That Belinda Carlisle tour was the first concert I ever went to. Donna Summer had cancelled some of her tour and I was supposed to go see her. With the refund I picked Belinda. I had just turned or was turning 11. Memories…. The Good Heavens Tour was the summer I graduated HS. I went to see it with some friends as the last hurrah before college. I remember I bought the tour poster. Imagine my Deadhead roommate and what he was thinking when I showed up to our dorm assignment and hung up my Madonna and Belinda posters. Meanwhile, he had Bob Marley, a giant Free South Africa poster, and a bong.

I was always the kid in school still trying to make Donna Summer a thing after her peak and the kids were calling her Diana Summer… I was such a nerd I made my own pre concert t shirt with puffy paint a cut out picture etc of Donna on it to promote her concert I was going to see in 1990 and wore it to middle school. This is a Madonna thread. My best friend was a huge Madonna fan and we would constantly bicker about Donna and Madonna and who was better. Back then he usually won because Madonna was huge then. But then I got an obsession with Whitney and I could compete with him chart wise etc. lol Oh Lord how a 6th-12th grader thinks. Lol

You know, I was thinking. The tour is called the Celebration tour.
It would be pretty iconic if she just played the Celebration album tracklist...maybe updated with a few singles she has had out since.
It would be a pretty long setlist, so she would have to do some medleys, the way Janet Jackson crams 35 songs into a concert.

My dream setlist...not every song is my all time favorite but would be representative of her career. I put a * next to the songs I would surprised made the cut. Also, these are not in order. Otherwise, I think the show would start out super strong with her biggest hits and then start to peter out at the end. The only songs that I think for sure are in the right place are Everybody and Bitch, I'm Madonna
Everybody Physical Attraction* Burning Up Borderline Lucky Star Holiday (lets take this one out of the encore)
Angel Like a Virgin Material Girl Dress You Up* Into the Groove
Papa Don't Preach Open Your Heart Causing a Commotion
Ballad Section - she is going to need a breather-she could do a medley here Live to Tell Crazy for You I'll Remember Take a Bow This Used to be My Playground* Oh Father* Bad Girl* Power of Good-bye*
Like a Prayer Express Yourself Vogue Cherish*
La Isla Bonita Who's That Girl*
Deeper and Deeper Erotica Fever*
Secret Human Nature
Frozen Ray of Light
Music Don't Tell Me
Hung Up Sorry 4 Minutes Give it 2 Me
Encore: Celebration Bitch, I'm Madonna

Slim pickins in Tampa. Tho on Stubhub the tickets are cheaper than Ticketmaster. Looks almost sold out thk. Haven’t bought a ticket yet, but I could get Row C in Lower Level for around $550. Which isn’t bad. All the tickets are resales. Ugh. The scalper issue has to be resolved. The Taylor fiasco didn’t really change anything here. Prices are so high omg. I mean…even her mere presence commands top dollar, but it’s kind of ridiculous. And this isn’t just about Madonna. I feel every concert by anyone is going to be like this. I know, I think the scalper thing is beyond annoying. I panicked this morning and bought 2 tickets for Detroit. I thought they were $280 each, but I clicked on a better row, row 8 and ending up with like $400 tickets. But I'm ok. I think.

I got a ticket for Friday night in ATX. A bunch of friends also got tickets in the same section. I know it's going to be packed with gays but our section will be wild. lol. I'm excited to see what she gives us since this will be a career-spanning set. If we get to see her go from past to present, that'd be amazing. Where are y'all sitting? Austin party!! yess. we'll be in Section 207!

The ageist backlash against Madonna is predictable and tiresome “People say I’m controversial,” Madonna said in 2016, “but I think the most controversial thing I have ever done is to stick around.” Bingo. cultmtl.com/2023/01/the-ageist-backlash-against-madonna-is-predictable-and-tiresome-celebration-tour/“The truth is Madonna has always pushed the envelope, pushed back against ageism and made people squirm with her sexually provocative performances, often with scandalous religious undertones. From the Pope to the religious right, to average folks simply uncomfortable with women comfortable and forthcoming with their own sexuality, she unsettled them. Throughout her career, the singer has always managed to stay one step ahead of trends, constantly calling out the outrage over the nudity and sexuality in her music videos while gun violence and misogyny were so often given a pass. Madonna was also one of the very first musicians to advocate in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, donating millions of dollars to research and support to the LGBTQ+ community and using her star power to make a huge difference. How Madonna has chosen to deal with aging is her choice and hers alone. We can ignore her, laugh at her, pity her, but her reaction to the aging process takes nothing away from her career, her legacy and her ability to draw fans to see her. Because no matter how much mockery she’s sustained in the past few days as a “has been” and an “old hag,” the public’s reaction to her tour announcement firmly contradicts her critics’ assessment of her”

Can we all just sue Ticket Master already? If anything can bring us together...
Thankfully we were able to snag some decent tickets despite their interface doing it's best to sabotage us.

Biopic is scrapped. I say good riddance. She should do it in the future, hire a great director and be heavily involved in telling her story.

It's a shame the biopic has been scrapped but perhaps it's all for the best given some of the stuff we knew about the script writing process and the leaks of some of the possible storylines, and knowing what was/was not going to be included.
It had been announced that Madonna was actually interested in directing the movie and given her previous directorial ventures, this might be a good thing because many would totally dismiss it outright before even giving it a chance. And more likely than not, it would be a disappointing final product.
There had been some rumors that one of the big issues that lead to some no longer wanting to be involved in the movie was that she apparently wanted to do some revisionist history with some of the things that were depicted and didn't want to really include anything past the Blonde Ambition Tour stuff which is puzzling because there is so much after that which would be compelling.
I think a Madonna mini-series might be a better way to show far more and not really rush through it. But getting the original songs and everything in there has to happen otherwise they shouldn't do it.
I really do hope Madonna will do some sort of a memoir/book about her life and career because she is one of the few who has not done anything like that before.

I think it is for the best that the picture is scrapped, or at least delayed. Hollywood Reporter is stating that in its current state it is just too long. It is estimated to be 3 hours long and only covers up until the Blond Ambition Tour. There is also talks that is could have been multiple films or a mini-series. I also read that she was doing some "revisionist history" to some of her early years.
If you stopped at Blond Ambition, you lose the opportunity to tell some really compelling stories that happened after her ultimate peak in fame:
1)The fallout from the whole Erotica / Sex era 2)Getting the part in Evita and winning a Golden Globe 3)Her comeback with Ray of Light / Music 4)The impact of motherhood 5)The ageism she started to face and how she is dealing with it, etc. 6)Her fallout with her brother and the book he wrote
Not to mention that I think Madonna should hold an Executive Producer role, but leave the directing, producing, and screenwriting to someone who has more experience. Her film track record is not that strong, so better to leave it in someone else's hands, with input from Madonna.

A TV series may be more appealing in my opinion. I wonder how the Whitney Houston one did on theaters. I just checked. It made 23 million. That doesn't sound like a commercial success. Like other people here, I also think she should get a director who will agree to tell her story how she wants it. But having her as director, people will dismiss the movie and talk trash about it without even watching it.

1)The fallout from the whole Erotica / Sex era Seeing how she weathered that entire storm of controversies from the "Justify My Love" video through Erotica, the Sex book, and the Body Of Evidence. We don't know what she was really feeling or how she handled that in private.

I just got my Live Nation presale code for tomorrow and realized that it’s literally the same “code” that I have received from them for other artists. It’s just an observation though…
