So is Keep Cool an indie label, right? And RCA is the distributer? I'm so confused now. Keep Cool is a joint venture between RCA and Tunji (along with 3 other co-founders whom we almost never hear about; one of them runs Khalid's management group and the other two are A&R/marketing execs). While it exists, it does more or less function as its own label which uses RCA for distribution and some funding, but it's not really correct to call it an indie. Since Tunji was still A&R'ing for RCA while running KC at the same time, most likely he will have to leave KC and any artist he signed there behind. What is unclear is what will happen to the JV once one party in the venture (Tunji) leaves. If the other three founders are still on board I suppose RCA can keep the JV going, but it could also decide at any time to dissolve it...if they dissolve do they keep all the artists (similar to how Sony kept all the J/Jive/Arista artists when those labels were folded) or let them go? Regardless, Normani doesn't (yet) give the impression that she is going to leave RCA or unhappy with them so trying to figure this out may be a moot point. She referred to RCA as "my label" when saying they were doing everything they can to get her onto the VMA stage so she might already have mentally moved on from KC.

What exactly is "doing everything in their power"? What must the label do exactly to secure a performance slot for one of their acts?

Sometimes it seems like she's just glad to be famous and doesn't care as much about her music career flopping.

Brandon Silverstein needs to be fired. Plain and simple. This. Sometimes it seems like she's just glad to be famous and doesn't care as much about her music career flopping. She has the hottest female R&B song out right now. hot take but that dress is one of the uglier things I have seen someone wear, its giving bird poop on a yellow plastic bag The forced hate. The dress is lovely.

If the weeks of NYFW, MET Gala, SavagexFenty Volume 3, and VMAs goes by without some kind of elevated Wild Side promotion or a lead up to something else
Her whole management team is literally a nightmare.
I loved seeing her in Venice though and think that visibility is good for her if something else follows. I don't think she wants to be imagined as solely a recording artist. She's an entertainer more broadly which is fine. So many entertainment careers include music but are more diverse (J Lo, Will Smith, Keke Palmer etc.)

So what happens if the song still tanks after the Vmas?. This isn’t the 90’s, the Vmas no longer have any impact. But they’ve made a big stink about them not booking her that I hope for their sake and ours that they get the results they’re looking for. It seems like she/her team were putting all their eggs in this vma basket that I fear another hiatus if the performance fails to ignite interest in her/this era.

I’ve given this chick a lot of chances but at this point I’m kinda over it. I know first hand it isn’t the label. I also know first hand she isn’t a pleasant person to work with which didn’t sit well when I saw her at the D&G show which was a tremendous letdown for a lot of people. She’s so talented and I want her to succeed but somethings off. Just give the reigns to Chloe Bailey at this point TBH although her lead single is awful. It’s just so disappointing…

Hopefully she will deliver other live performances after the VMAs, regardless of its impact. She is supposed to be a singer so I find it crazy she has only sung this song once thus far (that Don Julio Primavera performance), and we could barely hear her.

But it’s multiple people from within the industry. I was kind of shocked when I was told of some of the “episodes” she has had. And trust me, I love Normani so Im not someone coming to talk shit on her. As for D&G, just do a quick search of how racist, sexist, bigoted and homophobic they are - it’s shocking. The fact that some of the leading black women in music showed out to support baffles me. It’s disgusting IMO. And J Lo as well. WTF girl.
