I'm kinda surprised "In Some Corner" is still in, I didn't think it'd make it far. It was #20.

Y'all said this one could come this far, but it couldn't come into the Top 10. "You Can Come Over" is a slow-rolling song where the protagonist faces the facts that hooking up with someone she's been in an on-and-off relationship is just going to lead her toward heartbreak when he leaves again. As we get closer to the Top 10, the losses are going to sting more and more, and here we have nine Top 10 ranks that got shut out, several of which were Top 5s as well. "You'd stay just long enough To leave me again So you can come over But you can't come in"

Our first #1 loss happens with #12. And not only that, but it'll be 2 of you who are losing your favorite here!

Every one of these songs getting revealed is like "NOOOOO ONE OF MY TOP SONGS" and then I actually ranked it at like #13. Damn her catalog is so good

OK it's top half time, can we not let Hold My Hand get too far into it?
I don't dislike it, mind, but it's for sure the most plain song in her catalog.

This one flirted with the Top 10 for awhile, but ultimately it lost its footing near the end and slipped out. "Homecoming Queen" is an honest look at the harsh and un-glamorous reality of life that follows a woman crowned the homecoming queen, and thinking back to the naivety of that 17 year old girl in the parade. With its fall, we have our first song to receive a #1 rank be eliminated from the rankdown. Unfortunately it isn't just one poster who loses their favorite Brandy Clark tune here, as both George Strait Junkie and austin share in this loss. Despite a number of high ranks, this one was dragged down by a solid pocket of ranks in the 19-23 range. Also of note: Sheryl Crow recorded this first for her Feels Like Home album. "Newspaper clipping and a sash in a box Are the only things that didn't get lost She married a guy on the real estate sign And it's hard to believe once upon a time She was royalty The girl we all wanted to be"

EDIT: Phew, it wasn't my number 1. Good night of reveals so far. :)

We go back to Brandy Clark's debut project for the final song to miss the Top 10 of this rankdown, which is also the first of her six singles to be sent packing. "Pray to Jesus" is an unassumingly catchy little number with colorful harmonica fills over lyrics about going through life leaning on Jesus and the lotto as the main motivators to keep on trucking. Its departure brings us back-to-back #1 losses in this rankdown, and this time it's d3vin44 who is at the receiving end. A great number of upper half ranks are lost here, but another sizable pocket of lower teens/20s ranks brought it down just enough that it misses the Top 10 by ten points. "Don’t wanna be buried in debt or in sin So we pray to Jesus and we play the lotto Cause there ain’t but two ways We can change tomorrow"

Omg!!!! 😡
This song perfectly captures life in Brandy’s home town. I spent a lot of time there growing up. My partner is from Morton, population 500.
People don’t leave the town, they don’t Persue career’s but they do want out. So they PRAY TO JESUS AHD PLAY THE LOTTO! Because how the hell else are you going to change tomorrow!? Lol
I think it’s a hilarious song and done so well

So glad my #1 made the top 10, I was worried it wouldn't.
I loved Craig Campbell's version of "You Can Come Over" but once I heard Brandy's version there was no comparison anymore.
I'm torn on "Homecoming Queen", I like Brandy's voice on it better but Sheryl I think captures it slightly better.
"Pray To Jesus" is so fun, I love the hook so much.

I like Sheryl Crow's version much better than Brandy's but 'Homecoming Queen' is such an excellent song and had to be my #1. Glad it did fairly well here but it deserved Top 10.

Top 5 Prediction-In no particular order.
Soap Opera Girl Next Door Broke Love Can Go to Hell Big Day in a Small Town
PS. I'm still PISSED about "Pray To Jesus". My new theory is that it was probably the first song y'all listened to, as it is track 1 on her first album, and forgot about it when it came time to rank. Go listen again dammit!

Let's kick off our Top 10! Both of Brandy Clark's album openers went out back-to-back as the first song we lose is "Soap Opera," a fun uptempo with tons of clever puns/nods to daytime television in a song that celebrates the familiar message of small town gossip by way of a bartender and a hairdresser. This song probably had one of the strongest showings yet with only one bottom 5 expelled, though a large number of Top 10s are expectedly lost as well, but nobody's #1 this time! Passion wasn't particularly high for this one, but it was generally liked as most of the lower ranks were only in the mid teens. "Sherry shampooed 'til she got her own chair Now she's playing shrink to every head of hair"

Only two points separated this song from "Soap Opera" and it's only three ahead of the song that comes in 8th place, but it's "What'll Keep Me Out of Heaven" that is sent off to a better place (or worse in the case of George Strait Junkie who loses his #2). A sizable group ranked this one at the bottom of the teens, but this reveal becomes the first to escape placing in anyone's bottom 5. It's a pretty piano ballad talking about the moment before the protagonist makes the decision to cheat on her own spouse with a married man doing the same, tied together by one of Brandy's signature cutting hooks that highlights that what she's doing is so wrong but will feel so right in the moment. "Ten floors up he's waiting with champagne and candle light What'll keep me out of heaven will take me there tonight"

LOVE Soap Opera. Sad to see it go! Funny note, my boyfriend always sings “and also Barbara”. Sounds a lot like “in our own soap opera”. Lol

We bounce back to Big Day in a Small Town for another reveal. The chances of "Broke" making the Top 5 are shattered, but with it we finally see the loss of bboat11's and cerulean's #25 ranks (which means only singingrulebritannia still has his last place song still in play). Five people lose a Top 5 here though, so it's not all good news for most. One of Brandy's more rousing numbers, "Broke" is a humorous song about how poor the protagonist and her family is, with a lot of quirky lyrics and a funky, rougher production. "The jars all need pickles, the greens all need collard Been rubbing these nickels, but ain't got no dollars We dig our own ditches, we roll our own smokes And we're secretly wishing that grandma would croak"
