Active 2005 Ballot Update #3This third installment of the Ballot Update features two less frequent contributors to the Active Rankdowns in Pale Shelter and @jamesflame ! Joining them is someone who is participating in their very first Active Rankdown: Cody ! (You'll be in the next update, Daryl the Beryl , if there is one.) Let's see how this group has shaken things up...
-The #1 position is starting to stabilize now as the top song did not change since the last update. Our #1 is currently leading #2 by 17 points. -#4 through #7 are up for grabs as these positions are separated by less than 10 points. -2 songs re-enter the top 10 during this update while another top 10 mainstay now finds itself on the outside looking in. -4 songs have been in the top 10 after counting each ballot. -Songs #11 to #15 still have a good chance at making the top 10 as they are within 50 points. 18 different songs have been in the top 10 at some point.
-On the other side of the Rankdown, we finally have a new #100. The bottom position changed twice during this update so now 3 different songs have been at #100. -Our current #100 trails #99 by 18 points. #100's climb beyond is more formidable as it is 60 points behind #98. -2 songs which first entered the bottom 10 during last update made their escape this go around. Taking their place are 2 songs that find themselves in the bottom 10 for the first time during a ballot update. -5 songs have stayed in the bottom 10 the entire way. -Songs #85 through #90 are all in danger of meeting their demise in the bottom 10 as they are within 50 points. 18 different songs have been in the bottom 10 at some point.
-The top 17 all have over 700 points with the top 5 having all reached 800 points. The bottom 29 have yet to reach 400 points. -No song in the bottom 10 has gotten to 300 points yet and the bottom 4 are all below the 200 point mark. -The highest and lowest standard deviation have changed since last update. The highest SD sits at #84 while the lowest SD is our #100. -There weren't as many huge swings in position this update with it being later in the submission process. -#57 made the biggest gains jumping 18 spots. Another 11 songs improved in position by 10 or more spots. -On the flip side, #55 was hit the hardest, sliding down 24 places from last update. 10 other songs fell 10 or more spots.
-And now for Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
-There isn't as much excitement this time around although there is a 3-way tie at #42. There are also ties at #19, #59, and #76.

We're about to enter the familiar realm of rankdown deadlines. There are now less than 24 hours left to submit your lists! If anyone is working on their list and needs a bit more time just let me know. With the Alt rankdowns temporarily on hiatus I can give some extra time. Active 2005 Ballot Update #4 This quick ballot update features the lists of Daryl the Beryl , American Idiot , and Az Paynter !
-Even though the #1 hasn't changed, it's victory is far from set in stone. It only has a 5 point lead over #2. Any of the top 5 could come out on top here as the #1 is only ahead of #5 by 14 points. -Another top 10 mainstay has made its exit leaving only 3 songs to be in the top 10 the whole time so far. Re-entering the top 10 to take its place is a song that was briefly in the top 10 very early on. -Only #11 is within 50 points of the top 10 now.
-The #100 has changed again, this time reverting back to a song that was there before but only for a short time. It is 7 points back of #99. The bottom 2 are way behind the rest of the pack with #99 trailing #98 by almost 90 points! -A song that's been hovering above the bottom 10 has fallen in for the first time while another that entered last update has found sanctuary for now. -5 songs have stayed in the bottom 10 the entire way thus far. -Songs #84 through #90 are all in the danger zone as they are within 50 points of the bottom 10.
-The top 40 have all broken 700 points with the top 10 all exceeding 1000 points. -The bottom 23 have failed to reach 500 points with the bottom 4 being the only ones not to earn 300 yet. -The songs with the lowest and highest standard deviations have changed. The lowest sd is at #100 while the highest sd is at #28. -Both #54 and #57 had an excellent update as they fly up 20 spots. 7 other songs ascend 10 or more places. -#75 had the worst update diving down 19 positions. 9 other songs descended 10 or more places.
-And now for Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
-Once again there's no reason to sound the alarm but there is another 3-way tie at #21. Also joining in on the fun are ties at #17, #36, #51, #58, #80, and #90.

Is there a specific time you're gunning for? If I'm going to start tonight then I'd need the lists by 9PM EST. I already told a different poster who may or may not get their list in by then that I will wait for them. If the lists come in too late then I'll probably postpone the reveals until tomorrow night.

