So I have a little proposal...
Since our girl has pretty much gone silent and her tour has ended and we probably won't see anything from her for awhile, until the next era. Not to mention that most (if not all of us) are at home social distancing. I am in Hoboken, NJ where we have been instructed by the Mayor to stay home and "shelter in place" and can only leave our homes to go for a walk (while keeping 10 feet apart) or go to the Supermarket...that is pretty much it.
So let's try something fun. Pick a video from M's vast catalog and share it. Tell us why you love it, any memory from your life it may invoke, and discuss any symbolism or visuals that really speak to you. We can all comment and share and have a fun discussion.
I will start. Here is the video for "Girl Gone Wild." It was released as the second single from MDNA in 2012. This was an important single for Madonna in that she had just had a Top 10 hit with "Give Me All Your Luv'n." This was the single that would prove whether or not the top 10 success was because of Superbowl hype or if radio / general public was still interested. No big shock, this song went to #1 on the Dance Chart, but Bubbled Under at #106 on the Pop chart. It also peaked at #38 on Mainstream Top 40. It was a bit of a shame because it was such a banging track and she did a remix with Avicii who was really hot at the time. She even did a remix video featuring him. She promoted this song a bit too. She did a FB live interview with Jimmy Fallon and showed him how to do the choreography from the video.
The video was so damn hot it was ridiculous. Lots of hot men, homoerotic imagery, M looked gorgeous with her MDNA hair, and the outfits she was wearing. It felt like classic sexy Madonna, the visuals reminded me a bit of Vogue, and she had the dance troupe Kazaky in the video. They were just getting some attention at the time. Not to mention her little nod to Lady Gaga at the end of the video with the black tears. All the visuals were lined up for this to be a mainstream hit. But alas, it was not. There were some incredible mixes done for this song...my favorite being the Offer NIssim mix, which was partially used to open the MDNA tour.
What did you think of this song?

I still really like "Girl Gone Wild". It's a fun bop. I love the Offer Nissim remix. It gives the song such a different feel. I do wish all of the verses and choruses had been kept. I know it's Offer's thing to not always use all of the vocals for some of his productions. The music video is incredibly sexy.

Unpopular opinion but GGW is one of Madonna's best songs ever. That entrance on MDNA Tour was nothing but fantastic. If a younger girl sang and released this, it would've been top 5 everywhere.

Man, a lot of people hate Madonna per the Twitter comments. What did she do to piss so many people off? She's just having fun.

^Because anything she does- whatever it is, especially if it's just silly fun- brings out the envious haters.
"girl Gone Wild" is fun, and the video is hot, though it's never been a favorite. It fits with her theme, though he music is kinda generic, something anyone could have sang over. At least that's my POV. :)

Well if she looked like her old self... She looks so different compared to the Rebel Heart era.

Her face now looks like a stretched out fusion of Faye Dunaway and Joan Crawford's.

I loved GGW, and I thought it had all the ingredients to become a massive Pop hit at the time, but yeah, the general public just didnβt get it.
Itβs nice to see her having some fun!
Also, the playlist at work has βGhosttownβ on it so I hear it a few times every day which I love.

her IG post today was very enlightening, i think:
"Covid-19 is both terrible and great at the same time.
It's terrible cuz it's making us all equal, in many ways.
It's wonderful cuz it's making us all equal, in many ways."

She's getting a bit bizarre with the social media posts. Though I don't pay much mind to them other than the quick glance. She's hardly the only one to look silly on social media; frankly, I think most celebs do with stuff they post on there.
I opt to focus more on M's incomparable audio and visual legacy she has gifted us these decades.
In 1985, "Into the Groove" was in the wings, waiting for top 10 airplay and No. 1 sales showings.
