I have never liked this remake. I've tried to, but it never clicked with me.
Surprised Terence's first song out is Sign Your Name, that entire album is terrific.
No 'hair metal'-esque album has aged anywhere near as well as Hysteria, it is a pinnacle of craftsmanship. You can hear the work that went into it.
Rattle & Hum is extremely flimsy as a project all-around, but Desire still knocks.

Jody's first album is so good, like so good.
There are no bad singles from it whatsoever (even the straight up using nearly the exact same backing track as Who's That Girl track Most Of All), but this stands as one of the pinnacles of 80s R&B.

Pour Some Sugar On Me Def LeppardTotal Points: 2001 Billboard Hot 100: 2 (1)Billboard Top 100 of 1988: 19 From: HysteriaReaching its peak of No. 2 on July 23, 1988 (my birthday =P), this stripper anthem was up to that point the most successful single from the album Hysteria. It was their highest charting single (though eventually out-placed by "Love Bites") and propelled the album to the top of the Billboard 200 a year after its release. It remains one of their most popular songs. Disappointed that this one couldn't make the Top 20 as I lose my first Top 10 with this leaving the rankdown... What the hell is "Desire" doing out this early? "Hazy Shade of Winter", I expected, as it's a distinctly different cover of a S&G song. But I expected "Desire" to be top 20 minimum. I don't expect my top two to make the top ten, either, so...yeah.
On the other hand, we took care of that pesky 88. I am not totally against Def Leppard, honest, but "Love Bites" bothered me. Every song remaining is now in my top half, though my two lowest are songs that I liked, but didn't really care for. We get rid of those, and every song remaining is in my top 25.
Fingers crossed.

NGGYU became such a pervasive meme that it's easy to mistakenly [dis]regard it as a novelty song. But if you put all of the rick rolling silliness aside and really listen to it, it's so perfectly constructed. It's everything an 80s pop song is supposed to be.
My ranks for that, Don't You Want Me, and Pour Some Sugar On Me feel deceptively low looking at them now, but they fell in that grayish upper-middle area where I liked everything close to equally and kind of struggled with the order.
I only have eight top 20 songs left (four top 10) but I also only have a handful of bottom half songs remaining too. So I haven't done great but I'm not doing awful either. I think I can make it to the rankdown's top 10 with three of my top 10s left and clear out my one remaining bottom 10 while doing so.

No offense but it's really weird that you all went so hard for that Icehouse song. I'm not as pissed about my no. 1 missing the top 20—it's an outside pick, superior single remix is buried on Jody's '96 greatest hits compilation—as I am about losing my top 3 one after the other. You people live to humiliate me and yet I keep on returning. Anybody who knows me knows Jody Watley, the Queen of Cool, is my favorite pop star of this period. Think your fave snapped? Well, Jody walked so your faves could snap. So just imagine the frustration she must feel to watch as traces of her influence remain while the newer girls talk about Janet as their only forebear. But ummm!!! :bebe rexha: Already curious to see how my no. 1 (and global smash) in the 1989 rankdown will fare. It's an outside pick but...the power that that has, the intelligence that that has, the clearance that that has, the access that that has, the influence that that has, the profile that that has, the international implications that that has ...

I can’t believe Information Society and Johnny Hates Jazz made it to the top 20. There’s hope after all.

