7. Waiting for Tonight (27): This was a top 10 in my personal chart --and in my Latin chart (Una Noche Mas)-- but it's actually never been a huge favorite or smash, like If You Had My Love, or even a big hit (ie top 5) like Let's Get Loud. I mean, I do like it, especially the percussion that gives it a bit of a Latin a flare (as opposed to that original version that, gladly, I had never heard and didn't know existed ). I assumed this was gonna be a top 10 candidate after seeing how well this performed in the JLo RD. As I said before, I never fully understood how this is so adored here as this became the highest ranked Dance hit in this RD. I liked Music, It Feels So Good, Better Off Alone, and Desert Rose(*) more than this one. (*) Yeah, the Victor Calderone remix is the version that reached the top on my personal chart) 6. Otherside (2): NOOOO!!!! Arghh!! I really liked this song. It was a 2-week personal chart-topper, and I still listen to it with similar love. I especially like the fact that, even though it's a rock song, there are several vocal harmonies throughout the song. The bridge and the music right after the bridge elevate the song even further. So whoever said this stuff is just like any other type of rock song is WRONG. Lol 5. The Real Slim Shady (29): Yeah, LEAVE! Lol. I mean, it's the lowest left in my RD. I did like it back in the day, as it was really fun and quirky. I still smile when I listen to it--but specially when I watch that awesome video. Another sort of guilty pleasure -but top 5? Naahhh, but I'm not that mad... 4. Say My Name (16): This is my second favorite DC song ever, after IW. This was different, fun, smooth, and grabbed my attention since I first heard it. This one I don't mind seeing top 5 at all :) 3. Bye Bye Bye (3): YAY!! P-P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!!! Although in this case, I wanted it to be in the top 2 (instead of my #21). A classic pop song that's 'N Sync at their best. Another personal chart-topper and a song that despite its 90s association, still sounds good. I was concerned that it wouldn't make it to top 5, so I'm happily surprised at its position in this RD! 2. Smooth (1): :'( Oh well, this one has won many other RDs, so I guess it was about time to lose one Still, this is such a good song that combines Latin, rock, great vocals, guitars, percussion. Quite a unique song, and a great representative of the Latin crossover explosion, as Carlos Santana and his band have produced such iconic music. 1. Try Again (21): Oh well, I guess it's a good win for an underdog. I mean, I do like the song, as it was a runner-up in my personal chart. The beat, the vibe, her smooth -albeit limited- vocals... but I wish it had some more dynamic, as it gets a bit monotone to me after a while. I do get that this was a good rep of Timbaland and that R&B music, so kudos for that. Thanks aero for doing a great job at hosting, and providing some extra info. Really enjoyed this!

I can accept 'Smooth' being #2 since it already won a game, but hot DAMN am I happy to see Aaliyah take this thing out! 'Try Again' is a timeless bop, 18 years later it's still fresh af.

Waiting for tonight is probably my favourite JLo song, I'm happy that it's in the top 10. Same with Bye bye bye, even though I ranked it outside of my top 50, it is probably the best NSync single. So I'm okay with it reaching the top 5. Happy for Aaliyah though. I love Smooth to pieces, but I think I'm a bit tired hearing it lol. Try Again on the other hand, still sounds very fresh, which is probably why I ranked it higher.
Anyways, thanks Aero! Although I was struggling with this RD, I'm glad I decided to participate. It was fun!

7. Waiting for Tonight - Jennifer LopezNow this is a great Dnace oriented dance song. So how many hard rock fans, here own this CD, besides me? ;) 6. Otherside - Red Hot Chili PeppersNot even Popcharts could deny the awesomeness of rock in the 2000s. I really wish this had been top 3, but it says a lot that it made the top 10 here. 5. The Real Slim Shady - EminemNot happy this ended up higher than many of the epic rock songs on this list, bit at least it didn't win. let's see, Terrible vocals, horrid music, oh yeah, and to me, Eminem is a travesty to the music world. That should just about explain my ranking of #98? My work is done here. :kii: 4. Say My Name - Destiny's ChildLOL! I didn't even tank this, but still appear at the bottom of the list. 3. Bye Bye Bye - 'N SyncGreat song. Boy Band's Rock. 2. Smooth - Santana f/ Rob ThomasThis is a great song, but I still like every Matchbox 20 song better. 1. Try Again - AaliyahI didn't even remeber the song, but I have all Jet Li's movies in my DVD collection.

