Drake is definitely like every Scorpion I know. Petty, sensitive and full of themselves this is why I like him and hate him all at the same time. It's in the sign. I'm a Scorpion Suddenly our relationship makes sense.

As a Scorpio, I’m feeling some type of way about this discussion. 😤

As massive as he is, I'm kind of shocked he can't crack the Taylor threshold.

This release will definitely go down as a benchmark to when the industry changed from sales to streaming fully. This is literally a preview.
In the next years every artist will start doing significantly less sales first week even if they get bigger unless they're debuting in the streaming era. Why? Because for this entire decade pure sales have been frontloaded and are shown almost entirely in the first weeks.
Streaming takes months and months, and adds back longevity to albums again. Consumers listen to an album over weeks, months, and years so the consumption isn't a fully developed picture in 1 week. Streaming is nowhere near the point of where albums can do 1 million in a week off of it. I'm not sure it'll ever get to that point, but if it does it won't be for years.
If Adele doesn't top this first week, then nobody else is topping it for the next few years atleast. People will always look back to 'well remember when everyone critiqued Drake's first week, but that was the benchmark for what was to come'.
The charts are going to moreso look like the 90s where hit albums play out over weeks, not a single week. Diamond albums were commonly albums that only did 100-200k first week, instead of digital era where the top-sellers usually always had goliath openings too.

This album is really too long and boring. Okay What was the point of this? Just stating my opinion on this album. It's boring, too long and one of the worst albums I've heard all year. Way more on topic than other posters talking about being a Scorpio. Good for his streaming numbers, tho. SLAY!

It's more of a case of artists status than the way how it's consumed.

It's more of a case of artists status than the way how it's consumed. Well yeah that's definitely true, but moreso my point was there's a different standard for what is considered a huge opening now. People were expecting him to do like 800K sales and 1.5m with SPS, when that just isn't going to be happening anymore. The sales market is completely deteriorated. Streaming isn't big enough right now or in a foreseeable future to make albums do 1m+ on it alone in a week. Moreso 300K, 400K, 500K is very huge on streaming and that'll moreso likely lead to huge numbers overall. When it's a long time before anybody does this number (besides Adele) I think people will realize the expectations for Scorpion's first week were just unrealistic for what the industry became. Views was during a transitional period where album sales still made a majority of consumption, but also streaming was becoming very relevant allowing for it to get both big sales and big streams. Similar with Bieber's Purpose a few months earlier; it did 522K sales & 649K SPS first week. If he released an album now with the same relevance and as big hits it'd probably do like 200K sales & 450-500K SPS (375-450 million streams~). That would be a humongous stream amount matching Beerbong & Bentley's, yet the overall SPS number would still be lower because streams just don't post the same huge numbers in a single week that pure sales do.

Yeah, BUT It's too early to say if Scorpion of all albums is an example of this as it's dropping harder per cent wise on a daily basis than B&B for example did. Scorpion might very well end up being Drake's least successful album even on SPS (Views has spent over 100 weeks on chart and still constantly streaming well)
Edit: Debuts at #1 in the UK with 63k

And I just checked my accounts, turns out I'm rich, I'm rich, I'm richBig Bank: What Drake Could Rake as a Free Agent on the Open MarketExpect another record-setter from the Canadian rapper, possibly to the tune of $20 million per album. Not going to copy and paste the whole article but the 3 options are: signing an exclusive deal with a streaming service (which for Drake would almost surely be Apple); inking a new deal with a label (on a major he could command a 15-20 million advance per album, a sum that only Whitney and Bruce Springsteen have ever been able to pull - he could also go indie); or signing to a touring package a la Madonna and Jay-Z's Live Nation deals (which for a touring-heavy act is the least risky proposition, but LiveNation has shown itself to be weak when it comes to distributing and promoting the music itself). All options have their pros and cons but either way he is getting paid.

HDD is projecting 310-325K second week! Views did 313K second week.
Remember my post last week? On people quick to talk about first weeks when the streaming era diminished that. Haha

I feel like Drake’s songs like Best I Ever Had and Find Your Love are technically his biggest hits due to them having only sales and radio at the time (Best i ever had could’ve been #1 if it weren’t for the BEP blocking like 15 songs at the same time from reaching #1 lol)
