Billboard 1988: The Rankdown (Winner Revealed)

Wow! Although it wasn't my number one song (which was NTUA by INXS) I'm glad to see my favorite band at number one. I'm also quite glad to see Father Figure as the runner up. Every time I do one of these there is a song that I rank around the middle due to me being indifferent to it that ends up growing on me a ton and this time that song was Father Figure.

#10. Heaven Is A Place On Earth - Belinda Carlisle
What a great way to start the top 10. This was infact Belinda's best song next to the Go Go's band.

#9. Shattered Dreams - Johnny Hates Jazz
Great song, and maybe one of the last British Pop bands to cross over into U.S. territory. This is a hell of a classy pop jam.

#8. What Have I Done To Deserve This? - Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield
Nothing to complain about when my favorite Pet Shop Boys song makes the top 10.

#7. Man In The Mirror - Michael Jackson
I didn't really flip for this song. His mini orgasms didn't work for this ballad style.

#6. So Emotional - Whitney Houston
I usually tank Whitney's sappy ballads, but this was no ballad. Also one of her best songs.

#5. Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
this is one of my super hated songs of all time. Right up there with some Imagine Dragons and Judah and The Lion. Sounds like one of those songs that one aspiring act plays for you while riding on a subway train or a bus. No thanks. Its the complete opposite of the type of music I like.

#4. Faith - George Michael
Songs from George Michael or Wham are mostly 100% flawless. 'nuff said.

#3. The Way You Make Me Feel - Michael Jackson
as his hits progressed so did his mini orgasms. I liked his unique style in early 80's, but I grew tired of it by 80's end. I will be much nicer to "Smooth Criminal" cuz that one has a killer bassline.

Class, Class, Class. 'nuff said.

Great winner. Not my favorite INXS song, but great winner. I'm just glad "Fast Car" didn't win. You guys had me worried for a while there.

I love everything about the 80's. The music, The hair, The 1000's of Horror movies, the coming of age movies, Arnold The Terminator and these 80's rankdows we are doing. Great job Unhinged . looking forward to 1989 which I'm putting the finishing touches on. For those who missed it, here is my complete top 100 of 1988. i'll blacken the songs that actually appeared on the Billboard Rank down in GREEN.  My top 10 are pretty much the same ones I had on PULSE list, so I'll only showcase the two songs from Lime and Def Leppard. All #1 songs too. Long live the 80's.