Your time has come to submit your lists. 4 hours remain before the deadline. Again, if you are working on your list and need more time please let me know because I will likely wait until you're finished. -What songs do you think will be most divisive (highest SD)? "The End of Heartache", "Photograph", "Only", "B.Y.O.B.", "Scars".
-What songs do you think we will agree about the most (lowest SD)? "Little Sister", at least two of the Audioslave songs, and something at the bottom, like "Killin' Me".
-Which of your bottom 10 will hang around the longest? If Active holds to Alt form, then my #99, without a doubt.
-Which of your top 10 will be eliminated first? I'm not sure. Maybe my #10 or #7. Hopefully not my #1, but it wouldn't shock me.
-How far do you think your #1 will go? Sadly, I'm thinking it'll go out in the 20's or 30's. I have much more faith in my #2 doing well than I do my #1.
-In the following groups, which song do you think will perform best?:
Audioslave: "Be Yourself", "Doesn't Remind Me", or "Your Time Has Come" "Doesn't Remind Me". Would be a bit of a swing from Alt, but I think the love for "Doesn't Remind Me" will show more in Active.
Black Label Society: "In This River" or "Suicide Messiah" Probably "In This River". Safer song. I hope both do well, though.
Chevelle: "The Clincher", "Panic Prone", or "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)" "Vitamin R", though I could see "The Clincher" being higher.
Crossfade: "Cold", "Colors", "So Far Away" "Cold", next.
Disturbed: "Guarded" or "Stricken" I'm thinking it will be "Stricken" because of familiarity. It should be "Guarded", though, and maybe some posters will be tired enough of "Stricken" to make that happen.
Green Day: "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Holiday", or "Wake Me Up When September Ends" "Boulevard" again.
Mötley Crüe: "If I Die Tomorrow" or "Sick Love Song" "If I Die Tomorrow", surely.
Nine Inch Nails: "Only" or "The Hand That Feeds" "The Hand That Feeds" again. Has a chance to win the whole thing.
Shinedown: "Burning Bright" or "Save Me" ...PROBABLY "Save Me", but I'm not 100% sure.
Slipknot: "Before I Forget" or "Vermilion" "Before I Forget". Bit of an "upset" pick, but I know quite a few people like that one more. I think it could be more divisive than "Vermilion", though...
System of a Down: "B.Y.O.B." or "Question!" "Question!" again.

Working on my list right now as well.
Just wanted to say that "Rain" is so melodramatic that it becomes hilarious to listen to. That'll probably make it out of the bottom 10 on band name alone, but I hope it doesn't.

While it's still not very high, I put "Stricken" higher than in my 06 list since it grew on me. I might do the survey later.

-What songs do you think will be most divisive (highest SD)?Probably my top 10 songs? Me against all of you. -What songs do you think we will agree about the most (lowest SD)?The ones I put in the 60's -70's range.-Which of your bottom 10 will hang around the longest? The scariest ones. -Which of your top 10 will be eliminated first?the ones you can "air guitar" and scream along to.-How far do you think your #1 will go?without dm2081 in my corner, not very far? -In the following groups, which song do you think will perform best?: Audioslave: "Be Yourself", "Doesn't Remind Me", or "Your Time Has Come" Black Label Society: "In This River" or "Suicide Messiah"Chevelle: "The Clincher", "Panic Prone", or "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)" Not as polarizing Crossfade: "Cold", "Colors", "So Far Away" With this peculiar bunch, they probably fall 3 in a row? Disturbed: "Guarded" or "Stricken"Green Day: "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Holiday", or "Wake Me Up When September Ends" Mötley Crüe: "If I Die Tomorrow" or "Sick Love Song" The other one is probably too scary for most of you? Nine Inch Nails: "Only" or "The Hand That Feeds"Both have 0% Active rock vibe.Shinedown: "Burning Bright" or "Save Me"Slipknot: "Before I Forget" or "Vermilion" System of a Down: "B.Y.O.B." or "Question!"No question about it.

It's FINALLY time to get this show on the road!!!
So what unfortunate song is the one to find itself at #100? The song at #100 ended up having the 4th lowest standard deviation. It is the first of 5 songs to never make it out of the bottom 10. This song battled for #99 down the closing stretch but wound up 50 points short. 3 lucky posters will earn a P-P-P-Perfect Ranking here as they lose their #100.

Static-X earn their second #100 finish in a row. I wasn't as attached to this song as I was with the other two songs we ranked by them, hence my lower ranking. 100

In the meantime here are some pre-rankdown survey questions. You don't have to answer all of them if you don't want to: -What songs do you think will be most divisive (highest SD)? Killswitch Engage as usual, along with Hollow, BYOB, The Widow, Shine It All Around, Beverly Hills, Cold, Home, E-Pro, No Surprise
-What songs do you think we will agree about the most (lowest SD)? Killin' Me, Best of You
-Which of your bottom 10 will hang around the longest? My 91 or 93
-Which of your top 10 will be eliminated first? My 2 or 9
-How far do you think your #1 will go? Top 10
-In the following groups, which song do you think will perform best?: Audioslave: "Be Yourself", "Doesn't Remind Me", or "Your Time Has Come" Black Label Society: "In This River" or "Suicide Messiah" Chevelle: "The Clincher", "Panic Prone", or "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)" Crossfade: "Cold", "Colors", "So Far Away" Disturbed: "Guarded" or "Stricken" Green Day: "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Holiday", or "Wake Me Up When September Ends" Mötley Crüe: "If I Die Tomorrow" or "Sick Love Song" Nine Inch Nails: "Only" or "The Hand That Feeds" Shinedown: "Burning Bright" or "Save Me" Slipknot: "Before I Forget" or "Vermilion" System of a Down: "B.Y.O.B." or "Question!"
As for other songs, I think Saliva can surprise a bit here. It likely won't do that well, but I believe it has a chance of escaping this first set of reveals. Static-X will disappoint as usual. (I'm betting it's #100)
EDIT: Bingo at X being #100

Finishing at #99 is the song with the 5th lowest standard deviation. This is another one of the 5 songs that never escaped the bottom 10. In fact, it never even broke out of the bottom 5. 3 more posters earn a PR with this reveal. One poster gets the pleasure of seeing their #100 bite the dust.

The best part about this Drowning Pool song? The cover art of the album it's on. And that's not even mentioning the edited version of the cover.
