80. We return to seeing songs that are less polarizing, with only two top 40s gone and four bottom 20s as well. Most of us had a tendency to put it in the middle, which actually sounds about right for a song like this. Despite making the top three in early '93, this doesn't seem like a song that most people itch to talk about sadly. I liked it a bunch at first, but it has gotten a tad stale imo.

In all seriousness, though, recall that I only have one bottom ten remaining, which is also a bottom five. At #78, my bottom ten will officially be gone!

78. Garth Brooks - Learning to Live AgainBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 2 Billboard Hot Country Songs of 1993: 46 Total Points: 991 Average Rank: 66.0666667 Standard Deviation: 36.59325985 ( 6th highest!) someguy - 11 kw9461 - 12 CoJoFan - 13 bboat11 - 32 rgreen0625 - 39 tim - 59 austin - 61 Glove Slap - 79 Kanenrá:ke - 81 sabre14 - 87 castleoblivion26 - 95 George Strait Junkie - 96 .indulgecountry - 108 Cody Wants Out... - 109 LBTrocks - 109 *Can't find official audio anywhere (go figure )
Okay. So I'll admit that I'm not familiar with every single Garth Brooks song out there, and I don't think I need to be actually. This was one of those songs that I wasn't familiar with prior to this rankdown, and I honestly wasn't that impressed upon first listen. Chances are, had I let it grow on me a bit, this probably still would've been in my bottom 20 since I keep forgetting how it goes. The narrator of this song forgets the woman's name, hence the mega-smash from Rihanna in the early 2010s. We also encounter the first song in this rankdown to have at least three top 15s, which were mostly near top-10s. Two other top 40s and five bottom twenties (including three bottom fives) go with it.

"Learning To Live Again" is one I have always loved. The story about the main character trying to move on with his life is so well done here. I love the way the events of the song unfold, and the way the story is told. Plus Garth really sold the performance in a way that he doesn't always manage to do on a more subdued song like this.
Funny story though, I was absolutely shocked when I saw it on the playlist for this rankdown! I had never heard it on the radio or anything; I heard it for the first time when I bought his Ultimate Hits album in like 2007! So I always assumed it was a newer song from the early 2000s kinda like "More Than A Memory", or maybe even a new recording for the Ultimate Hits album. It doesn't sound out of place on a playlist from the mid-00s, like just about anything else from 1993 would. So I was all kinds of shooketh when I realized through this rankdown that the song was actually as old as me!

"Learning To Live Again" is a great song. I love the story that it tells, and I agree that its production isn't dated at all. Garth's early to mid 90s material is fantastic.

Nobody? Okay then... 77. Alabama - Hometown HoneymoonBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 3 Billboard Hot Country Songs of 1993: 36 Total Points: 982 (tied with #76) Average Rank: 65.4666666667 Standard Deviation: 24.07686105 someguy - 24 Glove Slap - 34 CoJoFan - 35 LBTrocks - 43 George Strait Junkie - 56 rgreen0625 - 58 sabre14 - 58 kw9461 - 69 tim - 73 bboat11 - 77 .indulgecountry - 77 Cody Wants Out... - 89 austin - 93 Kanenrá:ke - 96 castleoblivion26 - 100 Dancing to the rhythm of loveWe are now back to seeing a song with no top 20 ranks, but bunches of middling ranks helped this one stay in the upper part of the bottom 40 for the most part. Three people lose a top 40, while three others lose a bottom 20. Speaking of flip-flopping, I've been flip-flopping in regards as to how to feel about this one. It's not bad by any means, but I don't think it's one of my go-to Alabama songs unfortunately. I guess me liking it depends on the mood I'm in?

And...with two near-top 20s and an actual top 20, the winner of this tie is... 76. Aaron Tippin - My Blue AngelBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 7 Total Points: 982 (tied with #77) Average Rank: 65.466666667 Standard Deviation: 31.1926426 LBTrocks - 20 tim - 21 Kanenrá:ke - 22 rgreen0625 - 32 CoJoFan - 34 castleoblivion26 - 64 bboat11 - 70 sabre14 - 71 George Strait Junkie - 82 Glove Slap - 86 kw9461 - 90 .indulgecountry - 91 Cody Wants Out... - 93 someguy - 103 austin - 103
Now it's LBTrocks's turn to lose a top 20! The final single from Read Between the Lines, Aaron Tippin's sophomore album, leave the rankdown at this point. I think I remember bits and pieces of this from my childhood, but when listening to this again, I wasn't that impressed with it even after repeated listens. I may have had this a little bit higher, but I found songs I loved more than this, which is why I have another bottom 20 here.

