I'm very pleased with how both of the first Journey rankdowns went down. There were laughs, there were arguments, there were not-so thinly veiled attempts at shading, and there has even been a poster ban (though not as a direct result of the Journey). All good things must come to an end, however, and Book III completes the Journey trilogy. Out of all three Journey Books, this is the one that I was most excited about from the beginning. I probably liked the individual songs on the second Journey more, but this third Journey is just complete chaos. If you think you know what's coming, you probably don't.
For the last Book, I wanted to take care of a couple of loose ends. The 90's have not really been touched on enough, and this Book is going to rectify that big time. We're also going to take a further look at the 2000's, where my music fandom was, arguably, at its peak. One noteworthy thing about this particular Journey Book is that there are no songs from this year. There are a couple of reasons for that, chief among them the fact that I am considering doing a rankdown for (some of) my favorite songs of 2017. The key word there is "considering". I'm not sure if I'll actually do it yet.
Want to go over the ground rules again? No? Well, too bad! Not everyone is a seasoned Journey veteran.
- Unlike with the first two Journeys, I won't be revealing the songs one by one. Why? Because a) I've technically already done it on Discord, and b) I want to get this Journey started. It's been long enough since I first started teasing it, and we just need to get this show on the road. I know, that means that there won't be 40 reveal posts, but I think you can forgive me this one time, right? Normally, this is where I'd say that the majority of the songs are alternative or rock-leaning...and I guess I can say that this is still the case, but the variety is just all over the place this time.
- There will be two different playlists posted: A YouTube playlist and a Spotify playlist. (Insert comments about the YT/Spotify playlists and the potential unavailability of certain songs here.) I have finished the YouTube playlist, but I have not finished the Spotify playlist just yet. I hope to have that done shortly.
- You will send your rankings (1-40, 1 for your favorite song, 40 for your least favorite) to me via PM. As of right now, I'm not sure what the deadline will be. Let's say...Friday, February 23rd by 10pm US Eastern, for now...so a little over three weeks from today. As with the first two Journeys, there will be a (likely) 24 hour or so late submission period after the deadline, so if you miss the deadline, don't fret too much! You will still have time to submit, even if it would be a very limited time.
- If you're not tagged below, it's because you did not participate in the first two Journeys. Even if you're not tagged, you are still more than welcome to participate! Anyone is welcome...even if one or two posters might not want that to be the case.
THE FORTY SONGS Chapter One: 90's Mainstream Rap 1) Skee Lo - I Wish 2) Coolio ft. L.V. - Gangsta's Paradise 3) Snoop Dogg - Who Am I (What's My Name) 4) Makaveli - Hail Mary

I really want to try and do this one because there are a few songs that I like a lot but there are way more that I do not know so if I find the time I will participate but I cannot guarantee that. Kinda excited about some of the songs in this that I don't think I've seen in any other rankdowns yet.

Okay because I did Book II I was probably going to do this one anyway but CHAPTER THREE ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION FOR ME and could possibly be my top 4. I don't even care about playing for #TeamBecky this time around. :kii:

We're typing in Georgia font, and you know what that means...THAT DIDN'T TAKE LONG AT ALL! Yep, it's time for the first of (hopefully) many B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATES! One ranking belongs to someone who participated in each of the first two Journeys (peacebone), but the other two belong to Journey first-timers (@humanshazam and singingrulebritannia). Hopefully, this won't be their last Journey rodeo, especially when we get into the Extended rankdowns. And there will be plenty of those, if my backlog is any indication. Now, how did these three rankings help to shape the early stages of the third Journey rankdown? Read on...
Some stats to consider: - Six songs have been in every top ten since the first ranking, including the top two. #1 has changed hands only once, and the current #1 has a three point lead over #2. Both songs have a(n early) double digit lead over #3...which, itself, only has a one point lead over #4, the previous #1. - Songs #5 and #6 are separated by a mere two points. - Songs #7-#9 are separated by just four points, with #7 and #8 separated by a single point. - As of right now, the gap between #10 and #11 is six points. - Five songs have been in every bottom ten, though a couple are pretty close to escaping the bottom ten in these early stages. - Unlike in the early stages of the second Journey, #40 has been pretty consistent early, having not changed over the course of the last couple of submitted rankings. The song is only seven points behind #39, however, so it's not like it's hopeless for the song to escape the bottom. - Things are a little more hopeless for #40 in terms of how far back it is behind #30, with a full ranking (40+ points) already separating #30 and #40. - And, of course, what would a Red Rankdown or a Red Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
The ties are happening often, as is the case early in a Journey rankdown. We were so close to sounding the alarm already, but it wasn't to be. Instead, we have ties at #11, #13, #25, #33, and all the way down at #38.

Ayyy, our first reminder of Book III! sniff It's so beautiful. The reason the reminder is coming sooner than normal is because, after an initial flurry, the submissions have slowed down to a crawl. I'm hoping this will get the ball rolling again.
(a little over) TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE DEADLINE.

Okay, so, another reminder. This time, we're much closer to the deadline than we were before. We did get one ranking from alexcuse, but we still haven't gotten enough to do another ballot update. I figured, though, that there'd be a deluge of rankings toward the deadline, so that part hasn't really changed yet.
ONE WEEK UNTIL THE DEADLINE.