70 Out of the blue (44): I’m surprised that this ended higher than FB in this RD... although it’s still too low here. A nice cute melodic pop song with good vocals, that was her first top 3 in my personal chart. By the way, she managed to also peak at #3 with the follow-up to FB, Stayin’ Together: 69 Where do broken hearts go (49): It’s a nice ballad that even though didn’t enter my personal chart, has remained my second favorite ballad of her first two albums. 68 Get outta my dreams (46): This barely made the top 20 of my personal chart. I’ve gone in phases on this one. First I thought it was a bit too messy, then it was more of a guilty pleasure. In this RD it met me in my guilty pleasure moment. 67 Bad medicine (29): This was a runner-up in my personal chart. The intro and the outro are quite unique for a rock song. The sound and vocals are a bit messy, but the song is strong anyway. 66 Red red wine (31): this song had been a hit back home in 1983 so this new version wasn’t promoted and didn’t make my personal chart. I prefer the shorter version tbh but in any case I think this is a strong cover. 65 I want her (86): again, I did try but this type of NJS doesn’t do much for me 64 1-2-3 (62): This made my personal top 3 back then. I like the Latin vibe and all, but with time I’ve become a bigger fan of the ballads this era. 63 We’ll be together (23): huh? Another big loss here. This song reached the top of my personal chart. I liked the unique vibe of the song, including that last minute with the choir. The video was pretty good, too. I didn’t know that Annie contributed with background vocals! Another reason to like this song 62 The Locomotion (35): This was a BIG hit back home, reaching the top in radio and TV charts. It was also a personal chart-topper as I really liked the SAW type of sound applied to this classic. The most popular version played back home was not that of the video though... Before Loco, Kylie reached the top 10 in my personal chart with I should be so lucky, a song that had little rotation in a pop radio that wasn’t in the top 3 of popularity but usually played songs that were not that popular at home. 61 Wild Wild West (53): another sort of guilty pleasure, that reached the top 10 of my personal chart. It doesn’t sound as good as back then, but it’s still a unique fun pop song 60 Say you will (63): another personal top 10. Surprised it’s managed to be this high 59 Angel (21): huh?? This is as epic as a rock ballad can be. Definitely my favorite off PV. 58 Pink Cadillac (89): I’ve always been surprised at this being a Bruce song. It sounded ok back in the day, but still like a lesser version of Freeway of love to me. Clear bottom 15 for me. 57 Endless summer nights (50): this was and remains my favorite off this album. That sax sound doesn’t hurt it either 56 Should’ve known better (55): another back to back lol. A personal top 15. It reminded me a bit of Kenny Loggins’s I’m free. 55 Together Forever (30): awww. This was his biggest hit back home, and a personal two-week chart topper. Just pure catchy pop with great vocals. Wish it had made top half at least hope the other one doesn’t appear soon. 54 Don’t shed a tear (74): I thought I was gonna rank it higher actually, but didn’t connect as much as it used to. Won’t complain tho. 53 Cherry bomb (65): a personal top 20 and a song that I’ve grown to like much more with time. Pretty much his last single with his typical early 80s sound. His biggest hit this era back home was Real Life - a top 5 in our #1 pop station, and a personal chart topper. I didn’t know this wasn’t a single. It should’ve been! And it would’ve likely been in my top 20 of the year, especially now that the lyrics get closer to home 52 Piano in the dark (82): I really tried to give more love to this one but this is as high as I could place it. I admit it’s a good song but just not my cup of tea. 51 Everything your heart desires (77): a personal top 15 back in the day. It was just ok, far from their previous hits. They did have a comeback in the 1990s when Don’t hold back your love reached my personal top 3.

Seems Def Leppard will always be the Glam Rock Kings. Top 30 is more than I gave all you credit for. BTW, why is that "Fast Car" bull still in this. That thing is fucking awful. #30. Desire - U2On of my favorite U2 jams. Glad it made the top 30. #29. Love Bites - Def LeppardAs promised. Here is my #1 song of that year. Untouchable Epic Power Ballad. Can't ask the PULSE forum members for more than top 30 when it comes to Glam Metal. #28. Sign Your Name - Terence Trent D'ArbyFinally. Not too much for this "ring around the rosey" music. #27. Electric Blue - IcehousePleasantly surprised Icehouse made it this far. #26. Monkey - George MichaelGeorge Michael was on fire in 1988. Pop music ,with its big productions sounds had a certain sound that made it sound so powerful. #25. Hazy Shade Of Winter - The Bangles This is good slot for this song. Funny how their most rocking jam was a cover of a folky Simon and Garfunkle song. #24. Don't You Want Me - Jody WatleyWho would have thought Shalamar would produce two big solo artists? Jody Watley put out some of the better R&B jams of the 80's. #23. Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick AstleyLooks like Rick Astley Rick Rolled all of us. This is a lot higher than I thought the song would ever appear. Rick Astley had some of the most unique vocals of the 80's. No wonder he became such a super star. #22. Wishing Well - Terence Trent D'ArbyNo matter what rank down I participate in. There are always these certain songs that I tank, that everyone seems to love? To me this guy's songs were as bad as Milli Vanilli. #21. P our Some Sugar On Me - Def LeppardThumbs up for this song's showing. This is their most sleaziest Arena rock , but mostly used by Strippers world wide song ever. One of the biggest Glam Rock jack pots in history. Plus we all know Taylor Swift secretly wants to rock. Well this rank down has easily become another predictable one. If Gn'R appears before "Fast Car" this rank down is wacked.

