Interview on Most Requested Live right when it looks like the song has peaked on radio. I gotta admit that her team has been pretty smart with promoting this song. Yes, but when your song can't even break top 200 on Spotify it's probably a waste of resources. This kind of proves that radio is still mostly on board with her, but the streaming audiences aren't, at least with this kind of song.

At this point, they need to figure out if streaming audiences aren’t here for this song or aren’t just here for Meghan. If it’s the latter, I’d say just focus on sales and radio in the future, developing Meghan as a HAC artist. If it’s just the song streaming doesn’t like, then it’s time to move onto a new single.

When was the last time a song went number on iTunes but couldn't crack the Spotify 200?

If they aren't here for Meghan, then maybe she should reevaluate her whole sound and persona because even though this song is fun and catchy, it is clear that it's not her. There's no personality. Title and Thank You had personality, but this song is cookie cutter and wouldn't lose anything if sung by literally anyone else. Again, I like the song, but that doesn't meant I think it's something Meghan should be doing. It sounds like she wrote this in her sleep and decided "eh, good enough." I'd rather she sell songs like this to others and keep things like "Kindly Calm Me Down," "Hopeless Romantic," and "All About That Bass" for herself since those are much more clearly her rather than just a song she wrote.

Her brand is literally 'not objectively gorgeous but still sassy' which perfectly fits her and was good for a couple of quick lil singles but it got tiring. It sucks that once she tried to go more serious with Better she flopped harder than a Nicole Scherzinger single in 2009 but at least she got her coins while she could.

IDK her debut wasn't anything life-changing but she had a distinct personality in her music that I don't see anymore. She almost sounded more confident, in both her singing and lyrics. "Title" "Dear Future Husband" and even "all about that bass" sounded like she was in on the joke and playful but never desperate "this girl is just trying to get a hit" whereas this song just sounds like it came out of a pop-music factory.

I think this song is fun, nothing amazing. It sounds made for Radio Disney.

As far as remakes of No go, it's fine. Not quite a bop, but it will keep me tuned in.
I think it might have already peaked though on the Hot 100 and I suspect those gains will stop on radio.

I think “this song sounds like it came out of a pop music factory” hits the nail on the head.
Meghan’s songs were great because they WEREN’T perfect — and neither was she. They had genuine bite to them.
“No” has way more genuine bite to it than this, and No is like...not exactly a song full of teeth.

It sucks that once she tried to go more serious with Better she flopped harder than a Nicole Scherzinger single in 2009 but at least she got her coins while she could. To me, there's still this lingering issue of "why did she stop working with Kevin Kadish"? They clearly gelled in the studio, and it's mind-boggling that she wouldn't double-down on that connection. Like, I could see wanting to experiment with some other products, but in the wake of "Thank You" not performing so well, I thought it'd be a given she'd return to her original producer. Did he play hardball in negotiations? Is it because of him going public about how little he made off All About That Bass? Of course, since she has worked with him on a song or two since the debut album (and I believe gave him props in a Tweet?), maybe it IS her wanting to change up her sound. Maybe there's no "conspiracy" or "bad blood" here. And that's honestly even more baffling. He brought out a more honest -- and more commercially viable -- side of her than any of these other producers. Why would she wreck that? Producers DO matter. Lorde's sound clearly changed once she scaled back her Joel Little partnership, but the change was fine because she clearly has a connection with Jack Antonoff. Meghan doesn't seem to have a connection with these other producers/writers.

Surprised to see this still climbing while sitting so steadily on iTunes. I feel like it's supposed to be over like 5-6 weeks ago.

This is doing really well on HAC callout. Not necessarily shocking in itself but I was really surprised at how low her negative score was for the two weeks NE has appeared (only 10.5 this week and 12.2 the last; even for being the song with the lowest negative this stood out to me). 5th highest positive and second highest net positive, IIRC. The only drawback is that her 'favorite' score is also very low, but usually when a song has a low favorite it also has a low-ish positive b/c of people being neutral to the song. This doesn't seem to be the case with NE. She'll likely work her way up to top 5 there.
She hasn't reached top 40 callout yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the reason she's kind of lingering in this 14-16 range now is because of the conflict between how well NE seems to be testing on at least one format (and to a lesser degree maintaining a decent iTunes position) and how poorly she's doing in streaming. CHR may not be sure if it should keep or drop her. She's about to film her second video so Epic is probably gonna pull the plug in a few weeks, but keep pushing NE in the meantime so that there is no gap between the singles.

This has been selling decently I must say. It is clear that her audience is buyers and not streamers. I hope radio takes that into consideration.

Didn't Charlie co-write "See You Again?" That was a 12 week #1 back in 2015. . And that is his only #1. Lauren Alaina - Road Less Travelled - #1 on Country Rascal Flatts - I Like The Sound of That - #1 in Country

Has there been a song yet with this much disconnect between audiences? Oddly enough, the last time I remember a song having such a huge disconnect like this was "No" and "Me Too," but even then those weren't nearly as disconnected as this one! Even "Me Too" managed a top 100 placement on Spotify! "Just Like Fire" also comes to mind. It barely scraped the top 100 on Spotify, yet smashed in sales and call-out scores.
