Shallow was for a movie. Still had a great run, and frankly, is always hovering in the Top 100 on Itunes almost 18 months later. is one of the biggest streaming hits for a female artist of all time.Fixed this for you

I think people are underestimating her streaming prowess... Million Reasons is her second most-streamed song and that wasn't even a big hit. So, imagine how much streaming she can milk out of a highly-anticipated return-to-form lead single? These premature obituaries are exhausting

I'm betting this is a revamp of the leak. I don't think she would let the song run around for months and then release it. I didn't like it that much but I'm still very hyped and excited for this!!

I wonder how she will fare on CHR and Hot AC? I think top 20 on Pop, Hot AC may get on board depending on the song (but Sweet But Psycho did really well on the format so Idk).
Her last top 10 was 6 years ago with Do What U Want since then, Million Reasons, The Cure and Shallow barely scrapped top 20.
On the other hand she has being doing well on Hot AC, Million Reasons was a top 5 I think and Shallow was a smash hit over there.

I'm still disgusted how US CHR treated Shallow. It's an iconic cultural moment - a song everyone knows, the best selling digital single of recent years, has 1BN Spotify streams and almost the same amount of Youtube views and still didn't get much airplay there.
I'm prepared that CHR will never embrace her again. She's 34 now, she should soon retire according to hit radio.

I'm excited to see how a straightforward Gaga single acts now. It will likely flop or under-perform, but god I feel like its so long since we have had a Gaga single that 1. Had a video with good visuals 2. Generally fit in with radio 3. Was released "normally" as a first or second single to capitalize on hype Do What U Want-Controversy, backlash, no video The Cure-Random single thrown out with no promo and no project, no video Perfect Illusion-Fucking awful and awful video Million Reasons-Sound far, far away from what radio was playing at the time, video so horrible I could barely finish it once, let alone rewatch Shallow-Soundtrack song with Bradley Cooper, sound not really what radio is playing John Wayne and GUY-both thrown out months after a project is basically done, good videos, but not enough to suddenly reverse course for the entire era
Like, its amazing to me how long I have waited in her career for her to release a fun, upbeat song with a good video to head up a new project when that seems "standard" for almost every other pop star in existence lol.

I don’t care how this does ultimately, I just look forward to having flamboyant and bombastic pop music on the air

Pffffft PI is amazing in all aspects An amazing flop. Lest you forget how the announcement of the album release date, the video, and even the album cover couldn’t stop the continuous 2-week streak of red updates on iTunes. Just tumbled off the Hot 100 like nobody cared. Yes, that was amazing.

The PI rejection was amazing indeed. Terrible single choice. JW should have been the lead.

Her track record hasn’t been great post-Artpop, but the majority of her material since then hasn’t really catered to the format. Do I think CHR should have taken “Shallow” and “Million Reasons” further? Yes… but they both managed to go recurrent (I think?) and that itself is a win considering where they peaked.
This will be her most radio friendly release in a while and she isn’t up against any immense backlash that I’m aware of. She sells well and A Star Is Born really helped her streaming. I’d be very surprised if CHR doesn’t take this (at least) Top 20.

A lead single by her would have smashed out of the gate six months ago following the ASIB hype. I think they dropped the ball there especially since they didn't release another full fledged single after Shallow.
She's still in a much better place now than she was going into Joanne so I wouldn't be surprised if this went Top on the Hot 100 since they're releasing the song and video at the same time.

I don’t fully disagree... but... she’s going into spring with a new album, just went through a big breakup, and prior to all that had the full awards circuit to deal with. From a life and schedule perspective... this seems like the best time for HER to focus on the album and promo. I feel like prior to now, she would have been disjointed.

If the new song is a Dance Pop song it will be hard for her to compete with Dua Lipa. Dua Lipa is the queen of Dance pop right now.

Literally no one talks about Dua. Gaga is going to suck up all the air within the next couple weeks.

Even if Dua's releasing the better songs... sigh. I hope this got revamped nicely tho. Remember when Gaga said she "knew how to write a pop song". Guess that's changed

She's about to return with top notch visuals too?! Thank goodness. While the John Wayne music video was interesting, she hasn't had a video with epic visuals since the Artpop days.