This rankdown has been downright comical. @ s**tty rock songs outlasting classics and at Dr Indie's weird commentary. I've kinda enjoyed reading the last 20 pages or so tho! which out of my 12,204 posts was it? :kii:

Good job aerodynamite . These rankdowns are cool to do. If anything it gets me to listen to songs I never again heard on the radio. Some, I remember why I love and some were just travesties, but all in good fun.

in the last year eminem went from one of my favourite artists to a big fat M E H, but The Real Slim Shady is one of a few songs by him I still love so I'm kinda upset that didn't win. Try Again and Smooth are a great top 20 though.
also lol Crap we had the same 1 & 2

Given that 2000 was such a big year for Latin crossovers, I think it'll be fun to share some personal Latin chart-toppers:
- "Si Te Vas" (Shakira): This was an album track from Donde Estan Los Ladrones, but it was released as the second single from Shakira's MTV Unplugged album (after a fun, different Mariachi version of No Creo). This was a great representative of pre-crossover rocker Shakira, and one of my top 10s of the year.
- "Amores Perros" (Control Machete featuring Ely Guerra): This was the main song of the internationally acclaimed movie Amores Perros, and allowed an unusual but quite effective collaboration between Latin hip-hop group Control Machete and alternative artist Ely Guerra. Love her voice!
- "De Creer En Ti" (Jaci Velasquez): And speaking of female voices I liked, Jaci made a big impact in Latin America with her first two inspirational singles. This also had an English version (On My Knees). Really liked vocals and lyrics of this song.
- "La Vida Es" (Nek): Back in 1997, Italian singer Nek scored a big hit back home and in Latin America with Laura No Esta, showcasing his powerful Sting-like voice. The first single of his 1999-2000 project was another hit, both in its original version and its Eiffel 65 (yup, the Blue ones) remix:
- "Fuego En El Fuego" (Eros Ramazotti): Speaking of Italians, of course there was no bigger Italian male singer in the 1990s than Eros. For the lead single of this project, he veered into Latin rather than Pop sounds and managed a big hit in Latin America, and one of my favorites from him.
- "Amar Es Un Placer" (Luis Miguel): Now if we talk about male singers from the Americas, Luis Miguel has been one of the most important ones since the early 1980s when he was just a kid. He singlehandedly brought back Boleros in mainstream music throughout the 1990s, although he also managed to release a couple of more traditional Pop/AC albums, including the 1999 Amar Es Un Placer. The title track was my favorite of the album, with a simple, subdued instrumentation that aims to highlight Luis' vocals and the romantic (some would say cheesy, though) lyrics
- "Yo Te Amo" (Chayanne): Another important male singer since the 1980s would also be Chayanne, who first appeared in a boyband Los Chamos, then achieved big success as a solo and even tried to cross over into the English market in 1990 without success. I've always thought that he had a lot of potential to be a crossover star, as he mixed ballads and all-out Latin dance music with great dance moves. This song was a typical Latin ballad, and a big hit back home (although maybe a bit too saccharine for many)
- "Regreso a Casa" (Moenia): Electro-pop artists were almost non existent or non popular in Latin music... Moenia was one of the exceptions, with popularity and high quality on its side, especially with the singles from Adicion+ like this one:
- "Yo Te Quiero Dar": This was pure murga (Argentinean music) and Latin fun! This became a quick hit, and its popularity continued growing as it became a staple for football (or soccer for people in the US) fans that cheered their teams with this tune.
- "La Bomba": Guilty pleasure alert!! Many would turn the radio off once they heard this song... but would still dance to it at all parties :) This was inescapable! And everyone would do the steps, with one hand on the head, a sexy move, one hand on the hip, a sexy move, and then everyone going down and going up sensually lol. I was happy to see a fellow Bolivian group made it big internationally with this song.

Those were all big hits on my side of the border. You're Mexican?! Maybe that explains why you refer to Destiny's Child as Kelly Rowland's group and say things like Eminem has a bad voice! I didn't mean to make fun of an ESL poster, my bad!

i think i underranked Try Again at 14...should've been in my Top 10...deserving winner...nice to see good R&B do well (considering there has been a lack of good R&B since the days of Stevie Wonder & Marvin Gaye)

Those were all big hits on my side of the border. You're Mexican?! Maybe that explains why you refer to Destiny's Child as Kelly Rowland's group and say things like Eminem has a bad voice! I didn't mean to make fun of an ESL poster, my bad! LOL! Beyonce does little for me, but I remember Kelly starred in Freddy V.s. Jason. She's made a bigger impresssion on me. ;)

My 5 closest: 1. Zac 2. fmbf101 3. Chartfanatic (wasn't surprised about this, as we had a lot of similarities in our ranks from what I noticed) 4. mamooshka 5. Trilogy
My 5 furthest: 5. craziaskowboi 4. lyhom 3. Samosaurus 2. Disco 1. Jtd (not a surprise considering a lot of songs I hate he had high)

I didn't mean to make fun of an ESL poster, my bad! As a German I can understand him. Beyonce had more top 10 hits in Germany but Kelly had the real big hits here. Dilemma and When Love Takes Over were bigger than everything Beyonce ever released. Her only #1 here is Beautiful Liar. Single Ladies didn't even made the chart.
