The genre of rap is one of the best things ever added to music. It is creative, catchy, and sometimes even meaningful, and can say just about anything. Because I love this powerful genre so much, I decided to make a rankdown out of it, something I've wanted to do for a while now. So I present to you... PREDS PRIDE'S REMARKABLE RAP RANKDOWN
This will be a personal rankdown, my second to be exact (I'll try to finish my other one tomorrow), as I picked out 50 songs I feel are great choices to represent the genre of rap. I picked 20 classics, or songs released before 2000. These songs really got the genre of rap started and made its reputation a good one in my opinion. I picked 20 songs from the 2000s, as that is when rap music was at its peak. There was a perfect mix of slower, lyrical songs and uptempo crunk songs. I picked out ten more recent songs because there was still a lot of good rap from that time. I might be posting honorable mentions from time to time as well, but no guarantees. If you're interested in seeing how great these songs are, here are the steps to follow: 1. Wait until I finish revealing the songs. I will reveal five songs a day and give hints beforehand. If you'd like to be tagged for the reveals, let me know. 2. Once all 50 songs are in place, be sure to listen to/get familiar with the songs you're unfamiliar with. 3. Rank these songs #1-50, with 1 being your favorite and 50 being your least favorite. You can use the preference revealer to help you. 4. Send a PM of your rankings to me (@pjscott11 ). If you are a part of the Discord server, please refrain from sending me your ranks from there, as I think it's easier to handle them here. **When you send your rankings, please number the list #1-50. Also avoid spaces between songs if possible.**{Songs revealed} 1. Kanye West/Chris Martin - Homecoming 2. Outkast/Sleepy Brown - The Way You Move 3. Drake/Rihanna - Take Care 4. Clues for songs #1-5:
1. Not a very well-known song but has lots of fans here. It's by one of my favorite rappers and features the singer of a popular alternative band. (2000s)
2. The first of two songs from an artist on this rankdown. This song was on the 2000s decade-end list and finished in the top 10 of a year-end rankdown here. (2000s)
3. Has won two rankdowns here, one of which I hosted. (2010s)
4. This rapper wasn't that popular, but was very acclaimed by critics. This song has a reference to his home state in the title. (1990s)
5. I picked this song because this rapper is from my hometown. Diddy, Akon, Ludacris, and Lil Jon were on a song with a similar title. (2000s)

