I’m not too concerned about Normani. IMO her label knows they have the next big superstar on their hands and just don’t wanna mess it up. Once the material is there, she’s gonna soar.

I think she could pull off a Neyo type of midtempo, like a Let me love you or So sick

Forbes also wrote a separate focus article for Normani - Some Call Normani The Next Beyoncé—With 3 Billion Streams, This 30 Under 30 Breakout Is On Her Way- Fastest artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify before releasing a debut album - In February, Love Lies tied New Rules' record for longest charting song on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart (45 weeks) - Named the first global brand ambassador for Rihanna's Savage X Fenty line (I think S X F had a few Instagram ambassadors prior to this, but they weren't explicitly called as such. Presumably Normani's role will entail a bit more than what the Insta girls were doing) - Was featured in an NBA Christmas ad ( "Ballin' In a Winter Wonderland" commercial) What we can expect in 2020:- N1 is finally coming in the first quarter (according to her Fader interview), which almost necessarily means her album's second single this month. - Diamonds (Megan Thee Stallion feat. Normani) will be the lead single from the Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) soundtrack. The movie is being released February 7, but the video has already been shot and will also likely be released this month. Normani shared some stills from the shoot a few weeks ago. - She has mentioned a headlining tour (theatre size, I presume) in multiple interviews. - Maybe we will get a collaboration with Dua Lipa. A snippet of a song titled "If It Ain't Me" leaked in December, but was later verified to not be the slated second single from Dua's album. As of now there is no outright confirmation that the full song (or any Dua/Normani pairing) will make Future Nostalgia's final track list.

Motivation received an NAACP nomination in the Outstanding Song – Contemporary category.
Dancing With A Stranger received two iHeartRadio award nominations - Best Collaboration (not fan-voted) and Best Music Video (fan-voted). Her choreographer, Sean Bankhead, also received an iHeart nomination for Music Video Choreography (Motivation) and her photographer, Blair Caldwell, was nominated for Favorite Tour Photographer (Sweetener World Tour). Both of those categories are fan-voted.

Video is great, song is aight. I wish she was singing on it more or that it was Normani featuring Megan. The "diamonds are a girl's best friend" part kinda irks me because it sounds SO much like Ariana. I was hoping for a bit more. But I don't hate it. It's better than Ariana's Charlie Angels song... But yes, Normani is a star. She looks and dances incredible in the MV.

How is no one talking about this BANG of a song and video??? She sounds, looks and moves so f**king perfectly. That's a look and a sound. Megan is killing on it also, her flow got much better. We're in the song thread! (currently in the non-radio singles section) Video is great, song is aight. Normani's tone is similar to Ariana's on certain things (some other people first picked up on this with Bad To You and there are bits in Motivation where people thought Ariana's voice had been left in the background but in retrospect I believe it's all Normani) and it still catches me off guard a bit whenever that similarity pops up because I don't think it's intentional at all. I do think Diamonds sounds and looks like everything DCMA was supposed to sound/look like and did not.

I need to watch the video because i am not really feeling that song. Sounds messy and ITA agree with the Ariana comparison. I actually thought it was her.

The "Diamonds" video is amazing! What a budget. I also really like the song too. Normani popped off!
Also it was stated above that "Motivation" was the lead to the album, but I honestly don't think it is? I don't think it was ever intended to be the lead because of the fact it was stated that she only released the song because the VMA's wanted her to perform. I can see it being left off the album or slapped on as a bonus track.
Anyway looking forward to her next single. I can see her releasing the album in April to be on par with Dua's album if the collaboration is indeed on the album. Last time I checked, It was and they recently sent in the finished album so I think it's safe to say we're getting it.

I can see it being left off the album or slapped on as a bonus track. Yeah, in retrospect I think most people/media simply assumed it was the lead because of the timing with her coming off the Sweetener tour and DWAS being done. Normani never corrected anyone on this even when telling us the album was being pushed to 2020, but she also never directly referred to it as the 'lead' when talking about it. I wish she and RCA had just been upfront and said 'hey, the album is still not ready but we've got this great new song that we just couldn't pass up.' No one would have side eyed them for wanting to keep her in the public eye and it would have quelled her fanbase's impatience without accidentally leading to confusion and disappointment when the song didn't get the full treatment it deserved. I think it will still be be tacked on to the end of the album for the SPS, though. On a related note, I am really hoping I'm right about my hunch that her 'real' lead is coming by the end of this month, because I'm getting the growing feeling that Atlantic is not going to push Diamonds hard (or at all) and that is just going to heighten the impatience as we continue to wait for the 'real' Normani single to finally get its moment.

Is Diamonds being released as a single? or is it just promo at this point?

Is Diamonds being released as a single? or is it just promo at this point? I don't believe so. It's rumored the lead single to her album is releasing this month so it wouldn't be the smartest move.

ugh...so a feature with the hottest female rapper at the moment will just be used for promo? oh ok. Her team is starting to frustrate me.

ugh...so a feature with the hottest female rapper at the moment will just be used for promo? oh ok. Her team is starting to frustrate me. One could wield that same criticism at Megan's camp too; it's not like Megan has crossed over yet. "She hopped on a CHR-friendly song with a rising pop star just to write it off as promo?" This is not to defend Normani's team necessarily, but my main bone to pick with them (wherein 'them' = management, not label) is the lack of transparency or clarity about their moves, much more so than the moves themselves. I think a lot of decisions since LL have more or less been 'album not ready yet? Ok, let's make sure you stay paid in the meanwhile' - which is completely understandable - but unfortunately in the pop world, if people don't know exactly what you're doing they just assume it's because you don't know what you're doing either. I'm sure both Megan and Normani's teams went into Diamonds thinking it would be a good look (or at the very least a nice paycheck) but they can't make Atlantic put more effort into it. I am hopeful that we eventually get a performance or two though. Maybe they have something planned for the movie's release week. The film release itself might give the song a boost since a large number of people will (hopefully) be hearing it in the trailer or end credits.

Hope she releases something in the vein of Work From Home, or a new kind of banger. Her choreo is always amazing so it’d be perfect.

I want a New Orleans / Cajun album with bells, horns and whistles, kinda what Beyonce was attempting with B'Day and Formation. Motivation was the perfect starting off point for something in this direction.

Motivation came out 8 months ago, where is the follow up? I hate RCA. August to February is 6 months sis! There was a supposed insider on ATRL who said the single was coming in February, but that a lot of people at the label haven't heard it yet because she's guarded with her music. idk how reliable that source is as I don't frequent ATRL but that's all I got. Oh, and she is also on the cover of Wonderland for their spring 2020 issue, but I'm too lazy to sit upright and post the pic. Probably better to wait until the full interview is out anyway.
