Year Released: 1980 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1 Billboard Adult Contemporary: #1 Billboard Hot 100: #1
One of Dolly's all time greats leaves just as we enter the top 5. This time dub see's their #1 exit; we also see three perfect rankings! The song comes from the movie of the same name that featured Dolly with the likes of Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. 4. Timber, I'm Falling In Love - Patty Loveless Total: 135 Average: 10.38 Std Dev: 8.56
Year Released: 1989 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
Patty Loveless is next to leave the 80's Ladies with her very first #1 from 1989. sabre14 might've had his top 10 savaged early on but he managed to see his #1 all the way into the top 4; three others placed this inside the top 5 with another three placing it inside the top 10. This song flirted with the top 3 and went back and forth quite a bit but it was Kanenrá:ke 's #27 ranking that ended up locking this one in at #4. This song was also highlighted by castleoblivion26's Patty Loveless rankdown and came it at #6 with myself, .indulgecountry , someguy , Kanenrá:ke , sabre14 , and Troublemaker all placing it in the top 10 there. {Songs Remaining}Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

3. Why Not Me - The Judds Total: 132 Average: 10.15 Std Dev: 6.88 (3rd lowest!)
Year Released: 1984 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
We say goodbye to The Judds as their second song selected for the rankdown "Why Not Me" exits just before the final 2. Everyone placed this inside the top 20 and it managed to have the 3rd lowest standard deviation. "Why Not Me" was the first single released from the album of the same name in 1984. The Judds went on to become one of the most successful acts in country music winning the CMA Vocal Duo/Group award every year from 1985 to 1991. They would also win five Grammy Awards including one in 1985 for "Why Not Me." {Songs Remaining}Whoever’s in New England Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

it's my #1 vs #8 and I'm pulling for my #1 to win but I wouldn't be upset to see my #8 win because I just didn't think it had a prayer.
I will say though that Patty should have been Top 3, I love The Judds and my #8 song but neither deserved to be higher. Just saying lol

2. Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That - Dolly Parton Total: 103 Average: 7.92 Std Dev: 4.75 (Lowest Overall!)
Year Released: 1989 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
Coming in just shy of the top spot is Dolly's 1989 hit "Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That." Overall this was the most liked song of the rankdown receiving one #1 ranking from .indulgecountry as well as four top 5 rankings; everyone ended up placing this somewhere within their top 15. This will always be one of my favorite songs from Dolly and I remember seeing it on CMT all the time. I could probably watch the video over and over again lol! This song went on to become Dolly's eighteenth number one and appeared on her album White Limozeen.
1. Whoever's In New England - Reba McEntire Total: 75 Average: 5.77 Std Dev: 6.13 (2nd lowest!)
Year Released: 1986 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
Most recently featured in bboat11 's Reba McEntire rankdown as a top 5 favorite there, "Whoever's In New England" comes out as the winner for the 80's Ladies of Country! This song remained #1 for the entire time and managed to stay below 80 points; it received four #1 rankings and four top 5 placements! This remains one of Reba's signature songs of the 80's and was a turning point for her career. She would go on to win the CMA Entertainer and Female Vocalist of the Year awards in 1986; "Whoever's In New England" would also receive multiple nominations.

Encore! We close out the 80's Ladies of Country with one final encore.
Patty Loveless "Chains" This was released in late 1989 as the fifth single from her album Honky Tonk Angel and would become her second #1 single in early 1990.
The Judds "Grandpa (Tell 'Me About the Good Ol' Days)" This song needs no introduction as it's one of their signature hits. I would've selected this song but I wanted to highlight a couple of their other great hits from the 80's.
Dolly Parton "Two Doors Down" I LOVE this song! It was released in 1978 so that's why it wasn't included for this rankdown.
Reba McEntire "Sweet Dreams" Prior to the tragic accident that took the lives of Reba's band she used to end all of her shows with the song "Sweet Dreams." It's only appropriate to close out 80's Ladies with Reba's live recording of "Sweet Dreams."

"Whoever's In New England" is definitely overrated.... as is Reba in general, sorry not sorry. I love her but definitely not her work as a whole.
That said, "New England" is definitely NOT a clunker. The chorus is GORGEOUS! I always think I'm meh on the song but then I hear the chorus and I'm like, nah it's beautiful.
So yeah not upset it won! There's just 21 other songs I wanted to win more lmao

Thrilled to see my top 2 was the top 2 here, even if they were in reverse order. I just love both of those songs so, so much. "Whoever's in New England" is my favorite Reba tune so I'm glad that it came out on top here since it didn't in here RD, but "Why'd You Come in Here Lookin' Like That" is one of Dolly's best hits imo and I'm a very big Dolly stan.

I'd really like to thank everyone for joining me in my first rankdown! The idea for this came one night when I might've had one too many glasses of wine while listening to K.T. Oslin's "80's Ladies" lol. I had a lot of fun doing this and have a newfound appreciation for all of the time everyone invests in hosting! I myself wasn't familiar with every song or artist that was selected for 80's Ladies, but I spent a lot of time with each one's discography and found a lot of songs I liked that I never would've listened to before. I hope you too discovered at least one or two songs that you liked!
Thanks again y'all!

LOVE Dolly! For me, "Jolene" is her best song. Easily one of my favorite songs of all-time. Absolute perfection. "Coat of Many Colors" is also absolutely breathtaking, from the music to the lyrics

I started working on that after I wrapped up my rankings for 80's Ladies and already have a name for the rankdown lol. Not sure when I'll roll that one out but it'll be sooner rather than later.

Yaaaassssss, absolutely flawless top 5 I am beyond shocked that "9 to 5" only made it to #5, as I pretty much figured the top 2 would be that one versus "Whoever's In New England" from the very first time I saw the song list. That being said, even though I love both of Dolly's songs, I love "Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That" even more, so I am beyond THRILLED that it managed to make it to #2!!! I am also pleasantly surprised to see The Judds do so well here. They are far from my favorite in pretty much any context, but both of their songs here were absolute classics. "Why Not Me" especially is one of those songs that has been around for my entire life, and will simply never get old. So glad it made the top 3! Not surprised Patty made it to the top 5, but I am also not surprised to see her leaving in the bottom of the top 5. "Timber" is great, but the bulk of her iconic work can be found in the '90s And finally, PERFECT WINNER!!! "Whoever's In New England" is one of the most classic 80s ladies songs, and was definitely the most obvious winner in this list. Reba is an absolute queen, and this was her first of many masterpieces. Her catalog proved just too tough for that song to beat in her own rankdown, but I am SO glad to add it to the list of rankdown winners after all because it truly deserves it

Thanks for hosting this Tim. It was a great list of songs, and an even better #1! I was surprised that "9 To 5" wasn't #2, or Dolly's highest song. "Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like Like That" is a great song, but it seems largely forgotten to me, so I'm surprised that it did so well here. I'm not complaining though, as I do quite like it. I would have liked to see Tanya Tucker do a bit better, especially "My Arms Stay Open All Night", but she does seem to be quite polarizing on here.

Sad I missed most of the reveals but damn that was a nail biter for me! I figured my top songs wouldn't compete for the win so I was just glad some of them did really well! I didn't think Sylvia would get that much support! Tim thanks for hosting! Can't wait for the next one!
