lThe 80's were amazing, so let's get some extras in here. As always, my top 100 of 1985 looked nothing like Billboard's, so you can consider some of my picks as extras. 93. Animotion - Let Him Go (BB #39) (DOC #12)- Let Him Go: YES, this one was a personal top 20 following the bigger hit Obsession. I'm always up for Latin-vibed songs, but but I don't find the Latin connection here (??!!). Are you sure you're not confused with Let It Go? Maybe I was thinking of Nocera - "Let's Go". That one had that Latin Freestyle vibe, and I think she was Italian? ;) #70. Walking On Sunshine - Katrina and The Waves- I've learned to appreciate the upbeat fun of this song, a lot more now, then when it first hit the airwaves. #69 . Method Of Modern Love - Hall & Oates (DOC #8)Gotta love everything about Hall & Oates. I love the way they played around with the spelling of the song's title to come up with that chorus. This song made my top 10 for a few weeks peaking at #9. #68 . You Give Good Love - Whitney HoustonI thought a lot of you would like this more. I wasn't really a fan of this song. It didn't strike me as an 80's fun song. It sounded more 90's Pop ballad; which is when Whitney really became huge. #67 . In My House
- Mary Jane Girls (DOC #6)Now this is way more the R&B style I loved in the 80's. Sultry, Funky and catchy. Believe it or not with as peak of #6 on my personal charts, this song also comes in at #67 on my 1985 year end chart. #66 . Rhythm Of The Night
- DeBarge (DOC #14)Tho I charted all the Debarge hits; this is the only one that made my year end chart at #97. #65 . Fresh - Kool & The GangDecent R&B. It didn't really strike me as a Kool & The Gang classic. #64 . Be Near Me - ABC (DOC #4)This #64 slot, seems like such an insult. Martin Frey had some incredible vocals. ABC was one of my favorite New Romantic bands of the 80's. I was the one who was still charting ABC in 2017. This one was huge on my charts peaking at #4, and yes this one made my top 40 songs of 1985. #63 . Fortress Around Your Heart
- StingThis one was o.k. I enjoyed Sting so much more with The Police. #62 . If You Love Somebody Set Them Free - Sting (DOC #11)I like this one a lot more. Even made my top 100 of 1985 at #95. It's a shame the band broke up. I think they still had a few more great albums in them? #61 . Lay Your Hands On Me - Thompson Twins (DOC #1)Another insult to a great band. Thompson Twins made those perfect New Wave ballads. It's no wonder they charted time after time on the Hot !00. This should have been in everyone's top 20. This was a big #1 song on my weekly charts, and it came in all the way at #15 for year end countdown. Wonderful song.

I can reveal a few of my 70-61 slots tonight. 69. Be Your Man - Jesse Johson's Revue (BB #61) (DOC #7)This was the highest slot I gave the TIME's lead guitarist with his own project. R&B Funk at it's finest. What Purple was to Prince, Pink was to Jesse. 68. Why Can't I Have You - The Cars (BB #33) (DOC #7)Heartbeat City was huge in 1984, but I kept charting Cars singles way into 1986. On Billboard this peaked at #33, but I thought it deserved top 10. A classic Underated New wave ballad from the best band ever. 66. Hot For Teacher - Van Halen (BB #56) (DOC #7)The Fourth single off 1984 failed to crack the Top 40 on Billboard, but for me it is one of their best ever. The music video was one of the reasons I would race home from school to watch on MTV. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M4_Ommfvv065. Smokin' In The Boy's Room - Motley Crue (BB #16) (DOC #5)Seems all the better hard rock songs just missed the Billboard Top 100 of 1985 countdown. This had a peak of #16 on the HOT 100. That wasn't good enough for a hard rock lovin' kid like me. You never catch me smoking in the boys room, but you would catch me cranking this one radio each time it would come on. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i6xO2K9AE064. Lover Boy - Billy Ocean (BB #15) (DOC #7)Tis a shame Biilboard chose the sappy ballad to make the top 100 over this great single. Tho known for his R&B vibe, Billy also dabbled a bit some progressive rock vibes. The Music Video looked like it came right out of the Star Wars saga. 63. Goodbye Bad Times - Philip Oakey and Geogio Moroder (U.K. #44) (DOC #5)Any Human League fan or Donna Summer fan should love this 1985 New Wave rarity. The single failed to be successful anywhere but the U.K. where it peaked at #44. I might have been it's highest charter. Giving the song a #5 peak. mainly because of Philip Oakey's perfect vocals. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbNw2lKj4no61. I Would Die 4-U - Prince (BB #8) (DOC #3)The last song I can reveal tonight is yet another song off the Purple Rain soundtrack. This one became one of my favorite Prince songs ever. I love the synth simplicity of it the most. It shot up to #3 in early 1985, but it was only on my top 50 for about 10 weeks total.. this was my chart run for it. 30-22-11-10-1985- 7-4-3-10-22-36-off.