I have a particular nostalgic connection to 'Sign Your Name' lol, dating back to primary school (our equivalent to elementary school in the US, I guess?) Anyway, at the end of every recess/lunch break my school would play a segment of a song to signal it was time to go back to class. 'Sign Your Name' is one of the songs I remember being used. It's years later that I realize that's not a song you really should be playing to children aged 5-11 lmao but they didn't play the mature parts at least which is easy enough to avoid when you're only playing probably 30 seconds of the song including the chorus.

50 I don’t wanna go on with you like that (34): I LOVED the piano here and the whole melody and music. Very sophistipop. The last minute is a delight. It was a 2-week runner-up in my personal chart, and a song I still like. In terms of his 80s outputs, I put this behind Sad Songs, Nikita and Little Jeannie. Good to see it in the top 50... I thought it had no chance. 49 Prove your love (39): A top 10 in my personal chart, and a song that sounds as fresh as back in 88. 48 Simply irresistible (41): a personal top 5; a good rock pop song that still sounds strong now. 47 Candle in the wind live (80): I like the 1997 and the original versions more than this one, which didn’t make my personal chart. 46 Nite and Day (91): another one I tried to rank higher, but couldn’t. Sorry 45 Mercedes boy (84): Had the chorus been stronger, I would’ve ranked this higher. The chorus was sort of a letdown 44 If it isn’t love (48): this is one of my favorite NJS songs though, so at least this time I wasn’t among the tankers 43 Roll with it (58): I didn’t like this song back then, but I’ve grown to like it with time. I thought I was gonna rank this in my 70s but it kept beating other songs. Glad to see Valerie is still in the running :) 42 Seasons change (61): I didn’t pay much attention to this one back in the day, and I had forgotten how it went. I thought it was gonna end in my 80s, but the more I heard it the more I liked it. I may have under-ranked it anyway. 41 The Flame (15): huh? This is quite a strong rock ballad, with strong melody and vocals. I don’t care if it doesn’t sound like I Want You To Want Me it’s a great song on its own IMO 40 Catch Me (I'm Falling) (94): I admit I under-ranked this, most likely because it was one of just a handful of discoveries in this RD, and didn't click as fast as Rocket 2 U. In any case, with this one I cleared my bottom 20 :) 39 I Get Weak (81): I was never into this one. It didn't make my personal chart, even when MAY, IFTM and HIAPOE all made it. It made the top 20 of a couple of our national radio stations but wasn't really popular. On the contrary, the follow-up single, Circle In The Sand, was a HIT back home, making the top 5 nationwide and the top of my personal chart in July: 38 Hungry Eyes (33): Pleasantly surprised this made it this far! I thought it was gonna leave soon after Control... It's a pretty good pop song. Yeah, the production may be a bit too much but that's part of the 80s stamp :) 37 Girlfriend (40): Hey, I wasn't a tanker here either!! I really like this song, and it's like a predecessor to Cold Hearted --even one of the girls in the video looks like Paula! Good to see it this high :) 36 Got My Mind Set On You (5): One of the best covers of the 1980s IMO. I loved the production, music, vocals, everything! It was a BIG hit back home (like yearend top 20) and a personal chart topper. Cloud Nine was a favorite album of mine this year. Devil's Radio made the top 10 of our #1 radio station, and the top 5 of my personal chart. This Is Love was another song I really liked, as it had a lot of Jeff Lynne influence