I'll reveal songs around this time every day. 1. Heard Em Say - Kanye or Homecoming - KanyeYes! SONG #1:KANYE WEST/CHRIS MARTIN - HOMECOMINGReleased: 2008 Hot 100 peak: #69 Album: Graduation- Kanye West "Homecoming" is a song by American hip-hop recording artist and record producer Kanye West. It was included as the twelfth song on the track-listing of his third studio album Graduation (2007). The track was produced by West with Warryn Campbell and features a guest appearance from Chris Martin, lead vocalist of the English alternative rock band Coldplay. Chris Martin sings the song's chorus and plays a gospel-tinged piano motif. Kanye West wrote "Homecoming" as a tribute dedicated to his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. His conceptual lyricism expresses an extended metaphor in which he personifies Chicago as a childhood sweetheart in order to convey his relationship with the city.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Right artist, wrong song. SONG #2:OUTKAST/SLEEPY BROWN - THE WAY YOU MOVEReleased: 2003 Hot 100 peak: #1 Album: Speakerboxxx/The Love Below- Outkast "The Way You Move" is a song recorded by Big Boi of the American hip hop duo OutKast, released by LaFace Records. The song features OutKast mentor Sleepy Brown on guest vocals. Along with "Hey Ya!", recorded by OutKast's other member André 3000, "The Way You Move" is one of the two lead singles from Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, OutKast's double album project which includes a solo album from each member.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #3 is Take Care by Drake. SONG #3:DRAKE/RIHANNA - TAKE CAREReleased: 2012 Hot 100 peak: #7 Album: Take Care- Drake "Take Care" is the title track from Canadian rapper Drake's 2011 album of the same name. The song features guest vocals from Barbadian singer Rihanna. The song samples Jamie xx's remix of Gil Scott-Heron's version of "I'll Take Care of You". "Take Care" was released as the fifth single from the album on February 21, 2012. It is a club song about a couple in a relationship acknowledging they have been hurt in their past, but will look after one another.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Is 4 Nas - N.Y. State of Mind Yep! SONG #4:NAS - NY STATE OF MINDReleased: 1994 Hot 100 peak: N/A (wasn't a single) Album: Illmatic- Nas "N.Y. State of Mind" is a song by grammy award winner hip hop recording artist Nas, taken from his debut studio album Illmatic (1994). The song's production was handled by DJ Premier who sampled two jazz songs: "Mind Rain" by Joe Chambers and "Flight Time" by Donald Byrd. Premier additionally scratches vocals from Eric B. & Rakim's "Mahogany" for the song's chorus. Nas raps two verses on the song in which he talks about his rapping talent and describes the dangerous environment that is the city of New York. Nas has attributed the song "Streets of New York" by Kool G Rap as one of the song's primary influences (Kool G Rap would later sample this song, plus give Nas a guest spot on his album 4,5,6). A sequel to "N.Y. State of Mind" can be found on Nas' 1999 album I Am.... An early version of the song can be found on Nas' demo tape under the name "I'm a Villain". It was rumored that a track entitled "N.Y. State of Mind, Pt. III" was scheduled to be released in Nas' upcoming album "The Lost Tapes 2", but it is unknown if this is true. The entire first verse was recorded in one take.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5 is Young Buck - Get Buck SONG #5:YOUNG BUCK - GET BUCKReleased: 2007 Hot 100 peak: #87 Album: Buck The World- Young Buck "Get Buck" is the second single off American rapper Young Buck's second album, Buck the World. It was released on February 13, 2007 through G-Unit Records. The track was produced by Polow da Don. The trumpet and baritone horns on the song were performed live by Siraaj Amnesia James. It was the only track off the album to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #87.

Clues for #6-10:
6. This was the song that got Busta Rhymes in the spotlight, although it never reached the top 50 on the Hot 100. (1990s)
7. This short song was from a duo made up of a Wu Tang Clan member and another rapper that frequently collabed with the Clan. It was also in the Evolution of Hip Hop video on Youtube. (1990s)
8. This multi-week Hot 100 #1 might have made Eminem a thing again. (2010s)
9. The Wu Tang Clan rapper from song #7 rapped the chorus on this early 90s classic. (1990s)
10. One of the rappers of this duo sadly passed away last June. This was their highest-charting single of the 90s. (1990s)

