LOL @ So Emotional stans pushing it into the top 5. The best thing about that song is the weird, narcoleptic intro and the Michael Jackson "hee-hee".

IYBT Is Whitney's best music video. Fight me. The parent album probably has the best music videos of her career, tbh.

Whitney SpotlightMy choice for the biggest missed single opportunity is "Love Is a Contact Sport." IMHO, once she got the Olympics song with "One Moment in Time," that and LIACS should've been a double-A side to capitalize on the sports promo and there should've been a video for each song. I believe it would've been a sure-fire #1 single, effectively extending her total to 13 #1 songs. Also, the song kicks ass and I've always enjoyed it more than "Love Will Save The Day." That would have been a good idea (I like both LIACS and LWSTD). But you already mentioned that she was criticized for singles from her second album lacking soul so that may have contributed to the desire to move on quickly to IYBT. Attachment Deleted

Prequel for #3What are you predictions for the order of the top 3? Will "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" dance to the top? Will the fierce attitude of "It's Not Right..." be a dark horse candidate? Will arguably the best vocal performance on record take the cake? Whitney SpotlightMy choice for the biggest missed single opportunity is "Love Is a Contact Sport." IMHO, once she got the Olympics song with "One Moment in Time," that and LIACS should've been a double-A side to capitalize on the sports promo and there should've been a video for each song. I believe it would've been a sure-fire #1 single, effectively extending her total to 13 #1 songs. Also, the song kicks ass and I've always enjoyed it more than "Love Will Save The Day." This brings back such memories...I was 9 or 10 when the album was out, and I remember liking this song in particular, and bopping to it in the back seat of my mom's station wagon lol... Anyway my prediction is: 3. It's Not Right 2. I Will Always Love You 1. I Wanna Dance With Somebody

#3: I Will Always Love YouStatsPoints: 296 Average: 9.87 Std Dev: 9.662 Charts US 1 US R&B 1 Canada 1 Europe 1 UK 1 Japan 5 Australia 1 New Zealand 1 History & Tidbits Originally a #1 country hit by Dolly Parton, Whitney's version is now the one everyone 'round the world knows but it almost didn't happen. Whitney was originally going to record "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" by Jimmy Ruffin for The Bodyguard but the idea was scrapped when the song was used for the film Fried Green Tomatoes. Kevin Costner then suggested this in its place. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia with additional details: "Producer David Foster re-arranged the song as a soul ballad. Her record company did not feel a song with an a cappella introduction would be as successful; however, Houston and Costner insisted on retaining it. When Parton heard that Houston was using Ronstadt's recording as a template, she called Foster to give him the final verse, which was missing from the Ronstadt recording, as she felt it was important to the song." From <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Will_Always_Love_You#Whitney_Houston_version> Whitney's rough vocal take on the song was so good that Whitney, Clive, and David Foster decided that it had to be used with no further recording or polishing. The song went on to be a massive #1 success in every Western country with a singles chart (except #2 in Finland) and even hit #5 on the main Oricon chart in Japan, not just the chart for international artists. This solidified Whitney's place as a household name and global force to be reckoned with. I still enjoy Whitney's rendition, but I'm partial to Dolly Parton's original for probably obvious reasons so this hurt the song in the context of her catalog for this and the middle is where it landed. Rooting for the uptempo jam to end all uptempo jams, "I Wanna Dance with Somebody"!

IWALY was #1 on my birth week so it holds a special place in my heart and that’s all I have left to say about this top three!

Timeless, flawless ballad (but still not top-3 worthy IMO).

The fact that ALL THE MAN THAT I NEED and I HAVE NOTHING didn’t make the top 5 has me speechless. Both are flawless! Better than IWALY.
However, I’m please that IYBT and SO made the top 5. Not surprised at IWALY’s ranking.

It's time to end this rankdown. Two iconic uptempos are separated by only one point....

Expecting IWDWS but I'd be cool with an INRBIO upset.

I'm sort of surprised It's Not Right" made it to top two. I think I ranked it in my top 10 but not that high...but then again it's a total gay anthem.

I'm glad that the over played IWALY is not gonna win. I love both 'Dance' and 'Okay' - but I have a more personal connection with the Thunderpuss remix of the latter, so plleeaasseee gay gawds, "It's Not Right But It's Okay" for the upset!

SHOCKED that It's Not Right outlasted some of her iconic, timeless songs, but hey, this is Pulse and Trump's America! The song is a jam though. I had actually forgotten how much I liked it and Heartbreak Hotel until the other week.

Awesome rankdown, bat1990! I thought It's Not Right would be a dark horse in this rankdown, and figured it held #1 along the way, but never thought it'd actually make it to #1. Cheers to Whitney for making such an iconic song several years into her career. And shame on half of the pop radio stations that never jumped on board with either version, and stalled this song before it hit top 20.

I honesty didn't see this coming at all and never would've thought that "It's Not Right, But It's Ok" would win this rankdown. I always knew it was a gay anthem and I've jammed out to it a time or two at the gay bars myself, but IMO it's always been "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" that brings the dance floor alive each and every time it comes on. Thanks for all of your hosting duties bat1990!

Thanks 4 rankdown It was fun! Overall I am ok with top 10. Thought top 2 is ... I do like It's not right. Did not know it is gay anthem
I wanna dance is probably the only single by her I can not stand. I guess my rank influenced the winner ;)
Looking forward to Toni one My #1's for single & album are 100% like no one else's, so... It will be interesting.
ALL THE MAN THAT I NEED is THE WHITNEY SONG!
Et toq!