This is my favorite Phil Collins ballad by far, and I'm surprised it's out before the followup single.

At first, I was shocked that "Voices Carry" was my first top 20 loss. But I looked back at my top 20, and...it's pretty stacked. I guess it makes sense that this would be my first top 20 to fall, given what else is in my top 20.
I was not expecting "One More Night" to not be one of my last two bottom tens remaining. In fact, I thought it and my #91 would be my longest-lasting bottom tens. I'm quite surprised that my #96 beat it.

Shocked that Born in the USA missed the top half (but not complaining :kii: )
Also, thank goodness St. Elmo's Fire didn't clear the halfway point either.

I was expecting to absolutely f**king haaaaaate this because of the Crazy Frog version, but the original is actually a lot better. That Crazy Frog remake was frightening. I was shocked at how far it went on the charts. I personally like the Spacecorn remake from the early 2000s which is done in a Trance/Hard House style resembling those Warp Brothers and Aquagen tracks. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja8suEGCSGo

80. Misled (78): This wasn't popular back home, so I missed it when this was first released, and only listened to it for the first time in Casey's Countdown in the late 1990s. Not a bad song. I like it more than Emergency, Victory, but not as much as most other K&TG songs. 79. Cherish (60): A personal top 5 and a tender song that I still appreciate. (I'm always quite amused at these back-to-back hits from the same artist in many yearend RDs.) 78. Sugar Walls (88): A personal top 10 of one of my favorite artists of the 1980s. I appreciate the Prince sound and all, but it's less catchy than other songs this year. 77. We Built This City (29): Oh, my!! :( :( I've never understood the hate of the song. I assume it has something to do with the lyrics --which of course I don't mind, especially as lyrics were an afterthought to me in the 1980s. The vocals, melody, music were all on point to me. This was a personal chart-topper that I still come back to with good memories, just like Sara and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now. 76. Lonely 'Ol Night (95): A personal top 20, but that's it. I like John Cougar but this was just too meh to me. 75. Angel (54): OK, I was asking when the divas were gonna start appearing, but NO, I wasn't talking about M... there are OTHER diva songs that should've already left! Anyway. This was my lowest ranked M song in this RD. A personal weekly runner-up, and a song I still listen to with nostalgia :) one of the trilogy of tender pop melodic songs from M: Angel - True Blue - Cherish. The 12" version was also popular back home with much more presence of her laughter :) 74. Nightshift (86): Like Misled, I only learned about this in the 1990s. I like it, but not enough for a higher ranking in this RD. 73. Freedom (84): I did like the nostalgic retro sound of this one, even though it was only a top 20 song in my personal chart. I preferred I'm Your Man 72. What About Love (68): Great beginning, but then turns into more generic space. Their voices are amazing, though. 71. Every Time You Go Away (32): A personal chart-topper and a big hit back home. The 12" version also had some rotation. Quite pretty instrumentation, nice melody and solid vocals from PY. And good memories from this one. Sad to see now 3 songs in my top 1/3 of this RD leaving already :((