I love Aaron Tippin! That's a great song. I'm glad it made it as far as it is, and that I made it as far as I did before I lost a top 20 lol!

Alright, I'll try to get to the top 70 tonight, but first, I wanna tell you a few things:
(1) A very, very important rankdown host will lose not only one, but TWO top 10s before the top 70. (2) One of those aforementioned top 10s will also bring us the very. first. #1 loss. of the game. (3) Not only one woman, but WOMEN will be involved in these losses. (4) A clue for one of these songs is posted below (and will also be featured in the '94 Country RD coming later this year!):

"Learning To Live Again" is a great song. I love the story that it tells, and I agree that its production isn't dated at all. Garth's early to mid 90s material is fantastic. Agreed on all fronts. I love the way the narrative builds and how you can hear the anxiety in Garth's delivery. Narrative songs were always his strong suit and this one is one of his best. I hate to see this out so early, but part of this is Garth's fault though for his ridiculous stubbornness/arrogance against streaming/iTunes. I knew of this song, but hadn't heard it for years until I bought Ultimate Hits. I don't think Garth fully understands how many younger fans he's cost himself by not making his lesser known hits more readily available.

Let's go ahead and get one of these out of the way! 75. John Michael Montgomery - I Love The Way You Love MeBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 Billboard Hot Country Songs of 1993: 9 Total Points: 980 Average Rank: 65.3333333333 Standard Deviation: 32.64236219 bboat11 - 9 rgreen0625 - 17 austin - 22 CoJoFan - 40 someguy - 49 George Strait Junkie - 62 castleoblivion26 - 62 Cody Wants Out... - 75 tim - 75 Glove Slap - 75 LBTrocks - 76 .indulgecountry - 98 kw9461 - 104 Kanenrá:ke - 107 sabre14 - 109
TBH, I was tempted to use a bottle of syrup as a clue for this song. :kii: bboat11 loses his first top ten here and three others lose a top 40, including a top 20 and a near top 20. Four bottom 20s also leave us at this point, with most of them being bottom tens. Yeah...this is kinda sappy...and radio might have a slight obsession with it (plus a few others).

Hal Ketchum deserved better, Aaron Tippin deserved better. Even John Michael Montgomery deserved a little better (okay not a whole lot better but in the Top 70 at least lol).
"Sure Love" is a great song, and "My Blue Angel" is also. Aaron Tippin was my first concert and I remember him singing that, it is great!

JMM is sooo hit and miss with me. This one is a big miss as it's way too sappy for me. However he does have a lot I like too. I actually own all his albums too so he did something right to catch my attention!
"My Blue Angel" was robbed plain and simple. Y'all are dead to me lol

I have horrific nightmares about being a little kid and hearing the drivel that is “I Love The Way You Love Me” over and over and over again. Thank heavens it’s gone.

Meet another artist who's music is NOT on Spotify: the lead singer of one of my favorite country groups: Restless Heart.Yes, I'm promoting my personal rankdown; it needs more lists ya know?Someone else loses another top 20 here and four others lose a top 40, me included. And yes, this was top 20 at one point. This was one of my favorite discoveries for this rankdown. What gives you guys? Is the song really not that good or what? I don't get the hate for it.

I have all of Larry's solo albums and they're all strong sets. This one deserved better, I was hoping for more since it's his only hit and only time he'll be in a rankdown most likely.

I can understand the hate for JMM usually...but his big hits are big hits for a reason! "I Love The Way You Love Me" is one of the best country love ballads of all time. Fight me.

I didn't think my #1 would be coming THIS early, but I am also not so sure that I am confident in its ability to stay now that the seeds of doubt have been sown... :'( Unless this means that it will be my second top 10 loss, but somebody else ranked it at #1! Will vague phrasing save my arse???

George has literally never recorded ANYTHING that is worthy of placing in the bottom half of a rankdown.