35 Is This Love (56): I initially put this in my 70s range, as I hadn't heard it in a long time. However, it kept raising in my ranking the more I was listening to it. I think I could've ranked it even higher. 34 Kissing a Fool (72): This is a pretty song, but just a bit too monotone to me. It was my lowest ranked GM song in this RD. It didn't make my personal chart... instead, Hand To Mouth made my personal top 20, and I would've ranked that one much higher than KaF. 33 I Hate Myself For Loving You (37): YAY!! New Orleans was a midsize hit in 1985, and this one made my personal top 10. Still sounds pretty good, and I think it should've been an even bigger hit. 32 I Found Someone (42): This made a small dent in my personal chart (top 25). I didn't know about Laura's version, but I Had heard Michael Bolton's version. In any case, good to see it this far. 31 Don't Be Cruel (78): With this one, only 2 of my bottom 30 remain :) 30 Desire (58): This was a hit back home, and a personal chart-topper, but everyone was talking about this being a sellout... With time, this one, and Angel of Harlem, have not held up that well for me. I'm intrigued at how this 'sellout' ended up being so much higher than The Flame... mmm.... 29 Love Bites (67): I didn't care about this one back in the day, but I've grown to like it more with time. The ballad that was more successful back home and in my personal chart was Hysteria 28 Sign Your Name (53): I used to like his songs much more back in the 80s, but they didn't sound as good now, especially the other one... 27 Electric Blue (43): YEAH!!! This was a runner-up in my personal chart, and a song that remains as good as back in the day :) Crazy was another hit that should've made a yearend RD. 26 Monkey (65): I'm appreciating a bit more the production of this one the more RDs I do 25 Hazy Shade Of Winter (11): Another big Bangles hit back home, and a personal chart-topper. Great cover that reinvented the song in a good way. 24 Don't You Want Me (52): This is amongst my favorite NJS songs... but my favorite this year was Some Kind of Lover, which would've made my top 40 23 Never Gonna Give You Up (6): Awww. Despite TF leaving early, I was hoping this could stick around a bit longer and made the top 20 at least. This was a personal chart-topper, and the first of 4 consecutive top 5s in my personal chart --after TF, It Would Take a Strong, Strong Man and Whenever You Need Somebody both reached my top 5 22 Wishing Well (76): I remember liking this song back in the day, so I was expecting to have this in my top half... but listening to it again, it just felt a bit like a parody 21 Pour Some Sugar On Me (14): Great pop-rock song! So close to the top 20!! I have left: 1-4, 7-10, 12, 13, 16, 18, 19, 24, 27, 28, 32, 36, 47, 75 Really wondering about #75 still around

