Worst song on an otherwise stellar album. I understand nothing will get radio play anyway, but why not “Long Way Down?”
Looks like this is delivered 1/24.

Worst song on an otherwise stellar album. I understand nothing will get radio play anyway, but why not “Long Way Down?” Looks like this is delivered 1/24. I'm surprised they are even releasing something considering when "marquee sign" peaked and her album was released. By "they" you really mean "she." Born to Fly Records is just Sara Evans, so she's basically just doing whatever she wants at this point (and I didn't expect her to just not do anything with the album after "Marquee Sign", especially with her going on tour in support of it). Really though, it doesn't matter what she releases because unless she arranges some kind of deal with an outside radio promo team, she's not going to get any airplay. I thought that was the original plan for "Marquee Sign," but it seemed like that idea to actually promote it to radio never got off the ground. I think she could have some minor success with some of the songs on this album the way Reba McEntire has, but Sara Evans can't do it alone. This is the kind of song radio seems to like from female artists though, so if she got radio on board, this isn't a bad choice. I would've gone with "I Don't Trust Myself" personally, but the tour is named after this song and it's clearly one of her favorites on Words with how she's already pimped it out plenty, so I'm not surprised. Looking forward to a hopefully great music video, if nothing else. The one for "Marquee Sign" was stellar. <3

I agree with everything Indulge said. This is my absolute favorite song on the album, but if she were to actually get some support in promoting a song, “I Don’t Trust Myself” is her best shot. I do find it interesting that when I saw Sara just over a month ago on her Christmas tour, she sang 3 songs from the new album and this was not one of them.

I personally would have gone with Rain & Fire.

Awesome! This was one of my favorite songs last year. She just nails it in terms of emotional impact vocally speaking. I know it likely won't do anything at radio, but this is a great song.

This could be a #1 country smash and he still wouldn't hear it on the radio. Look at his location, lol. I think he was just expressing that he's happy it's going to radio. I know it's his favorite song on the album since discovering it from my Words rankdown last year.

So yeah, opening Pulse and seeing this thread pretty much made my day This song is incredible! I am definitely surprised it is this one and not "Long Way Down", but that's okay because this is still one of my favorites from the album, maybe even a little bit ahead of LWD.

Yes, great song no doubt. I am just glad that we are still able to get albums from our favorites even without airplay (Shania, Sara, Reba, Ronnie Dunn, etc). Airplay would be great, but I feel we're so lucky to be getting new music (which to be honest, a lot of times is even better than the songs they had on the radio).

This will do just fine on Music Row and secondary markets. #1? No but a Top 20 won't be out of place there. I'm pretty dang sure that's exactly where she's going to market this one only. I mean some big markets which have always played her could help it scrape the charts but I doubt it.

I'd like this song a whole lot more if she didn't sound so annoying on the "All the love you left me left me left me left me". Ugh, I'm gonna try and get over that part because otherwise its great but she should have just held some notes out there instead of what she did.
Listening back to this though, she only does that on the first chorus (and there's an echo on the last one from the BGVs) so its not as bad as I remember. I'd love for Sara to get another hit, but those days are over unfortunately :(

Yeah this has zero chance to do anything on mainstream airplay if “Marquee Sign” didn’t, but I can see it doing well on secondary.
I’m just happy this was picked as a single! It’s charting on my personal chart atm!

It didn't chart on the major airplay charts. Secondary though is what we were talking about. Sadly, there’s no easy spot to find that except to try and find archived music row and activator/indicator charts. :/

How does it work? Secondary chart is smaller market stations. There's the Music Row chart, which is probably the best and most extensive. It works the same as mainstream radio, expect they rank songs based on spins at Music Row. About 2,000-2,500 spins can get you to #1. Same deal, promoting and radio tours. Those small indie labels use less money however, and it's become a haven for past star artists like Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Lawrence and now artists like George Strait and Alan Jackson. Those super small market stations have more freedom with their playlists as well, they're not owned by a major conglomerate.

On Music Row it looks like it made it to #43. I’d have to double check if it went higher but the next two weeks after that it fell.

This in no way would have been my choice, but I'm glad to see Sara still continuing to promote the alum and trying to shift the focus to a new track.

I would've rather she went with "Words" or "I Want You," but like others have said, this is really just whatever she'd like to do since she doesn't have radio support.
