What are some songs that sounded like surefire hits but were either never released/pushed OR were released but then got pulled shortly after. Don’t include songs from a recent album that haven’t been released yet but still have a chance to (i.e. Delicate by Taylor Swift)!
Some of my picks: - Carrie Underwood: “Wine After Whiskey”, “Choctaw County Affair”, “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted” - Kacey Musgraves: “Silver Lining” - Katy Perry: “Legendary Lovers”, “Roulette” - Alessia Cara: “Overdose” - Maddie & Tae: “Smoke” - Kygo: “Stargazing” (should have been released to US CHR!) - Taylor Swift: “All Too Well”, “Enchanted” - Kelsea Ballerini: “First Time” - Jason Aldean: “First Time Again” (with Kelsea Ballerini) - Tim McGraw: “Overrated” - Shawn Hook: “Reminding Me” (with Vanessa Hudgens) THIS ONE COULD HAVE BEEN HUGE LAST YEAR

I'll take a cue from Spectrum Pulse and say Desperado by Rihanna.
Oh also Seventeen by Alessia Cara. Not releasing a follow up single to Scars to Your Beautiful when it became the biggest hit of her career was a huge head scratcher.

Agreed on Secrets, Sparks and Legendary Lovers. Maybe Breathe on Me as well.
I've Got that Boom Boom from In The Zone.
Haunted from Speak Now.
Desperado from ANTI.

More confused why it even got a music video but still never got to be a single It's not like 1-800 was expected to go big So it's weird that it never got a push

Imo they could've easily coexisted though, especially if a fourth Cara single was released after SOTB fully peaked which was when Stay was already 10ish weeks into its chart run (iirc).

I don't understand how they fumbled Run Away With Me. It's a terrific pop song and it deserved a top 10 peak.

Hmmm.
The Weeknd: Party Monster. Would’ve performed a lot better than both Starboy and I Feel It Coming. Especially the former. Shame on the Weeknd for releasing two singles featuring daft punk back to back.
Dear GOD I could spend an hour on Rihanna.
Music of the Sun: Rush Let Me
A Girl Like Me: Kisses Don’t Lie Dem Haters (Who decided to release We Ride as a single?)
Good Girl Gone Bad: Breakin’ Dishes Good Girl Gone Bad Sell Me Candy
Rated R: FIRE BOMB The Last Song
Talk That Talk: Red Lipstick Roc Me Out (would’ve smashed tbh) Watch N’ Learn
Unapologetic: JUMP Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary No Love Allowed
ANTI: Desperado Sex With Me (this song SCREAMED to be a single tbh) Consideration
Lady Gaga: Disco Heaven Monster Scheiße Bloody Mary Sexxx Dreams A-YO
Sia: Numb Electric Bird Stop Trying The Co-Dependent Hurting Me Now Fire Meet Gasoline Hostage House on Fire Reaper Bird Set Free

The real issue in my opinion was turning the single releases after that into a s**t show. The entire album was filled with hits yet somehow it died without even earning a third hit.

Instruction by Jax Jones had some major smash potential, being a fun sounding summer song with Demi Lovato on it. Shame that potential was wasted.
Calvin Harris also had some major lost potential with his latest album. Rollin and Heatstroke should have been pushed more and had videos. Cash Out should have also been a single. It would have given DRAM a 2nd hit which he desperately needs. He also had some lost potential earlier with Dance Wiv Me and I'm Not Alone.
The US also shouldn't have made Tinie Tempah a one hit wonder. They REALLY shouldn't have made him one. Not Letting Go and Girls Like could have easily been smashes. Especially since Not Letting Go came out around when Rather Be was relevant and both have Jess Glynne. Same thing with Girls Like coming out around when Never Forget You did. (Both had Zara Larsson)
Also, Tinie should have released They Don't Know as a single for Youth. The song never fails to make me feel awesome and it had so much potential. And I know, it rips off the DJ Mustard format, but a solid hook and some great verses from Kid Ink, Tinie, and Stefflon Don all make the song an absolute banger.

I say this all the time but...
"Daydream," Avril Lavigne
Not leading with that is one of the biggest overall career mistakes ever.

Taylor Swift's Gorgeous could have easily smashed even though I think it's one of the worst songs on the album.

Had serious potential, but didn't get much of a push: Fleur East---Sax (I know it ended up on James Corden, but I never heard this on the radio even as a flyer) CL---Lifted (had strong potential as a summer jam, but why wait until fall?) Tinie Tempah w Zara Larsson---Girls Like
Not released in the US: Tinie Tempah w Katie B and the KDA---Turn the Music Louder Siglia w John Newman and Niles Rodgers---Give Me Your Love Jonas Blue---Perfect Strangers

My queen never gets the respect she deserves in a fair world every Florence song would be a worldwide smash and multi-grammy winner... but the world isn't fair. This one sticks out the most though because besides the music video there was no push at all. This is definitely her most accessible song from How Big How Blue How BeautifulThe fact that Lorde gathered 3 of 2017's hottest artists and created this masterpiece only to let it wither and die was... cruel. I remember reading that she fired her manager after Pure Heroine and looking back at whole this era went it was a huge mistake. This deserved to be the biggest selling album of the year, but I guess she'll just have to settle with knowing she produced a legitimate masterpiece.