6 is Scenario by Tribe Called Quest SONG #6: A TRIBE CALLED QUEST/LEADERS OF THE NEW SCHOOL - SCENARIOReleased: 1992 Hot 100 peak: #57 Album: The Low End Theory- A Tribe Called Quest "Scenario" is the third single from A Tribe Called Quest's second album The Low End Theory. The song features members of Leaders of the New School. Matt Cibula of PopMatters called the track hip hop's greatest posse cut. The song is commonly considered a breakout moment for Leaders of the New School member Busta Rhymes, who was 19 when this song was released.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 7 is Method Man & Redman - Da Rockwilder SONG #7:METHOD MAN & REDMAN - DA ROCKWILDERReleased: 1999 Hot 100 peak: N/A Album: Blackout!- Method Man & Redman ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SONG #8:EMINEM/RIHANNA - LOVE THE WAY YOU LIEReleased: 2010 Hot 100 peak: #1 Album: Recovery- Eminem "Love the Way You Lie" is a song recorded by the American rapper Eminem, featuring Barbadian singer Rihanna, from Eminem's seventh studio album Recovery (2010). The singer and songwriter Skylar Grey wrote and recorded a demo of the song alongside the producer Alex da Kid when she felt she was in an abusive romantic relationship with the music industry. Eminem wrote the verses and chose Rihanna to sing the chorus, resulting in a collaboration influenced by their past experiences in difficult relationships. Recording sessions were held in Ferndale, Michigan, and Dublin, Ireland. Backed by guitar, piano and violin, the track is a midtempo hip-hop ballad with a pop refrain, sung by Rihanna, and describes two lovers who refuse to separate despite being in a dangerous love–hate relationship.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For the first time, no one got this one. I guess no one got the hint that it was a Wu-Tang Clan song. SONG #9:WU-TANG CLAN - C.R.E.A.M.Released: 1994 Hot 100 peak: #60 Album: Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)- Wu-Tang Clan "C.R.E.A.M." (Cash Rules Everything Around Me) is a song by the New York hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan, from their 1993 studio album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). The song was produced by Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA, and samples The Charmels' 1967 song, "As Long As I've Got You". "C.R.E.A.M." was released as a single through Loud in early 1994.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 10. Shook Ones Pt. 2 - Mobb Deep SONG #10:MOBB DEEP - SHOOK ONES, PT. IIReleased: 1995 Hot 100 peak: #59 Album: The Infamous- Mobb Deep "Shook Ones (Part II)" is the lead single from Mobb Deep's 1995 album The Infamous. In 2010 Pitchfork Media included the song at number 25 on their Top 200 Tracks of the 90s. Rolling Stone magazine placed the song on its list of The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time. The song is a sequel to the group's 1994 promotional single "Shook Ones", with similar lyrics, but less profanity. The original song is featured on the b-side of some releases of "Shook Ones part II" and was also included on the international version of the group’s album Hell on Earth. The song is told from the perspective of inner-city youths engaged in territorial warfare and struggling for financial gains. Complex ranked "Shook Ones (Part II)" at #23 on their list of the 25 most violent rap songs of all time.

Hints for #11-15:
11. The debut single from a very popular 90s rapper who later had two posthumous #1 hits. (1990s)
12. All haters of this artist's first top 10 hit can "get out da way"! (2000s)
13. A Pete Rock-produced song off of song #4's album. (1990s)
14. The second single off of an Eminem album that was certified platinum, but now the radio won't even play this jam. (2000s)
15. You probably know this song, just not the name of it. It sampled the #1 song of a late 70s year. (1980s)

Shot in the dark for 15: Run DMC - It's Tricky. It's the only particularly well-known song I could find from the 80s that samples any of the Billboard Year-End #1s for 1975-1979 (the sample being "My Sharona"). Though if it is that, I don't know why the " just not the name of it" part is there--the title's pretty obvious. So I'm probably wrong

It contains a sample of Mtume's "Juicy Fruit" released in 1982, but is directly sampled from the song's "Fruity Instrumental" mix, and has an alternative chorus sung by girl group Total. The song is considered by Rolling Stone, The Source and About.com as one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SONG #12:LUDACRIS/MYSTIKAL/I-20 - MOVE BITCHReleased: 2002 Hot 100 peak: #10 Album: Word of Mouf- Ludacris "Move Bitch" (edited version titled "Move B**ch" or simply "Move") is the fourth official single from American rapper Ludacris' album Word of Mouf. It is considered by music critics as one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever recorded; About.com ranked it seventh greatest rap song of all time. It reached #13 on the Hot Rap Singles chart in 1994. The hook was sampled from Ahmad Jamal's 1970 released song, "I love music", which appears at 4:50 and ends at roughly 5:10.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 14. Two decades after the song's release, The Knack sued Run-D.M.C. on the grounds "It's Tricky" sampled their song "My Sharona" without permission.

Clues for #16-20:
16. The first of four rap #1s from a rapper who has already had 1 song revealed. (1990s)
17. A #2 hit on the Hot 100 by the brother of a popular rapper of this time. It was also on the soundtrack for a movie that 2Pac starred in. (1990s)
18. Called by many people, including me, as the best rap song of the 2000s. Has won one rankdown and came close in a few others. (2000s)
19. Wasn't very popular, as it never got past the bottom third of the Hot 100, but it was noted as a diss track on a rapper who had multiple songs on the 2000s decade-end list. (2000s)
20. A very meaningful song that was the fourth of five singles from a "lyrical" rapper's 2015 album. (2010s)