70. Walking on Sunshine (47): Pure pop fun! Personal chart-topper and big hit back home. I've had moments I don't wanna hear it again, but lately I've come back to appreciate it again. Do You Want Crying was another personal top 20 and that one has aged better to me... 69. Method of Modern Love (92): I've always been a fan of H&O, although my brother was an even bigger fan :) I finally saw them live last year and I had a blast Method was a #2 hit in my personal chart, but it hasn't aged that well with me. Appreciate what they were going for, but now it's amongst their least memorable hits. 68. You Give Good Love (100): YAYYYY!!!!! Finally! My clear #100 of this RD. Sorry. I like other Whitney's songs, but I never cared about this one, actually, it's among my bottom 5 Whitney singles ever, including features... 67. In My House (66): This was a short-lived minor hit in one of our radio stations back home, and even though it didn't rank high in my personal chart, I did like the sort of disco vibe of it, and it's aged well with me. Also, almost Perfect Ranking! 66. Rhythm of the Night (25): >:( :( Just like All Night Long, this was a BIG hit back home. Understandably, as it had a full Latin vibe, including the repeated ad-lib chorus in the last minute, typical of tropical songs. I still use it and keep it in my iTunes :) A Latin version of the song also had some popularity back home: Al Ritmo de la Noche, by Sophy from Puerto Rico: 65. Fresh (39): This was K&TG's last memorable hit in my personal chart. It reached top 5 just like Cherish, but had more staying power and I still come back to it often. The chorus and the last minute are HOT... sorry FRESH! 64. Be Near Me (34): :'( ABC and Spandau Ballet were 1980s groups that I really liked as they represented this lush, polished, elegant pop sound. BNM was the second song I heard of them, following one of my favorite songs from 1983 (and the 1980s) The Look of Love. BNM was a quick personal chart-topper and a #1 song in our country. I think it still sounds timeless. Wish it had been in the top half of this RD at least 63. Fortress Around Your Heart (97): I do like Sting, but this one was another 'chorus song' for me. Really like the chorus but the verses are a bit meh, with some notes that don't gel too well to me. It was a top 25 in my personal chart but with short life. 62. If You Love Somebody Set Them Free (36): This one, on the contrary, was a personal chart-topper and a big hit back home. Love it!! By the way, back home this was his second single as a solo artist, as his cover of Tutti Frutti received some airplay as well 61. Lay Your Hands On Me (62): Another almost Perfect ranking! I was planning to rank this higher, but the verses sounded a bit more underwhelming in the context of other 1985 songs. I do like it, though, and it was very close to be in my top 50 at some point...

#60. Who's Zoomin' Who? - Aretha Franklin I forgot I still had this one in my bottom 10. Didn't do much for me.
#59. Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer A decent Synthpop Instrumental. I always thought I would have liked it better with vocals.
#58. Jungle Love - The Time (DOC #12 1984) Love the huge cover art images more than the smaller ones. Anyway, this song is awesome. Morris Day delivers it with that perfect funk attitude. This one squeezed onto my top 100 ,1984 songs, all the way up at #12 for that year.
#57. Voices Carry - 'Til Tuesday (DOC #5) Really surprised this came in below the top 50 here. I thought it would get mad love for that Alternative Rock vibe it had. I also charted it just below the top 50 for that year, because of much stronger songs. The second single; "Looking Over My Shoulder" was another big top 5 hit on my charts coming in at #60 for 1985..
Looking Over My Shoulder - 'Til Tusday (BB #61) (DOC #5)
#56 . One More Night - Phil Collins Not a bad Pop ballad, but not as epic as "Against All Odds"
#55 . Born In The U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen Out of all the singles off his album, this was the one That I liked least. I still charted it, but only to #39.
#54 . Loverboy - Billy Ocean Ok here it is after all. I thought Billboard forget about this one. So glad it made it this high on our own ranks.
#53 . St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion) - John Parr (DOC #43) This was a great Pop rock song. This one made my top 50 of 1984 after going all the way to #2 on my weekly charts.
#52. Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters This R&B hit seemed a little to happy go lucky for me. I did love Pointer Sisters, but not this song.
#51 . All She Wants To Do Is Dance - Don Henley (DOC #4) Just misses the top 50. I think it came in at a fair slot. I put it at #57 for my year end chart.