We're typing in Georgia font, and you know what that means...LET'S GO SOMEWHERE AND BALLOT UPDATE TONIGHT! Yep, it's time for another B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! The three rankings belong to those who have submitted for the Journey before, with one belonging to someone who participated in the second Journey (rowellfarm490) and two being posters who participated in both previous Journey rankdowns (alexcuse and the one and only Green Baron). How did these three Journey veterans impact the ranking? Well, I'm glad you asked, one of you!
Some stats to consider: - The same six songs that have been in every top ten are still in the top ten after these three rankings. In fact, as of the last ranking, they're the top six. - #1 has, surprisingly, not changed since the last update, surviving (and, at times, thriving) through the course of this ballot update. Its current lead over #2 is 16 points. - Meanwhile, the songs at #2 and #3 were tied at one point, only for #2 to take the advantage by the end of the update, holding a slim four point lead over #3. - #8 and #9 are separated by a single point, and #8-#11 are separated by just four points. - Only two songs have been in every single bottom ten. In the reverse of the songs in the top ten, those two songs are currently the bottom two. - #40 changed during the course of this ranking, and it would remain that way at the end of the update...but things are tight near the bottom, with #38 and #39 separated by just one point. #39 has a "larger" eight point lead over #40, but that could change with just one ranking easily. - Things are also a little brighter for the current #40, as the song is less than 30 points behind #30. At the rate this ranking is going for the current #40, though, it will need to get some support quickly...or risk staying at the bottom. - And, of course, what would a Red Rankdown or a Red Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
clears throat Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to announce that, after a brief absence, we are SOUNDING THE ALARM! In fact, we're sounding the alarm TWICE, as we have ties at #6 AND #10. We also have ties at #15 and #31.

Listening to 4 rap songs in a row. Only for Pulse rankdown would I ever do this. BTW, which "Mother" are we ranking. The original or the live 93 version? It would make a difference just how high I will rank this song.

We're typing in Georgia font, and you know what that means...OH, BALLOT RANKIIIIIING! Yep, it's time for another B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! The three rankings belong to those who have submitted for the Journey before, with one ranking belonging to someone returning to the Journey fold after missing the second Journey (Beno), someone who submitted a ranking in their second straight Journey (Doc Indie Party Rock), and, in the case of Daryl the Beryl, someone submitting in their third straight Journey. How did these Journey "veterans" affect the ranking, especially with the diverse opinions of those involved in the ranking?
Some stats to consider: - The same six songs that have been in every top ten are still in the top ten after these three rankings. They no longer make up the top six anymore, but they are still six of the top seven songs in the rankdown. - #1 did not change yet again, though the gap between #1 and #2 is much smaller now. How small? The lead for #1 is just two points over #2. - One gap has increased, though, and that's the gap between #2 and #3, with 20 points now separating the two songs. In fact, #3 is much closer now to #4 and #5 than it is to #2, with #3 being five points ahead of #4 and seven points ahead of #5. - The bottom part of the top ten continues to be tight, with three points separating #8, #9, and #10. - Two songs continue to have been in every single bottom ten. Unlike the last update, neither song is in the bottom two this time. One is actually in (somewhat) striking distance of clearing the bottom ten, but it remains to be seen whether it will actually accomplish that feat. - The gap is now wider for the new #40 (and I mean new #40, it's a song that has not been #40 up until this point), now over ten points behind #39. #39 is much closer to #38, a song that it is two points behind, and #37, which is only five points ahead of #39. - Things suddenly got bleak for #40, too, with a full ranking not just separating #30 and #40, but a full ranking separating #34 and #40. Unless things can change in a hurry, #40 is probably going to be in the bottom ten at the end of the ranking process. - And, of course, what would a Red Rankdown or a Red Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
There are no alarms being sounded this time (womp womp), but there are still ties, and lots of them! Those ties can be found at #15, #25, #27, #29, and #35. That's right, every song from #25 to #30 is part of a tie.

A bit late on this reminder, but I've been a little busy lately, so I hope you guys do understand. As of right now, it looks like we will be starting Saturday, but we'll see. I would not 100% count on getting 24 hours after the deadline to submit, though. There may be a late submission period, but I can't guarantee that it will be 24 hours...so, if you're going to submit, I'd suggest doing it soon.
(almost) 48 HOURS UNTIL THE DEADLINE.

Didn't think I'd be posting again until after the deadline, but there's a good reason why: There's a chance I may start tonight instead of tomorrow, like I have with the previous two Journeys. So, here's the deal: Either in this thread or in a PM, I need you guys to let me know in the next...let's say 30 minutes if you're going to submit a ranking. If no one says anything, I might start tonight. Seriously.
In the meantime, here's a (very) brief survey for those of you who HAVE submitted!
- What songs do you think will make the top ten? - What songs do you think will make the bottom ten? - What songs have the highest SD? - What songs have the lowest SD? - How do you think your #1 will do?

No one has said anything about the possibility of submitting...so I'm closing submissions. I didn't think I'd be doing this, as I usually do a late submission period, but it turns out that I need to get this show on the road early, because I may not be available as much next week. If you were thinking about waiting until tomorrow to submit...my apologies.
We should get started as soon as I finish with my graphics.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages...it's time for the third and final main Journey roller coaster! Before we get to the first reveal, however, let's look at some stats for the 40 reveals, with a couple of notable quirks being mentioned here:
- The standard deviations range from 6 to 15. - There are more unique #1s than there are #40s. - Six songs were in every top ten from the beginning. - Two songs were in every bottom ten from the beginning. - Six songs have no bottom ten rankings. At least one isn't in the top ten. - Four songs have no top ten rankings.
And with that out of the way...it's showtime.
#40 never once left the bottom five, but this song actually avoided #40, for the most part, until near the end...but, once it got to #40, it didn't let go, staying there for the last three rankings. One unlucky poster will lose a top ten right from the onset (though it's not a high top ten), while seven posters will lose bottom ten rankings, with six of those being bottom five rankings, and a rankdown-high three of those being dreaded #40 rankings. Welcome to the shark tank.

Actually, no I think this is P.O.D. Not much support from rock or pop posters on this one, I expect.
