This is flopping so hard on Spotify. But it's doing decently elsewhere. Good for her.

I'd like to know if top placement on streaming playlists can be bought too, and how can unknown songs from unknown artists be placed in "Todays top hits" playlists when they're not hits to begin with. Would explain post malone and camila cabello's rise Labels can "promote" songs to be on bigger playlists, if you know what I mean. I don't think that was the case with Post Malone or Camila Cabello though. Can putting your songs on those major playlists be bought though? You’re getting a song to be listened to by millions which is absolutely critical, especially if it’s one of the first songs being played when you click “play” JFC How did Madison Beer get on TTH anyway 😂

Well she had a banner placement on Apple Music and was on the Hot Tracks list but the highest peak that I saw was 146. She’s no longer in the top 200.

I mean, "Africa" by Toto is currently #197.

I'm actually extremely perplexed about how this isn't even in the Top 200 in the US on Spotify... is spotifycharts typically an accurate resource? B/c it is crazy to me that this could be #1 on iTunes, but not even in the Top 200 on Spotify. I mean, "Africa" by Toto is currently #197. Well—Spotify has had their own troubles as of late...

If you look at its total from the desktop app, the numbers aren't great, so it's not a mistake. This song just isn't clicking with the streaming crowd right now.
This isn't unheard of either. Remember how poorly P!nk's Just Like Fire performed on Spotify? Now remember its sales and airplay run. Drastically different. It's no coincidence that this song happens to appeal to the same demographic as that one.

Meghan on the other hand I would think would cater for a younger audience so it is a bit confusing.

My peers don't have a strong opinion of P!nk and love to hate on Meghan. I think her core demographic skews much older than one would expect.

I like this song, catchy and fits her brand of sound in the All About That Bass era. No and Me Too felt a little contrived me to do different. I think this type of music suits her best. Although it really isn't the type of song that will do well on Spotify

Lol. Y’all think this is gonna be a hit without streaming support??? It won’t be able to crack the Top 30.

Bullet is huge but yeah, if it never does anything with streaming and its sales are already bottoming out I can see this stalling really fast and maybe peaking around where Justin hit a wall with Say Something. I actually really like the song now though. Its embarrassingly catchy lol.

I'm sure there's quite a large radio push going on this month, but yeah, if it doesn't translate to sales and streaming, it's not gonna cut it. And I personally don't think it will. She's no longer the latest thing, and she's not exactly "cool" is she? I think her main audience is small children and their parents at this point. No shade.
I'm always #teampopgirl, so I hope it smashes and we get a pop resurgence. Please gawd.

I feel as if she’s on her own this era, as in the label isn’t really supporting her, as someone said it’s a sink or swim situation. The video for this is cheapy
They really couldn’t get this on any big streaming playlist?

I mean if this roll-out is an artist being on there own/not supported by their label damn the industry is really changing. 2 high-profile performances in the debut week/video released the same day.... there's more to label support than just getting on Todays Top Hits playlist. I know I would KILL to see this kind of label support for my favorite artist when they release their first single.

I know I would KILL to see this kind of label support for my favorite artist when they release their first single. I might be the person he's thinking of re: 'sink or swim.' I said right before the song was released that I was curious to see if Meghan would have the label's full support or if they'd just kind of throw her out there. That said, right now I think it's still much too early to tell. Early signs point to Meghan having some budget constraints (cheap looking vid, no CC deal), but within that Epic is supporting her as much as they feel they can, maybe choosing to cut corners in a few areas so they can maximize the budget in others. Radio interview rounds will likely be coming soon too/have already started. I know she already did Elvis. Her dropping on iTunes doesn't alarm me much either (yet) - of course that is what is going to happen after her first week promo blitz has cooled down and her airplay isn't high enough yet to maintain a top 10 position. As her airplay steadily increases, hopefully her iTunes position will do the same. The streaming though...TTH is the holy grail of Spotify playlists so it's probably really hard to nab a top spot. But dang, she's not even on it! And there are other lists that she could be on. Right now I just see her buried near the bottom of Pop Rising. Did she even get a 'new music' spot on the front page for a day? I feel that's where her label is dropping the ball. I don't know how much streaming promo costs but some budget should have been allotted to that. Maybe it will come later, but I really think they should have tried to do more there as early as possible. (edit - after scrolling down far enough, I saw Meghan is the featured artist/first song on the Pop Matters playlist. Unfortunately this is not one of the bigger ones, but it's something.)

Oh my bad I didn't read the sink or swim comment I just was thinking regarding the label not supporting her. Reading back ya I get that they aren't treating this like an A-list release(CC deal/not on the TTH playlist)... but that's because she's not an A-list singer anymore and when I think of no label support I think of no video/no performances/basically just treated like a non-event. I'm also not really comparing fairly because when I said I'd love for my diva to have this kind of promo, I'm talking about Florence + the machine and they aren't a big pop group so its comparing apples to oranges. I just think this is a case that definitely falls in the middle of label being fully invested/not giving a fuck.

I don't think Meghan Trainor will be one of the leaders that resurgence but I still think this could be a big hit for her.

She had good promo on Apple Music (the top ad spot in the banner ad on the new music page plus on the Whats hot list) and still couldn't get above #146. So I'm not sure that having promo on Spotify would have done all that much. She might have made the bottom of the top 200 but likely fell right back off. Spotify users appear to be more pop friendly but not by that much.

This still isn't even Top 200 on Spotify, plus it's falling on iTunes?
I'll give these good updates another week or so.

I can see this going top 10 quickly (we can all have our own opinions on whether it's happening organically or not) and then tank just as quickly.
I say get that top 10 pop peak and move on if listeners aren't significantly streaming it by then.