95. Clime Fisher - Love Changes Everything (BB Hot 100 #16) (DOC #9)British Sophisti Pop duo originally wanted Rod Stewart to sing this, but things didn't work out and they released it themselves. It turns out to be their biggest hit. If you listen to it, it sounds a lot like something Rod Stewart would have released back then. 89. The Communards - Never Can Say Goodbye (Billboard HOT 100 #51) (DOC #10)The Hi-Energy vibe continues with Jimmy Sommerville's Communards. This Jackson 5 cover never sounded so great. 71. When In Rome - The Promise (Billboard HOT 100 #11) (DOC #7)One of the last very cool New Wave/Synthpop songs of the 80's. This song has become so much more popular than it ever was back then. 70. Kim Wilde - You Came (Billboard Hot 100 #41) (DOC #7)Kim needs no introduction. Since been in the music scene since forever til today. I charted "You Came" twice. Once in 1988 and another time in 2006 with the revamped version from her album 'Never Say Never". Both times the song peaked at #7 on my chart. Both versions are stellar. Hot babe alert x2 up next. original59. Johnny Hates Jazz - I Don't Want to Be A Hero (Billboard HOT 100 #31) (DOC #6)"Shattered Dreams" wasn't the only hit by the British Sophisti Pop band. This one and "Turn Back The Clock" were also big hits in The U.K. 53. Erasure - Chains Of Love (Billboard HOT 100 #12) (DOC #10)This band scored their best year in 1989 on my charts with "A Little Respect" "Stop" and "Knocking At Your Door" from Crackers International, but in 1988 they scored their second top 10 smash with "Chains Of Love". 41. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Dreaming (Billboard HOT 100 #16) (DOC #4)Don't know how this one missed Billboard's top 10. Even after establishing themselves with "If You leave" - First time I heard Love Changes Everything, I thought it was a new Rod Stewart song lol. This peaked at #2 in my personal chart, and it was a minor hit back home. - Never Can Say Goodbye was also a minor hit back home and a personal top 20 --although I've liked it even more with time, becoming THE version I love the most (over TJ5's or GG's) - The Promise wasn't played back home. I only discovered back in the early 00s when I'd buy CDs of a DJ who made long 1980s mixes. I LOVED IT as soon as I heard it. It was GREAT to se "Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann formerly of When In Rome" paying this live a few months ago in DC - You Came was another song that I only discovered in the early 00s --after I bought Kim's The Singles Collection. Quite a strong song! - I Don't Wanna Be A Hero was another of the "I Don't Wanna" songs of 1988 It was a minor hit back home, and a personal top 5. - Chains of Love was Erasure's first hit back home. It also made my personal top 5 and it's become an even greater classic with time nationally, and a personal 1980s favorite. - Dreaming was a national top 10 and their first personal chart-topper (although nowadays I like songs like If You Leave and Enola Gay more than Dreaming, this is still a strong effort.

Just about to enter the top 20 here. Most of these we already ran into, but some of these neeed Music Video showcasing. I obviously charted them a lot higher. 40. ? (Billboard HOT 100 #2) (DOC #5)39. Aerosmith - Rag Doll (Billboard HOT 100 #17) (DOC #6)The second of three Aerosmith songs to make my YE list. This song sounds perfect for the band. Bluezy, and Sleazy, 38. ? (Billboard HOT 100 #1) (DOC #5)37. Jeaneet & The New Dance - Feel The Energy (Latin Hi-Energy) (DOC #2)One of the biggest underground Latin Disco Club songs of the year. BTW, who got me into this music. My older cousins. They were into the Latin Hi-Energy scene. That's all they played at family parties. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJklEl1RA8Q36. Def Leppard - Animal (Billboard HOT 100 #9) (DOC #7)Def Leppard charted more than two songs in 1988 and they kept charting right into 1989. All the singles from 'Hysteria' made my top 10. 35. Nancy Martinez - Can't Wait (Latin Freestyle) (Billboard Dance #11) (DOC #4)Nancy Martinez had been around since 1982 singing under the name Jade. She had a top 40 hit on 1986 with "For Tonight" off the album "Not Just The Girl Next Door" Like many Freestyle artists, they mostly made more profits off 12 inch singles, so "Can't Wait" was released only as a Vinyl. This was huge in the Disco clubs. www.youtube.com/watch?v=08H3IfmetJk34. Icehouse - Electric Blue (Billboard HOT 100 #7) (DOC #4)One of the best examples of great music coming out of Australia. 33. Patrick L. Myles - My Heart's On Fire (Hi-Energy) (DOC #2)Released on Power records from Canada, this became one of the most played 12's in the Hi- Energy scene in clubs like Circus Disco in Hollywood Ca. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDXCn3aWd0432. ABC - King Without A Crown (Billboard Dance #17) (DOC #4)From one of the most popular New Romantic bands of the 90's. This was the third single off "Alphabet City", and IN my opinion even better than "When Smoky Sings" 31. Rick Astley - Together Forever (Billboard HOT 100 #1) (DOC #4)Rick Astley could do no wrong. His songs always so full of life. This was one of four songs I charted from rick in 1988. Three made my top 100 and there are two more to go. Those dance moves wee epic 80's.