My own 80-71 looks a bit different so you can consider these from free bee 1985 extras. . Some of you might recall these 80's wonders. 80. Meeting In The Ladies Room - Klymaxx (BB #59) (DOC #11)I was surely into R&B but the kind with a funky groove. This one only peaked at #59 on Billboard. What a crime, cuz this was a jam. Gotta love that line. "Don't Slap me, cuz I'm not in the mood" 79. Small Town - John Cougar Mellencamp (BB #6) (DOC #10)This was the single that I dug from "Scarecrow". 77. Can You Help Me - Jesse Johnson Revue (BB HOT R&B #3) (DOC #12)Lead Guitarist for The Time, released his own solo material in 1984 full of fierce funk jams. 76. Burning Flame - Vitamin Z (BB #73) (DOC #10)English New Wave band with that One hit wonder in the States. I only came across them because of MTV. 75. Jamie - Ray Parker Jr. (BB #14) (DOC #7)This one was off his Chartbusters LP from 1984. 1985 was the year when I charted the most R&B on my charts. This is Ray Parker Jr. Performing the song on Solid Gold. No one gave a f**k about Lip syncing back then. We just wanted to listen to the songs. 73. Pop Life - Prince (BB #7) (DOC #7)So many songs hit the top 10 in 1985, yet many didn't make the billboard Top 100. this one was also off "Around The World In A Day'. You all know youtube when it comes to Prince, so no MV. 72. Just A Gigalo - David Lee Roth (BB #12) (DOC #6)Second release off 'Crazy from the Heat" easily went into my top 10. this is the original 6:30 minute video as it aired on MTV years ago. question is? Who has a hairier chest Dave or Paul Stanley from Kiss? :kii: 71. Won't You Hold My Hand - King (U.K. #24) (DOC #8)King was a New Wave British band who had big sucess in the U.K. Don't know how popular they were in the states, but I caught their videos on MTV and immediately dug their music. The extended version is the version I charted 69. 65. 64. 61. Comments on songs I know: -On John Cougar Mellencamp's Scarecrow, ROCK in the USA was a personal chart-topper. Small Town was definitely my second favorite by far, though. -Oh, wow! I hadn't heard Jamie [Used to be my Girl] in likely 20+ years!!! It was a personal top 10 as well, but short-lived. Nice memories :) -Well, Just A Gigolo was another top 10 for me, too :) California Girls was the biggest personal and country hit. JAG was my second favorite, and then Goin' Crazy. Back home, the latter was more successful in 1986 thanks to its Spanish version, Loco del Calor, which reached the top 5 back home. David was just a video KING :) :) That JAG video with parody of big 1980s acts was awesome, too! Lots of rotation in the video music channel / shows back home. One sort of weird thing in 1985 was to see the leaders of two rock bands (Van Halen, Led Zeppelin) doing these types of covers... WTF? -Smokin' in the Boys Room: Just okay for me. -Lover Boy: HEY, you said this when Suddenly was revealed... but LB is still to come!! :) :) -Goodby Bad Times: This was actually a #7 hit in our 2nd most popular radio station back home and a top 25 in the #1 radio station. A personal top 30 that I liked even more in time :) -I Would Die 4-U: not entered any chart back home, including mine. It almost charted but there were far too many other songs competing and it wasn't strong enough to me. I like it, but it wouldn't have been in my top 100 of 1985 even now

Here are a few great songs that just missed my top 50 of 1985. Numbers 51 and 52 are songs still in this chart. I'll reveal them once they show up.60. Looking Over My Shoulder - 'Til Tuesday (BB #61) (DOC #5)www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Bs3h87eeFU59. Get Into The Groove - Madonna (DOC #5)Here is a Madonna classic that was a b-side of "Angel", so it couldn't chart, but I was looking to cram as many Madonna song into my 1985 chart as I could. Damn, she was hot too. BTW, back in the 60's, The Beatles released singles with two a-side songs, and managed to chart both of there songs, so shame on Billboard for shunning this perfect dance song. 58. When Your Heart Is Weak - Cock Robin (BB #35) (DOC #4)Cock Robin was an American Sophistipop band who had most of their success in Europe. There style of music was elegant pop music like Mr. Mister, Johnny Hates Jazz, Go West, etc.. This Pop Rock ballad, was a favorite of mine, spending 25 weeks in my personal top 50. I still consider it ,one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. 54. Lay It Down - Ratt (BB #40) (DOC #4)After the massive chart success of "Round and Round" ; it was only natural I would keep charting Ratt . This was the first single off their second album; "Invasion of Your Privacy". It also charted on Billboard Hot 100, but stalled at #40. It also just missed the top 10 on the Mainstream Rock chart. On my chart , it naturally ,became a big top 5 smash. The gorgeous lady, with the killer eyes, in the MV, also appears in Ric Ocasek's "Something To Grab For" video. Her name is Marianne Gravette. I would say she is one of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. 53. Heaven's On Fire - Kiss (BB #49) (DOC #4)This massive Party rock jam crossed right into my 1985 charts. The lyrics of this song are so perfect they just roll off your tongue. Kiss is my favorite hard Rock band ever. They also made some of the best Rock music videos ever. Paul Stanley was born to front this band. His singing and the energy he has on stage is incredible. I've seen this band live about 10 times. Including here in Tijuana.
