Finishing at #4 is the first of 3 songs to stay in the top 10 throughout the entire submission process. It was able to reach #1 both early and later on but slipped down to #4 at the end. Its 3 #1s are the most for any song in this rankdown. 4 other people had the song in their top 5. Only 3 posters had the song outside their top 30 but 2 of these were bottom 30s.

Up next at #3 is the song with the 10th lowest standard deviation. This song missed being in the final 2 by only 3 points. It is the last remaining song to not have been in the top 10 the entire time. It kept climbing higher and higher in position reaching its best point now. Another #1 goes down with this reveal. 2 more people had the song in their top 5 along with 2 other top 10s. Its only ranking below the top 40 was a bottom 30.

2 vs. 9
Well, at least the top two came down to two songs in my top ten. I'm rooting for one song in particular, of course, but the other song has a pretty strong narrative. Either would be an interesting result.

So, who will be the winner of the 2005 Active Rock rankdown? Neither 10 Years nor Queens of the Stone Age have won a rock rankdown before. Both "Wasteland" and "Little Sister" have improved on their previous best rankdown performances with "Wasteland"'s being a #3 in Active 2006 and "Little Sister"'s being a #4 in Alternative 2005.
Both songs were in the top 10 the entire way and both reached #1 with the winner spending most of its time there. #1 ultimately beat #2 by 59 points. One of these songs had an average standard deviation while the other had the 2nd lowest. There were only 2 bottom 50s between them but one was a bottom 10.
@humanshazam is the last poster to still have their #1. Will his #1 win or will it fall just short of the title. Find out in a few minutes.

I hope "Little Sister" wins, since it's the one I ranked higher.

"Wasteland" may have had the narrative, but highest ranking in the top ten is highest ranking in the top ten. Queens at the top, finally!
Another solid rankdown hosted, Rowell. As always, you did a great job hosting. Until you host again.

The Active Rock 2005 Year-End Rankdown is now complete! Thank you to all who participated and followed along as our collective ranking of the top songs of active rock for 2005 was unveiled. I hope you had fun and maybe even discovered some new music along the way.
The rock rankdowns are temporarily on hiatus so there will be a break before the Alternative 2004 and Active 2004 rankdowns start up again. If you want to get a head start on the Active 2004 list here is the spotify playlist (thanks to Daryl, of course):

10. So Cold - Breaking BenjaminStarting off the Top 10 with one of the best songs off that list of ten songs, doesn't get my expectations high. For me; This on also ranks with Nickelback's "Because Of You" and Alter Bridge's "Broken Wings" . A Good song, but not mind blowing. 9. B.Y.O.B. - System of a DownFinally. That MV thumbnail alone should have warned me of what was in store. At least I never again, have to listen to this song, by choice. 8. Panic Prone - ChevelleIt's crazy, but I enjoy the; First time listens from this band, much more than the ones I've already heard. Not bad for an Alt metal ballad. 7. The Hand That Feeds - Nine Inch NailsWhat can I say? Not a big fan. 6. Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day...and there goes my last top 10 song remaining. My #1 song from the Alt rankdown. Incredible song by an incredible band. This one, "Longview and "Basket Case ,are my top 3, favorite Green Days songs. 5. Best of You - Foo FightersGreat song, depending what other songs, are on those years, songs like "Monkey Wrench" and "Everlong" will end up very high on my lists. "This Is A Call" is also one of my favs. 4. Vitamin R (Leading Us Along) - Chevellenever a big fan of this song. The intro never hooked me. 3. The Clincher - ChevelleMuch better song. Fiercer guitar hook, and damn good chorus. I did chart this one with a top 50 , peak of #30 2. Wasteland - 10 YearsAnotherone of those songs that fail to hook me from the intro. 1. Little Sister - Queens of the Stone AgeVery nicely done. This is how to hook me. A "Cowbell" intro always does the trick. This one was hot from the start. Great job by rowellfarm490 . Loking forward to the next one. I also like to think I'm soly responsible for some of these "Highest standard deviations:" in particular these songs. 5. Cold : 32.269 10. Dirty Little Thing : 30.964 15. So Far Away : 29.745

damn that Rock list is scorching hot. I always try not to repeat the same songs in my top 10, and just by looking at that list, I don't think I'll have to.
I'm also not surprised I come in very high in year end closeness to chart, and in last place with pulse. I was very mainstream back then, and so were the rock fans around me.

For 2004, it's possible that I'll be ranking songs I love in the 40s and 50s, and songs I like all the way down in the 80s. Great year for rock music.