A few songs that reached the top of my personal chart in 1988 but were out of the picture in the yearend Hot 100: - Boys, Boys, Boys (Sabrina): Samantha Fox was never a 'thing' back home except for a few teenagers however, Sabrina Salerno rapidly became a music and video sensation. This song debuted at #10 and flew to the top of the chart of our #1 radio station, where it stayed for 3 weeks. It was a very catchy pop song that moms would like, whereas teenagers would not hesitate in expressing their fandom of Sabrina, although often trying to make their moms see those few 'nipplegate' microseconds in the famous pool video This was a personal chart-topper as well, as I was still into this type of Italo disco. Many years later, Lady Gaga's Poker Face would bring back memories to this song for whatever reason. She'd have a couple of other hits back home, a cover of My Sharona (yup, don't ask), and Yeah Yeah Yeah (basically a Boys * 3 redux that sort of worked). - You Are The One (A-ha): Following the success of songs like Maybe, Maybe, A-Ha managed to get another big hit back home. A chart-topper in all radio stations (yearend top 15) and my personal chart. The song may not have the best aging, as it sounds a bit too bubble gummy, but I still appreciate its catchiness :) - New Life (Depeche Mode): For some unexplained reason, our #1 radio station decided to put in rotation this live version of New Life in 1998. I don't think the original version was ever a hit back home, and this was the first time I heard them, reaching the top of my personal chart - Just Can't Get Enough (Depeche Mode): And after NL, another radio station decided to put in rotation a live version of JCGE, which made my personal top 5 as well. LOVE DM (and this video is like seeing a model for Rick Astley lol) - Hole In My Heart (Cyndi Lauper): A top 5 back home, --and her 8th personal chart-topper! I don't think it's ever been included in any of her collections, as it was a song for the film Vibes. I may not like it as much as I did back in 1988, but just like The Goonies, I still think this rocks good enough :) - Kiss Me Deadly (Lita Ford): A big hit back home, and a personal chart-topper that would've made the top half of this RD. I still find it a good representative of the glam rock era - Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac): This was their third single back home, and even though it wasn't as successful as Big Love and Little Lies in our radio stations, it did click with me immediately, and I took it to the top of my personal chart, becoming the 3rd consecutive chart-topper. I bought the Tango In The Night cassette after listening to this song, and I played that one A LOT. I love the harmonies, music, melody. I remember I used to just play this song and daydream, relax. It put me in that mood --and still does. Also, Seven Wonders was the next single back home after Everywhere. It reached the top 3 of my personal chart and was also an underperformed back home. - Inside a Dream (Jane Wiedlin): She managed to get a top 5 in my personal chart -and a top 10 in radio- with Rush Hour. The follow-up, Inside a Dream, didn't do as well as RH nationally, but clicked with me immediately as well. Just like Everywhere, this was a dreamy, feel-good-and-happy song, and sometimes that's all you need in your teenage years. I got a digital version a few years ago, and it's remained in my mp3 players / iPhone ever since - Don't Blame It On That Girl (Matt Bianco): This was a hit back home in radio and music TV stations, and a personal chart-topper. i really liked the full Latino/salsa vibe of this song - I Come For You (Tam-Tam Go): They are a Spanish group which sang in English and Spanish. ICFY was the first single we heard, and it became a BIG hit back home (yearend top 15) and a personal chart-topper. This song brings back a lot of memories, so I'd still rank it pretty high. By the way, their follow-up single Lawrence's Heart had a version in Spanish. It was that version that became their second big hit --and it was a big deal because the lyrics were primarily about a suicidal transgender woman, Manuel Raquel

I had to boost Information Society because I know you all tanked it. I’ll make a crazy prediction: WOYM(PE) goes Top20 in this rankdown

Maybe I ranked this a bit lower. than I should have, but I always liked the other singles more from this. It's just all relative because the entire album is extremely strong.

I'm shocked that there are still 4 INXS songs left.
